Both the Q5 as well as the Q7 Max Series get very high scores on our tests on floors that are bare, and they're particularly adept in removing pet hair. There are some issues, however, that prevent them from being our first choice. For one, the Q5's navigation system doesn't have AI-powered obstacle avoidance, so it's prone to getting hung up on shoes and socks, and is unable to navigate tightly packed rooms very efficiently in our tests. It also doesn't have a camera that would let it see the corners of an area.
However, it's a good choice, especially if you want to save money on a iRobot Roomba and you have a mostly unfinished home or office. It's also very quiet and operates while you're at work or school. It doesn't have the edge-to-edge floor vacuuming feature that's offered in the more expensive iRobot Roomba X30. It's also less effective at mopping, as it relies on disposable wet wipes, which don't stick on well and aren't able to deal with dried-on debris. The Q5 has a self-emptying cradle however. And, if you have to change the mopping pad to dry ones in a matter of seconds.
2. IRobot Roomba
The iRobot Roomba X30 packs impressive vacuuming and mopping capabilities into an elegant, compact package. Its quick navigation and smart cleaning maps make it simple to clean and efficient in dealing with larger particles such as pet hair. It also comes with a self-emptying dustbin with powerful suction and support for virtual boundaries. It's the best robot hoover for carpets, however it's not as good as other hoovers when it comes to deep cleaning.

It's a little more expensive than iRobot Combo v9+ or iRobot Roomba j9+ but has superior suction and an onboard bin that automatically empty into the base. It also supports voice commands through Amazon Alexa and Google Assistant. It even cleans the floor after vacuuming this feature, which we haven't seen in other robotic vacuum/mop combos.
3. IRobot Roomba X40
This robot vacuum and mop combination features a sleek, circular design that appears more like the regular Roomba model than the bulky models from the rivals. It's one of our most attractive looking robot vacuums. The newest model from iRobot happens to be its smartest model, with features that are cutting-edge like enhanced dirt detection technology and future compatibility with Matter (another company's robot that is able to wash mop pads).
It's the only robotic mop or autonomous vacuum to score 100% in our testing thanks to a blend of high-tech sensors, which include a camera, structured light system, and multiple lasers. The X40 Ultra was the only robot we tested that could refill and empty its basestation autonomously. It also boasted a suction of 12,000Pa and self-cleaning mop mops.
As with other iRobot models like the X40 is user-friendly, with a simple mobile app interface, and integration with Amazon Alexa, Apple HomeKit, and Google Assistant. The only issue is that it's still quite an eerily noisy device, which can be problematic if you run it in the morning prior to work or at night as you try to fall asleep.
It's also a bit expensive, but it's not as pricey as the Ecovacs X2 Omni or Roborock's S8 MaxV Ultra Both of which are equally capable and better-looking. It's a dual-purpose vacuum that's very capable, but it's going to cost you more and produce more noise.
4. iRobot Roomba L20 Ultra
The L20 Ultra is a top-of-the-range robot vacuum and mop, with a lot of advanced features to help you forget about your chores. The L20 Ultra is a hands-free cleaning device that is similar to Ecovacs the top of the line X2 Omni or Roborock's S8 Pro Ultra. It features a multi-functional dock that can automatically emptys the vacuum's bin and refills the water tank, as well as washes and dry mop pads.
The smart robot uses LIDAR and structured lighting to create floor plans and detect obstacles. It is more efficient in its navigation than its premium competitors. It also has a front mounted camera for real-time hazards detection but this wasn't 100% reliable in our tests and could be confused with power cords or obstructions.
The automatic vacuum cleaner and mop cleaner comes with a maximum suction of 7,000 Pascals which is more than sufficient to do the job. It also comes with "Intelligent Dirt Detection", that regulates the amount of time the vac works and adjusts the frequency of cleaning for various areas of the house depending on the amount of dirt they are.
If you have a larger home, you should consider choosing a model that has spot or zone cleaning mode. This allows you to tell the robot which area of your house needs to be cleaned using the app or voice control. If you have furniture, a stair-mode is also useful. For busy families recharge functions and resume feature that permits your robot vacuum to continue from where it left off could be very useful.
5. iRobot Roomba RX3
The RX3 is a smarter cleaner than you would expect from its price tag. It does a stellar job vacuuming, removing 55% of the debris we found in our tests (it was second only to the Roomba Q5 Pro). It also mops using a single pad that uses a reciprocating motion that cleans better than most of the other mop cleaners for robots we've tested. And it's highly self-sufficient with a full-featured app and a self-emptying, washable base.
The iRobot app is designed to guide you through the mapping process, which gathers information on your floorplan, as well as any "no go" areas that you have marked on the map. It can be used to make cleaning schedules, set up a spot clean or to sort out your rooms with the most dirt to ensure better performance. The app also gives access to a variety of features, such as seasonal suggestions, custom maps, and advanced settings for your cleaning.
