With an elegant, circular design that looks more like a regular Roomba than the competition's boxy units this mop and robot vacuum is among the most attractive looking models in our evaluations. The newest model from iRobot happens to be its smartest and has advanced features like enhanced dirt detection technology and future compatibility with Matter (another company's robot that can autonomously wash mop pads).
It's the only robotic vacuum/mop to score 100% in our evaluations, thanks to a combination of high-tech sensors, including a camera, structured light system and multiple lasers. The X40 Ultra is also the only robot in our tests that can fully autonomously refill and empty its base station and boasts an the industry's highest suction of 12,000Pa and self-cleaning mop pads.
Like other iRobot models as well, the X40 is user-friendly, offering a simple mobile app interface and integration with Amazon Alexa, Apple HomeKit as well as Google Assistant. The only issue is that the X40 still a noisy unit. This could be a concern in the mornings before work, or in the evening when you are trying to fall asleep.
It's also a bit expensive however, not as expensive as the Ecovacs MaxV Ultra or the Roborock S8 Omni, which are equally powerful and more attractive. If you're willing to put up with a bit more noise and some additional cost this is a efficient two-in-one device that should satisfy most people.
iRobot L20 Ultra
The L20 Ultra is a top-of-the-range robot vacuum and mop, with many advanced features to help you forget about your chores. The L20 Ultra is a hands-free cleaning machine that is similar to Ecovacs the top of the line X2 Omni or Roborock's S8 Pro Ultra. It features a multi-functional dock that can automatically empty the vacuum's bin, refills the water tank, and washes and drys mop pads.
The smart robot uses LIDAR and structured lighting to map out floor plans and spot obstacles. It can navigate more efficiently than its top competitors. It also has a camera mounted on the front for real-time hazard detection, although this wasn't quite reliable in our tests and was occasionally confused by power cords or other obstructions.
Its vacuum mop cleaner robot has a high maximum suction of 7,000 Pascals which is more than enough to complete the task. It also comes with a feature known as "Intelligent Dirt Detection", that regulates the power of the auto vacuum and mop and adjusts the frequency of cleaning for different areas in the house based on how dirty those areas tend to be.
For larger houses it's recommended to choose models with spot or zone cleaning modes that allow you to instruct the robot to clean a particular area of your home by using the app or via voice commands. If you have furniture, a stairway mode is also a good option. Additionally the recharge and resume feature that allows your robot vacuum to pick up right where it left off is great for busy families.
iRobot RX3
The RX3 is more advanced than its price suggests. It does a stellar job cleaning, removing 55% of the debris that was found in our tests (it was second only to the Roomba Q5 Pro). It also mops using only one pad and a reciprocating movement which is cleaner than the majority of the mop cleaners with robots that we've examined. It's also highly self-sufficient, with a full-featured app and a self-emptying base that can be washed.
The well-designed iRobot app guides you through a mapping run that gathers information about your floorplan and any "no-go" areas you have marked on the map. It can be used to create cleaning schedules, set up a spot clean or to sort out your rooms with the most dirt to ensure better performance. The app offers a variety of features, such as seasonal suggestions, customized mapping, and advanced cleaning settings.
It can also reach corners and under furniture more easily because its shape is more rectangular. It also has a powerful 8,000 Pascal suction and combs with intelligent technology for pet hair. You can also create a spot-cleaner which will thoroughly clean an area.
The Miele Scout RX3 Home Vision HD is a more sleek more affordable alternative to iRobot Roomba. It is more appealing in its style, much like Dolce & Gabbana. The twin cameras are designed like adorable eyes. It is excellent at vacuuming, but it is more likely to get stuck on low thresholds. It is also noisier than other top robot vacuums we have examined. It also comes with an app that's not as intuitive, and a smaller base station that does not double as a bin for emptying.
