Item Upgrading: It s Not As Expensive As You Think

Upgrades increase the value of certain numeric statistics on armor, weapons and rings. Upgrades also increase bonuses such as Crit chance and damage from PvE.

For instance, a weapon with the upgrade template that ends in % will suffer an attack damage of 3% each time it is upgraded (relative to its previous value).

The cost for upgrading items increases when they reach the item's current level. The cost increases as the item's level rises.

Components

Upgrade components can be added to weapons, armor and trinkets to give them a stat boost or an extra effect. They can be obtained by crafting, buying from vendors trading, or looting. Some upgrades also have specific cosmetic effects.

Upgrade components are only available to equipment with a slot. The item must be at least upgraded to a blue level before the component can be applied. Upgrade components, unlike other mods can only be applied only once. They are not able to be replaced or applied several times. Infusions and enrichments are a specific type of upgrade component used for non-amulet ascended and legendary equipment, as well as some of the non-ascended back items. Enrichments and Infusions can be obtained by salvaging ascended equipment or completing a quest in the Prophecies, Factions, and Nightfall campaigns.

An upgrade could be prefixed or a suffix, modifying the name of the equipment to which it is applied (for example "Canthan Armor Insignia' becomes Canthan Armor of Minor Vigor). Certain upgrades can increase the Mark Level or Rarity of an item, allowing players create stronger versions with fewer Upgrade crystals than they would require to reach the same level using normal methods.

A boost upgrade can alter the attack or defense attributes of the weapon or armor. These upgrades can be made from the Portative Forging Station once the player has completed the cutscene and defeats the Crazed Mechanical. They can also be dropped by enemies when upgrading other gear or buying them from the cash shop for 500 upgrade crystals.

Each upgrade increases the probability that a higher tier version of an item will be revealed in the next reset. This gives players an incentive to upgrade their gear, even in the event that they don't know how much it will be improved after the reset.

The process of upgrading an item could be expensive and it's possible that the item will eventually become obsolete, or even break, when the upgrade fails. Upgrade Crystals and assist powder are also destroyed when an upgrade fails. Cash shop items can be used to reduce or eliminate the risk of failure. Some upgrades also give the player a bonus if they are they are reinserted.

Glyphs

Glyphs can be used to enhance the Paragon Board by placing them in sockets with special functions. Glyphs increase the power of nodes within a radius, including any pre-existing attaches. Glyphs can be upgraded in numerous ways. We recommend upgrading them as fast as possible to level 15.

In the final game you'll often discover that the most effective way to upgrade your gear is by placing Glyphs. They are the only upgrade components that can be upgraded directly to level 15 and offer an enormous boost to your power and radius on the Paragon Board, enabling you to get higher nodes much faster.

Most of the upgrades in the game can be replaced, however, Glyphs are only the one upgrade component that can be removed and replaced without any restrictions. Only legendary equipment can be salvaged and replaced using a Black Lion Salvage Kit.

Each Glyph has a specific range of values can enhance a stat by. The value is shown when you select the Glyph in your inventory. You can replace it with a different Glyph of the same rank, or a higher rank, which will increase the value of the Glyph.

Certain upgrades require a certain ingredient to activate. This ingredient is obtained by making Upgrade Recipes. These recipes can be found in the upgrade tab of a crafting table, or bought from NPCs. Each Upgrade Recipe that is completed earns several Technology Points. These points can be used to leveling up an item. When enough points have been earned you'll be eligible to claim the upgrade and also receive the bonuses.

When an item is upgraded by a player, the base item is replaced by a new item of the same type. The same armor will receive a weapon or a shield when upgraded. The new item comes with its own set of bonuses. This could be a drawback, as it can cause the item to become more expensive, even if you don't need it.

Item upgrades can sometimes be rerolled, if the player has enough tokens to do so. This causes the item to be exchanged for a new one, with a level 1 base and a different set of bonuses. This can be beneficial but it shouldn't be done often as it could waste resources.

Certain upgrades can be rerolled several times to increase their value, giving players the ability to alter their equipment. Dolphin's Gift is a good example, since it grants a buff if the player continuously enters or exits water. It can be upgraded multiple times, each time raising the max roll by 10 points. This item can be very valuable in PvP, as a perfectly rolled version of it can be worth between 20 and 50x its value if it is not upgraded.

Requirements

The item upgrader allows players to raise the level of their equippable equipment (armor, weapons trinkets, and weapons) beyond ilvl385 by handing over the appropriate currency to the NPC. Upgrades to armor set pieces also increase the defense base of the piece, whereas upgrading weapon equipment will increase the base damage as well as the required strength and dexterity to match the requirements of the upgraded equipment.

All items can be upgraded up to five times, with the exception for hero equipment, which is able to be upgraded eight times. Each time you upgrade a piece of equipment, it has a chance of failing. The failure rate increases as you move beyond the maximum number. If an item isn't upgraded the experience bar in the bar for growth will be reset to zero. The item will also lose any bonuses it has gained like crit chance attack damage, other effects (such as increased heal over time or the speed of reloading). However, the player can continue to use the weapon or armor after the failure.

When an item is upgraded the upgrades are applied from lowest to highest. This means that, if a weapon gains an increase in the chance of crit the increase is applied prior to any increase in attack damage. A new attribute called Slots is now added to the definition of the item and the value is recomputed each time an upgrade is made.

The amount of resources needed to upgrade an item is determined on the rarity rating and the number of upgrade slots. The cost of upgrading non-premium equipment is equal to its base value. For instance an item that is commonplace could have five upgrades at a cost. 25,600 Technology Points and 4x Quality Improvement Chance--whereas hero quality items will have a much lower cost for each upgrade.

Premium items have different requirements for upgrading in comparison to standard equipment. For instance, they may require fewer sowels, but they will require more minerals and erons. The player will need to bring every piece of equipment they want to upgrade to NPC [Armor] Boboko located in Central Flarine. In addition to the upgrade items costs mentioned above, each equipment upgrade requires an individual amount of ingredients needed to upgrade.
