Upgrade components
Upgrade components can be incorporated into trinkets, weapons, armor and gathering tools, providing an attribute bonus or additional effect while the equipment is in use. They can be bought from vendors, gathered in loot, dropped by enemies or received as rewards from missions or chests. Some upgrades have additional cosmetic effects. Most upgrades require the equipment to be at a certain level before they are upgraded.
To upgrade an armor, weapon or other item in the game, the player will need to select it and then click the Upgrade button in the toolbar. This will show a preview on the right side of the screen showing what the expected upgrade statistics will be and also the necessary element or material required for the upgrade to take place.
There are three kinds of upgrade components: universal upgrades, prefix upgrades, and suffix upgrades. Universal upgrades, like gems, can be used on any kind of equipment. They offer a lower bonus than upgrade components that are subject to a type limitation. Infusions are only placed in ascended gear or legendary equipment are similar to jewels but provide larger bonuses and cannot be placed in any other type of equipment. Suffix upgrades are able to be placed in gathering tools, will add their name to the end of the name of the item they are connected to, for example adding an Glyph to an item upgrade that is a Staff Wrapping of Minor Vigor will transform it into a Canthan Staff Wrapping of Minor Vigor.
In the case of upgrades to gather tools, if a player replaces one glyph by another, the old glyph will be returned to the inventory. If you replace any other upgrade component the item will be destroyed, except for the inscriptions that can be swapped freely.
Leveling
Path of Exile's upgrade process differs from the previous versions in a few fundamental ways. Gear is now categorized in tracks and each item can be upgraded a certain number of times before it's "leveled out." The cost for upgrades is increased with each level however the materials required don't increase as much. This allows players to focus their efforts on a specific few items and maximize the effect of these items rather than spreading upgrade costs over multiple pieces.
Once an item has been leveled out, it will be capable of receiving a new set of upgrade components, and a boost in the chance that the upgrade will succeed. This bonus is known as Artisan’s Energy and it resets at 0 if the upgrade fails or increases when the upgrade succeeds.
Once a piece of gear is upgraded to its highest level it is able to gain affixes which will enhance its capabilities. The number of affixes available depends on the item's base type. For instance, an uncommon or unique weapon with a standard base will have only two affixes, while a legend armor will have eight affixes.
Each upgrade requires a certain number of Flightstones or Crests, depending on whether the item is at its current level and in what slot it is placed in. Typically, weapons will require more Flightstones to upgrade than other types of equipment.
If an item does not attain its maximum level, the NPC grants the player the choice to transfer it to a different character and then re-infuse it with a different set of upgrades. This process takes up to two hours and costs the same amount of materials however it will have a lower chance of success.
To measure the height of a structure, engineers will utilize a level to compare the measurement with an established reference point such as a benchmark or the elevation of the ground. This is referred to as a "level-loop." It involves taking readings using the level and backsight rod, then turning the level to make the foresight rod reading. This method makes sure that buildings are built to a high level of safety and accuracy.

Rerolling is the process of changing the upgrade components of an item. It is a crucial aspect of the game and can significantly enhance an item's strength or damage, as well as other characteristics. It is possible to do this through the item menu or by pressing the Reroll button every time you upgrade an item. Rerolling can be expensive and should only be performed in very rare instances.
Reroll tokens are derived by recycling upgraded items. These tokens can be used to upgrade either the original item or a comparable item upgrader. Recyclable items have a gauge that shows the amount of upgrade. The amount of level that has been filled is contingent on the rarity and upgrade cost of the item.
In the past, some upgrade items were affixed with priority that made them easier to roll for than other. This meant that you could be able to get the stats that were important most to your build often than other. This included stats such as the armor's total armour, thorns and diminished duration due to control or the weapons' bonus attack speed and crit strike chance.
This changed with the recent patch. Priority affixes were removed and all upgrades have the same chance of rolling each stat. This can be a great or bad thing depending on your requirements and expectations from your equipment.
Each upgraded item can also have a unique bonus that increases the power of the item by a specific percentage or flat value. These bonuses are added to normal affixes. The more you upgrade a product, the greater the chance of receiving an exclusive bonus.
The game also includes number sets that grant a bonus when three or four upgraded items from the set are installed on a unit. This is an excellent way to add a lot of power to a character without spending lots of money.
