Path of Exile Item Upgrades

Item upgrades are a common and important way to improve the performance of numerous items in Path of Exile. They can cause additional damage, AD or even affixes.

Rare-grade equipment can be superior to upgraded Common or Magic gear due to their higher requirements.

Armor

Armor upgrades can be applied to both weapon and armor items. They improve the stats of whatever item upgrader mod they are connected to. Upgrades to armor can be found in the world of games and purchased from Blacksmiths on bonfires. They can also be salvaged using a specialist or higher salvage kit to recover upgrades from the items.

The amount of damage that an armored piece or weapon is able to absorb is dependent on the level of its upgrades. The upgrade of an armor piece to the highest upgrade level will increase its damage absorption. But, it's important to be aware that this upgrade will increase its weight, causing it to be heavier than it was before.

There are many different kinds of armor upgrade available in the game. Each one has a distinct effect. Certain upgrades give armor a greater amount of health points while others make it stronger and lighter. The kind of armor upgrade an item can receive will be identified by the name of the upgrade as shown in the table below.

A few upgrades are magical or a combination of technology and magic, which is shown by a "Magic" or "Hybrid" entry in the table below. Some upgrades also require charges in order to be used. These are identified as "Charges" entries in the table. The charges associated with these upgrades are updated daily or never expire, depending on the upgrade.

The cheapest method to upgrade armor is to use Iron Ore, which can be gathered by exploring the environment and looting small loot chests. Titanium is more costly, but can be found at the smelters of Orgrimmar and Stormwind City. Some upgrades, like the Reforge or the Hot Potato Books can only be applied to high-level armor pieces. These upgrades can give significant improvement in stats and are worth the cost, especially for single-handed weapons.

The player should be aware, however, that upgrading a piece to the maximum upgrade level can increase its defense values. However, it can also affect its agility and speed. It is not recommended to upgrade armor beyond +9. The defensive boost gained usually isn't worth the weight and power costs of the upgrades.

Weapons

Weapon upgrades allow players to enhance certain aspects of their weapon. Upgrades can improve the accuracy of a rifle, or the damage caused by shotgun shells. Some weapons also have special upgrades that enhance their inherent qualities. Frictionless materials (improves stability, reduces the risk of the possibility of overheating), and Kinetic coils (increases the projectile's speed to cause more damage) are two examples.

The majority of upgrades to weapons require the use of a whetblade, or one of the three Power Dices and a different amount of Minerals and Erons. These can be obtained by completing Side Quests or by killing a certain amount of monsters and bosses.

To upgrade an equipment set, weapon piece or Whetblade you need to visit the NPC [ArmorBoboko. Boboko located in Central Flarine, and pay her an upgrade fee that is a certain amount of Bars. The higher the upgrade level, the more bars required to complete it. The cost of the upgrades will be less if you have more than one of the upgrade materials.

In Chapter 2: Season 5, the ways to upgrade your weapon and equipment sets changed a little. Prior to Chapter 2 Season 5, you could upgrade your weapon and equipment by paying a specific number of Bars. You could continue doing this until you reached the max upgrade level of the equipment or weapon, following which the upgrades would reset.

This is still possible, but it relies heavily on RNG. Instead, you're much better off going to the stores and buying equipment that has low upgrade item levels but excellent base scores and stat distributions. These gears have a higher chance of granting you the highest tier blessings and perks.

The majority of players will prioritize upgrades to the weapons they are most likely to use to allow them to progress quicker. Players should also upgrade the weapons that their teammates utilize to increase their power. For instance, Shepard should consider upgrading the M92F to unlock the Beretta M93R to make it more useful when paired with biotech specialists such as Grunt and Tali.

Jewels

Jewels are utilized in the armor's sockets and weapons, increasing a stat and providing secondary effects. Jewelry crafting is a method of creating them. You combine a gemstone with a number specific reagents on a table. The higher the grade of the gemstone, the better the secondary effect. These reagents can be obtained around the world from Treasure Goblins, World Bosses and occasionally by salvaging Legendary gear. You can also purchase them from The Jeweler in exchange for Scattered Prisms and gold.

The Jeweler can enhance the quality of gemstones in stages ranging from Crude up to Royal. The stat boosts can vary according to the tier that the jewel is in when it is inserted into jewelry, weapons or equipment.

The Jeweler can craft all kinds of gems, with the exception of rare and legendary ones, which you must be at certain levels to gain. Jewels can be replaced with another one without damaging the original. You can only replace the gem once in an item of equipment.

Using more jewels in the movement will make it feel smoother, and is often performed for aesthetic reasons. In addition to improving performance, the jewels also create a surface that is harder than metal, so repeated friction with pivots doesn't damage them as easily.

In addition to the above-mentioned upgrades players can also obtain glyphs for their weapons and shields from a Glyphmaster. These provide a small bonus and can be swapped freely but aren't guaranteed to drop as loot. Glyphs can be upgraded, like jewelry, at the Jeweler for gold and Scattered Crystal. Glyphs may also be removed and returned to the inventory. Other upgrade components, like aegis and traits, are not swappable, and can only be recovered using an Upgrade Extractor or salvaging them using a Black Lion Salvage Kit or an Ascended Salvage Tool.

Trinkets

Trinkets can be used to give your character various small, but beneficial advantages. They are available in the starter area as rewards for personal stories or loot. They are also available from vendors as well as through completing road interaction. They can also be found on the Trading Post, or crafted by jewelers.

The first trinket players can unlock is the cloak. It gives a small, but useful bonus in movement speed and the ability to evade. The player will then be able to acquire necklaces, amulets, and rings in a similar fashion to how they acquired weapons and armor. Each piece of equipment comes with an upgrade slot which can be universal or jewel. Universal upgrades offer fewer benefits and can be placed in any type of equipment while jewelry cannot be replaced or upgraded, and is only compatible with certain types of trinkets.

These trinkets can also grant bonuses and abilities that are active whenever the hero is not fighting. This enables the hero to be more effective when not active and also helps to compensate for the absence of a strong team or the absence of any talent tree slots which would normally be filled with the hero's best statistics.

A good rule of thumb for trinket upgrades is to prioritize BiS (Best-in-Slot) items that you aren't planning to replace soon, followed by items with desirable stats but less important than the iLevel of the item level upgrade being upgraded. This is especially true if an item has multiple stats you'd like to upgrade, since it's generally better to upgrade just one important stat than two sub-optimal ones.

Jungle players usually upgrade their yellow trinket to a red trinket at the start of the game. Top and mid players, on the other hand they will select a pink or green ward, depending on the game's matchup. These choices will have a significant impact on the hero's ability to control his map.

In addition to the items mentioned above, players will also find other trinkets in the form of rewards and trophies throughout the game. These can be obtained by completing certain milestones in the story. For instance, completing the main quest for a chapter or defeating the boss. You can view them by clicking on the achievement in the reward section of the hero's menu.
