Upgrading a normal item will create an Exceptional item upgrade while upgrading an Exceptional item will result in an elite version of the base item. The best Item upgrader will retain the stats it had prior to upgrading, and will gain an extra bonus of its new base type. This bonus is randomly chosen. It could be a weapon that has a greater damage range, a faster speed of reloading, or an enhanced max defense roll.
The amount of extras gained by upgrading is contingent on the number of upgrades completed. Each upgrade boosts the extras in question by increments of 1, up to a maximum of 3. In addition, each upgrade items will also increase the stat that is used to determine the main one by 1.
Certain upgrades also give a secondary random boost in addition to stat enhancements. These boosts can be quite useful and should be taken into consideration when deciding on which items to upgrade. Costs
Upgrades are accompanied by a few associated costs. The first is the cost of performing the upgrade. It can also be expensive to upgrade an item level upgrade to a higher level (such as Explorer > Champion or Veteran > Heroic).
The second is the price of the items required to upgrade.
