Like other iRobots with premium features (including the top model), they use smart mapping to produce precise floor plans and eliminate household obstacles like cords and furniture legs. The robots also feature Carpet Boost, a feature that boosts its power when it senses dirt on the carpet.

The Q5 and Q7 Max Series both scored very well in our tests of floors with no carpet and are especially adept in cleaning hair from dogs. There are some issues, however, that prevent them from being our first option. For one, the Q5's navigation system does not have AI-powered obstacle avoidance, so it's prone to become entangled in socks and shoes and couldn't navigate tight spaces very efficiently in our tests. It also doesn't come with an image sensor that lets it see the corners of the room.

Still, it's very good, especially if you want to save money on a iRobot Roomba and you have a mostly unfinished home or office. It's also very quiet and works when you're at work or at school. It lacks the edge-to-edge bare floor vacuuming that is offered in the more expensive iRobot Roomba X30. It's also less effective in mopping, using disposable wet wipes that don't stay on very well and can't take on dried-on debris. The Q5 does have an auto-emptying dock, however. And, if you need to, you can swap the mopping pad to a dry one in just a few seconds.

2. IRobot Roomba X30

The iRobot Roomba X30 packs impressive mopping and vacuuming capabilities into an elegant, compact package. Its agile navigation and intelligent cleaning maps make it quick to clean and efficient in taking on larger particles, such as pet hair. It also has strong suction and a self-emptying bin. It's the best robotic automatic hoover for carpets but it falls behind some competitors in terms of deep cleaning.

This top-performing mop and vacuum combination makes use of advanced sensors to stay clear of obstacles and pet waste and it also learns the layout of your home over time for more efficient cleaning. The app allows you to set up zones and modify the cleaning schedule. Its battery life is average in comparison to similar models.

You can instruct the X30 Ultra to remove its mop and extend them when it's in a carpeted area to prevent cross-contamination. The flex arm can be used to reach under low-lying furnishings and along baseboards. It doesn't perform as well on the washboard as our other Editors' Choice Picks, the Ecovacs Ozmo N8Pro+ and the iRobot Combo j9+.

During tests, the X30 Ultra was the fastest robot vacuum/mop in the market to clean an entire house, finishing with 66 percent of its battery left. It did a good cleaning job on different flooring and rooms with different flooring types including some area rugs. Its obstacle detection was great and it stayed clear of fake dog turds, socks, shoes and bundles of cables.

It's more expensive than the iRobot Combo v9+ and iRobot Roomba j9+, however it offers superior suction, a built-in dust bin that automatically fills up its base, and also supports voice commands via Amazon Alexa and Google Assistant. It even cleans the floor after it vacuums it, something we've not seen on other robotic vacuum/mop combos.

3. Roomba X40 from iRobot

With an elegant circular design that looks more like a normal Roomba rather than the compact models, this mop and robot vacuum is among the most attractive looking models in our reviews. iRobot’s latest flagship model is also among its most advanced. It has advanced features, like enhanced dirt detection and future compatibility (another company's robot that can wash mop pads on its own).

It's also the sole robot vacuum/mop to score the perfect 10/10 out of 10 in our testing. This is thanks to the combination of high-tech sensors including a structured light system, camera, and a variety of lasers. The X40 Ultra was the only robot we tested that could fill and empty its basestation autonomously. It also boasted an industry-leading suction of 12,000Pa as well as self-cleaning mop mops.

The X40 is, like the other iRobot products, is easy to use. It has an easy mobile application interface, and it is compatible with Amazon Alexa and Apple HomeKit. The only drawback is that it's still quite loud which could be problematic if you run it in the morning prior to work or in the evening as you attempt to sleep.

It's also somewhat expensive, though it's not as pricey as the Ecovacs Omni or Roborock's S8 MaxV Ultra both of which are similarly capable and more attractive. It's a dual-purpose vacuum that's extremely powerful, but it's going to cost you more and make more noise.

4. iRobot Roomba L20 Ultra

The L20 Ultra is the top-of-the best Robot vacuum, mel-assessment.Com, and mop. It has a range of advanced features that will make you forget about your chores. The L20 Ultra is a hands-free cleaning device like Ecovacs' top-of-the-range X2 Omni or Roborock's S8 Pro Ultra. It has a multifunction dock which automatically emptys the vacuum's bin and fills up the water tank, and washes and dries mop pads.

The smart robot uses an array of LIDAR and structured light to map out the floor plan and detect obstacles, and navigates more effectively than its more expensive competitors. It also has a camera mounted on the front for real-time detection of hazards, although this wasn't quite reliable in our tests and was sometimes confused by power cords or other obstructions.

The vacuum has a suction maximum of 7,000 Pascals which is more than enough to finish the job. It also comes with a feature known as "Intelligent Dirt Detection", that regulates the vacuum's power and adjusts cleaning frequency for different areas in the home based on how dirty the areas are.

If you have a bigger home, you should consider selecting a robot vacuum cleaner reviews that comes with spot or zone cleaning mode. This allows you to tell the robot which area of your home must be cleaned with the help of an app or voice command. If you have furniture, a stairway mode is also useful. Also a recharge and resume feature that allows your robot vacuum to continue where it left off is ideal for busy families.

iRobot RX3

The RX3 is more intelligent than the price suggests. It is a good vacuum cleaner and was able to remove 55% of debris in our tests. (It was second to the Roomba Q5 Pro). It also mopses with one pad, which uses a reciprocating motion, which cleans better than most of the other robot mop cleaners we've tested. It's also highly self-sufficient, with a fully-featured application, and a self-emptying base that is washable.

The iRobot app is designed to help you navigate an exercise in mapping that collects data on your floorplan, as well as any "no go" areas that you've marked on the map. You can use it to make cleaning schedules, plan a spot clean or to sort out your rooms with the most dirt to ensure better performance. The app also grants access to a host of features, such as seasonal suggestions, custom maps and advanced settings for your cleaning.

It also has a less intuitive app and a small base station that doesn't double as a bin for emptying.
