1. Roomba Q5 pro
The Q5 Pro and its sibling, the pricier Q7 Max Series, are among the most powerful robot vacuum cleaners best vacuums we've test. They feature top-of-the-line motors that can pull up to 5,500 Pascals of suction force. Like other iRobots with premium features (including the most powerful model) they utilize smart mapping to produce precise floorplans that avoid obstacles such as cords and furniture legs. The robots also feature the feature of Carpet Boost that boosts its power when it detects dirt on the carpet.
Both the Q5 and Q7 Max Series get very good scores in our bare floor tests, and they're particularly adept at cleaning pet hair. However, they do have some flaws that prevent them from being our top choice. One of the Q5's shortcomings is that its navigation system doesn't include AI-powered obstacle avoidance. It's thus susceptible to get stuck on shoes and socks and could not navigate rooms with lots of people well in our tests. It also doesn't come with a camera to look around corners.
It's still a great option for those who want to save money on an Roomba from iRobot and have a mostly unfinished home or office. Additionally, it's quiet and can work while you're at work, or going to school. The only thing it doesn't have that you don't get in the pricier iRobot Roomba X30 is edge-to-edge vacuuming on floors that aren't clean. It's also less effective at mopping, relying on disposable wet wipes that don't stay on for long and don't handle dried-on debris. The Q5 has a self-emptying dock, though. If you're required to clean the mopping pad, it can be replaced with a wet one in just a few seconds.
2. IRobot Roomba
The iRobot Roomba X30 packs impressive mopping and vacuuming capabilities into a compact, sleek package. Its agile navigation and intelligent cleaning maps make it easy to clean and efficient at taking on larger particles, such as pet hair. It also features a self-emptying bin as well as powerful suction, and support for virtual boundaries. It's the best robot hoover for carpets, although it isn't as efficient as some of its competitors in deep cleaning.
This top-performing mop and vacuum combination utilizes advanced sensors to dodge obstacles and pet waste and it learns your home's layout over time to ensure more efficient cleaning. The app lets you customize zones and change the cleaning schedule. Its battery life is average in comparison to other models.
You can tell the X30 Ultra to remove its mops and to extend them when it's in a room with carpet which prevents cross-contamination. Its flex arm is also perfect to get under furniture with low levels and along baseboards. It doesn't perform as well on the washboard as our other Editors' Choice Picks, the Ecovacs Ozmo N8Pro+ and the iRobot Combo j9+.
During testing, X30 Ultra was the most efficient robot vacuum/mop which could complete the task of cleaning a whole home and had 66 percent of its battery remaining. It also did an excellent job of cleaning a mix of floors and rooms with mixed flooring types, including certain area carpets. Its obstacle detection was excellent and it stayed clear of fake dog turds, socks, shoes and bundles of cables.
It's more expensive than the iRobot Combo v9+ and iRobot Roomba j9+, however, it comes with superior suction, a dustbin on board that automatically empties into its base, and it supports voice commands through Amazon Alexa and Google Assistant. It can also clean the floor even after it has vacuumed. This is something we haven't seen on other robot vacuum/mop combination.
3. IRobot Roomba X40
With an elegant, circular design that looks more like a regular Roomba rather than the compact models this mop and robot vacuum is among the most appealing looking in our evaluations. The latest flagship model from iRobot is also the most intelligent. It has advanced features like Enhanced Dirt Detection as well as future compatibility (another company’s robot that can wash mop pads on its own).
It's the only robotic mop or vacuum to score an exemplary 10/10 in our testing due to a mix of high-tech sensors, which include cameras, a structured lighting system, and multiple lasers. The X40 Ultra was the only robot we tested that could refill and empty its basestation in a self-contained manner. It also boasted an industry-leading suction of 12,000Pa and self-cleaning mop mops.
As with other iRobot models, the X40 is user-friendly, offering an intuitive mobile app interface and integration with Amazon Alexa, Apple HomeKit and Google Assistant. The only real drawback is that it's still quite an eerily noisy device that could be an issue if you use it in the morning prior to work or at night as you attempt to sleep.
It's also a bit expensive however, not as much as the Ecovacs MaxV Ultra or the Roborock S8 Omni, which are equally capable and better looking. If you're willing with a bit more noise and some additional cost, this is a very efficient two-in-one device that should delight most.
4. iRobot Roomba L20 Ultra
The L20 Ultra is the top-of-the high-end robot vacuum and mop. It has a number of features that are advanced and will help you forget your chores. The L20 Ultra is a hands-free cleaning device, similar to Ecovacs' top-of-the-range X2 Omni or Roborock's S8 Pro Ultra. It comes with a multi-function dock that will automatically emptys the bin of the vacuum and fills up the water tank, and cleans and dry the mop pads.
The smart robot uses LIDAR and structured lighting to map out floor plans and detect obstacles. It can navigate more efficiently than its premium competitors. It also has a camera mounted on the front to detect hazards in real-time, although this wasn't quite reliable in our tests and was occasionally confused by power cords or other obstructions.
Its vacuum has a suction maximum of 7,000 Pascals which is more than enough to get the job done. It also comes with an attribute called "Intelligent Dirt Detection", which regulates the power of the vacuum and adjusts the frequency of cleaning for different areas of the home based on how dirty the areas tend to be.
For larger houses, it's worth opting for models that has zone or spot cleaning modes that allow you to tell the robot to clean one particular area of your home using the app or voice commands. If you have lots of furniture, a stair-mode is also a good option. For busy families, a recharge feature and resume feature that permits your robot vacuum to continue from where it left off can be extremely useful.
iRobot RX3
The RX3 is a cleaner with more intelligence than you'd expect from its price tag. It is a great job vacuuming, picking up 55% of the debris that was found in our tests (it was second only to the Roomba Q5 Pro). It also mops using a single pad and a reciprocating movement that is more efficient than most of the mop cleaners with robots that we've examined. It's also self-sufficient, with a fully-featured app as well as a self-emptying, washable base.
The iRobot app is designed to help you navigate the mapping process, which gathers information on your floorplan, as well as any "no go" areas that you have marked on the map. It can be used to design cleaning schedules or set up an automatic spot-clean. It can also be used to it to prioritize the most soiled areas for better performance. The app comes with a variety of features, such as seasonal suggestions, custom mapping and advanced cleaning settings.
Its shape is more rectangular than most other robot vacuums, meaning it can reach corners and underneath furniture more easily. It is equipped with an impressive 8000 Pascal suction, as well as sophisticated combs that remove pet hair. You can also organize a spot-cleaner that will thoroughly clean a specific area.
The Miele Scout RX3 Home Vision HD offers a sleeker more affordable alternative to iRobot Roomba. It is more appealing in its design, akin to Dolce & Gabbana. The twin cameras are designed to resemble adorable eyes. It's good at vacuuming, but is more prone to get caught on low thresholds and is a bit more noisy than the other top robotic hoovers vacuums we've tried. It also comes with an app that's less intuitive and a small base station that can't double as a bin to empty.
