Origins

Creationism in Korea
In South Korea, 26% of the population is Christian. Creationists have made strides in promoting their beliefs to this group. A 2009 survey showed that nearly a third of respondents were against evolution. Of those who voted, 41% said that there was not enough scientific evidence to support evolution; 39% said the theory was in contradiction to their religious beliefs and 17% claimed it was difficult to understand. This level of doubt is similar to that of the United States, where a similar percentage of people do not accept that humans evolved from less advanced types of life.
In the past, the anti-evolution campaign in Korea was primarily focused on teaching students and bringing Christ to them. A significant rise in the interest in creation science occurred in the year 1980, when there was an all-day seminar that was held during the World Evangelization Crusade in Seoul that featured Drs. Henry Morris and Duane Gish of ICR as the main speakers. This event drew a large audience of professors, scientists, and church leaders.
The success of this event resulted in the creation of the Korea Association of Creation Research (KACR) on January 31st, 1981. The inauguration meeting was widely covered in national newspapers, such as The Korea Times and Chosun Ilbo and also attracted a lot of attention.
KACR began publishing a newsletter called CREATION. In CREATION, the organization presented its own work and published articles on the scientific evidence supporting creationism. It also translated several film strips and slides from ICR and also some books on creationism which were already published outside of Korea. KACR members also gave talks at universities and churches throughout the country.
