WoW Upgrades - The Item Upgrader

Upgrades will give you a boost to specific stats. Each upgrade increases the level of the item by +3. Each upgrade also boosts a random substat.

The upgraded gear is usually more valuable, unless the item is not required by nature (like FB sorc shields) or has a high variance in stats (like the eth Titan weapons). Upgrades are not as useful for the latter due to the requirement to roll a perfect version.

Recycle Points

The upgrader for items allows players to upgrade gear to a higher item level by supplying the appropriate currency to the NPC. Upgrades can be applied on any kind of weapon or armor. However, the item that is used for the upgrade will be consumed for the duration of time and can't be used again. Upgrades can be used to create the enchantments.

You can upgrade your gear at any time by visiting the upgrader in any major city. It is recommended to visit the upgrader every few weeks, to keep your equipment up-to-date.

The cost of upgrades will depend on the current level of the item upgrading being upgraded however, they will always be cheaper than purchasing new equipment from other sources. For example, upgrading a Benthic chest piece to ilvl 385 will cost 20 recycle points, purchasing a similar piece from another player will costs 105.

Valorstones

Upgrades are items that are used to level up weapons, tools, armor, and other items. They can be purchased by players from item upgrader NPCs in exchange for various currencies, and can also be found in random treasure lists. Once purchased, an upgrade can be applied to any weapon, tool, or armor. The button will show the preview of an item level upgrade's next level of upgrade, if there are enough materials.

The upgrade cost depends on the item slot and current item level as well as the level of the weapon, which is more than gloves or bracers for example. Each step costs 15 Flightstones plus a certain number of crests. Some upgrades give discounts on Flightstones. After an item upgrader mod has been upgraded to a certain amount, it can be degraded and returned to the upgrader for a lesser amount of both currency types.

A lot of locations offer upgraders for items in addition to the main island and a few outposts. The NPCs provide both an upgrade coupon and the chance to obtain a new recipe. The discount on upgrades increases according to the number of items being upgraded. It can also be boosted by having players complete some specific achievements or complete quests.

Unlike Cromwell in Baldur's Gate II there is no upgrader for items in the beginning of Icewind Dale. Instead, the NPCs that are available to facilitate upgrades are acquired via a variety of means, which is both an improvement as well as a disadvantage.

In Season 3, several new features were added to the upgrade system. Once the player has upgraded to a specific level for an armor slot, upgrading other items to the same level, will cost less. This is true even if those items are from an entirely different set of gear.

The amount of Valorstones needed to upgrade is reduced and the discount is account-wide. The amount of Harbinger Crests needed for upgrades is also reduced and is not available until players reach certain milestones in their achievements.

Crests

When it comes to upgrading equipment in WoW, players have a few choices. Flightstones are a currency that is available to all players for upgrading. Crests are more special, and are used during specific item level upgrades. Crests are a key element of the Dragonflight gear progression system introduced in 10.1, and come in four ranks.

The first thing to remember is that crests are only able to be spent on equipment that is of a particular rank, and that each rank has different requirements for its upgrade item path. The simplest and most straightforward upgrade path costs 15 crests, while the most complex requires as many as 20 crests based on the type of equipment that is being upgraded.

Players can earn crests through completing tasks at the appropriate level. This could be done by doing outdoor activities or doing dungeons or raids in all difficulties to get equipment of lower tier or Mythicbosses of raids or dungeons with heroic difficulty for endgame gear. These crests can be exchanged with an item upgrader, such as Cuzolth or Vaskarn in Valdrakken to upgrade the item in the proper steps and pathways.

Utilizing these new currencies isn't too complicated however, the system will introduce a few modifications to the upgrade process. For instance, when an item reaches the highest level of upgrading for any rank (Explorer, Adventurer, Veteran, Champion, Hero, or Mythic) it will no longer require Flightstones to be upgraded. This allows players to upgrade their equipment to the highest level possible for all their characters, instead of relying on seasonal loot.

Another significant change is that crests have one purpose and it's crucial to use them wisely. It is best to put your Whelpling-rank Crests on the Best item upgrade gear you can find, and save Drake and Wyrm Crests for the next set of upgrades. This is especially relevant for items like trinkets and rings that fill several slots. The discount on the account is only applicable when all slots on the character are filled with top-quality gear.
