The best robot hoover can clean and mop without requiring your attention, and it leaves your floors spotless. Its affordable price and high-end functions (such as a dirt detectors) are positives.

Check your robot's brushes regularly for tangled debris and hair. Wash them when necessary. Some models can also automatically empty their dust bin on board into a larger one at the base, which reduces the amount of fine dust that is released into the air.

1. Roomba Q5 Pro

The Q5 Pro, and its more expensive sibling the Q7 Max Series are among the most powerful robotic vacuums we've examined. They feature top-of-the-line motors that can pull up to 5,500 Pascals of suction force. As with other top iRobot models (including the top-rated model) they employ smart mapping technology to create detailed floor plans that avoid household obstacles such as cords and furniture legs. The robots also feature a feature called Carpet Boost which boosts its power when it senses dirt on the carpet.

The Q5 and Q7 Max Series both scored extremely well in our tests on bare floors and are especially adept in removing hair from dogs. However, they do have some flaws that prevent them from being our top choice. One of the Q5's shortcomings is its navigation system doesn't have AI-powered obstacles avoidance. It's therefore prone to become stuck on shoes and socks, and it couldn't navigate through rooms with a lot of people efficiently during our tests. Also, it doesn't have an image sensor that lets it see the corners of the room.

It's still a great deal, especially if your home or office has a lot of bare flooring and you're looking to save money. It's also very quiet and can be used while you're at work, or going to school. The only thing it lacks that you can't find in the more expensive iRobot Roomba X30 is edge-to-edge vacuuming of floors with no floor. It's also less effective in mopping. It is dependent on disposable wet wipes that don't stick very well and cannot handle dried-on debris. The Q5 does come with self-emptying docks, however. If you want to, you can swap the mopping pad to a dry one in minutes.

2. iRobot Roomba X30

The iRobot Roomba X30 is a compact elegant vacuum cleaner that also has the ability to sweep floors. Its intelligent cleaning maps and fluid navigation make it simple to clean, and effective in tackling larger particles like pet hair. It also has a self-emptying bin with powerful suction and support for virtual boundaries. It's the best robot hoover for carpets but it falls behind some competitors in terms of deep cleaning.

This high-performance vacuum and mops utilizes sensors to avoid obstacles and pet waste. It also learns the patterns of your home over time to provide better cleaning. The app lets you customize zones and change the cleaning schedule. Its battery life is average when compared to other models.

When the X30 Ultra is in a carpeted area, you can tell it to take off and extend its mops. This helps prevent cross contamination. The flex arm is perfect for getting under low-lying furniture and along baseboards. It doesn't perform as well on the washboard as our other Editors' Choice Picks, the Ecovacs Ozmo N8Pro+ and the iRobot Combo j9+.

During testing, X30 Ultra was the most efficient robot vacuum/mop which could complete the task of cleaning a whole home with just 66 percent of its battery remaining. It did a great cleaning job on different flooring and rooms with different kinds of flooring, including some area carpets. Its obstacle detection was great and it was able to avoid fake dog turds and socks, shoes and bundles of cables.

It's a little more expensive than the iRobot Combo v9+ and iRobot Roomba j9+, however, it comes with superior suction, a dustbin on board that automatically empties into its base, and supports voice commands through Amazon Alexa and Google Assistant. It can even clean the floor after it vacuums it, something we've not seen on other robot automatic vacuum cleaner and mop/mop combinations.

3. IRobot Roomba X40

With an elegant circular design that appears more like a normal Roomba than the competitors' boxy units This mop and robot autonomous vacuum is among the most appealing looking in our evaluations. The latest model from iRobot is also the most intelligent. It comes with advanced features, like enhanced dirt detection and future compatibility (another company's robot that is able to wash mop pads in a self-cleaning manner).

It's the only robotic mop or vacuum that has a perfect 10 in our evaluations thanks to a blend of high-tech sensors that include cameras, a structured light system, and multiple lasers. The X40 Ultra is also the only robot we tested that can fully autonomously refill and empty its base station, and it boasts industry-leading 12,000Pa suction and self-cleaning mop pads.

As with other iRobot models, the X40 is user-friendly, with a simple mobile app interface, and integration with Amazon Alexa, Apple HomeKit, and Google Assistant. The only downside is that the X40 is still a noisy unit. This can be a problem in mornings before work or at night when you are trying to sleep.

It's also a bit expensive however, not as much as the Ecovacs MaxV Ultra or the Roborock S8 Omni, which are both equally capable and better looking. This is a two-in-one vacuum that is very efficient however, it will cost you more and make more noise.

iRobot L20 Ultra

The L20 Ultra is a top-of-the-range robot vacuum and mop, with a lot of advanced features that will let you get rid of your chores. The L20 Ultra is a hands-free cleaning machine that is similar to Ecovacs the top of the line X2 Omni or Roborock's S8 Pro Ultra. It features a multi-functional dock that can automatically emptys the bin of the automatic vacuum cleaner and mop and fills up the water tank, and washes and dry the mop pads.

The smart robot makes use of the combination of LIDAR and structured light to draw out the floor plan and detect obstacles, navigating more intelligently than its top competitors. It also comes with a front-mounted camera for real-time detection of hazards but this was not foolproof in our testing and was often confused by power cords or other obstructions.

The vacuum has a suction maximum of 7,000 Pascals which is more than enough to get the job done. It also features "Intelligent Dirt Detection", which regulates the intensity at which the vacuum works and adjusts the frequency of cleaning for different areas of the home in accordance with how dirty they tend to be.

For bigger homes it's worth looking for a model with zone or spot cleaning modes that let you tell the robot to clean one specific area of your home by using the app or via voice commands. If you have lots of furniture, a stair-mode is also a good option. Finally the recharge and resume function that lets your robot vacuum pick up right where it left off is ideal for busy families.

iRobot RX3

The RX3 is more intelligent than the price suggests. It has a great vacuuming performance, picking up 55% debris in our tests. (It was only second to the Roomba Q5 Pro). It also mopses using one pad and a reciprocating motion which is cleaner than the majority of the robot mop cleaners that we've tried. It's also self-sufficient with a fully-featured application, and a self emptying base that can be washed.

The well-designed iRobot app will guide you through an initial mapping run that gathers information about your floorplan and any "no-go" areas you set on the map. You can use it to make cleaning schedules, plan a spot clean or to sort out your rooms with the most dirt to improve performance. The app has a range of features, including seasonal suggestions, customized mapping, and advanced cleaning settings.

Its shape is more rectangular than other robot vacuums, meaning it is able to reach corners and underneath furniture more easily. It also has a powerful suction of 8,000 Pascal suction and intelligent combs for pet hair. You can also set up a spot-clean that will thoroughly clean an area.

The Miele Scout RX3 Home Vision HD offers a sleeker more affordable alternative to iRobot Roomba. It's got a more attractive style, much like Dolce & Gabbana. The twin cameras are designed like cute little eyes. It is great at vacuuming, however it is more likely to be stuck on low thresholds. It is also louder than other top robot vacuums we have tested. It also has a less intuitive app and a small base station that can't be used as a bin for emptying.
