WoW Upgrades - The Item Upgrader

Upgrades provide a guaranteed boost to specific stats. Each upgrade increases the item upgrader mod level by +3. A random substat is also increased with every upgrade.

The upgraded gear is usually more useful, unless the item is not required by nature (like FB sorc shields) or has a high variance in stats (like eth Titan weapons). Upgrades are less valuable for those with lower requirements due to the requirement to roll an exact version.

Recycle Points

The Item Upgrader Kit upgrader allows players to upgrade their gear by offering the currency to an NPC. Upgrades can be applied to any kind of armor or weapon. However, the item upgrades used for the upgrade will be consumed for the duration of time and will not be able to be used again. Upgrades can be applied to enchantments.

The upgrader can be found in all major cities and can be visited anytime to upgrade your equipment. To ensure that your equipment is up-to-date it is recommended you visit the upgrader every few weeks.

Upgrades will cost more depending on the item level, however they'll always be less expensive than purchasing new equipment. For example, upgrading a Benthic chest to ilvl 385 will cost 20 recycle points, purchasing a similar piece from another player will cost 105.

Valorstones

Upgrades are items that are used to improve the quality of weapons and tools, armor and other items. Players can purchase them from item upgraders NPCs in a variety of currencies. They can also find them in random treasure lists. Once purchased, an upgrade can be applied to any tool, weapon or armor. The button will display the preview of an item's next level of upgrade, if there are enough materials.

Upgrade costs vary depending on the item upgrading slot, and the current item level. For example, weapons will cost more than gloves, bracers, or bracers. Each upgrade cost 15 Flightstones plus a certain number of crests. Certain upgrades provide a discount on the Flightstones. Once an item is upgraded to a certain amount, it can be degraded and sold back to the upgrader for a lesser amount of the two currency types.

Item upgraders can be found in many places, including the main island as well as some outposts. The NPCs offer both an upgrade discount and the chance to get a brand new upgrade recipe. The upgrade discount increases when more items are upgraded. It can be increased if players finish certain achievements or quests.

Icewind Dale does not have an item upgrader at start unlike Cromwell from Baldur's Gate II. Instead, the NPCs that are available to facilitate upgrades are acquired via a variety of means that are both an improvement but also a drawback.

In Season 3, a number of new features were added to the upgrade system. After a player has upgraded to a specific level for an armor slot upgrading other items to the same item level will cost less. This applies even if those items are from an entirely different set of gear.

The amount of Valorstones required for upgrades is reduced, and the discount is account-wide. The amount of Harbinger Crests needed to upgrade is cut as well, but is only available when certain milestones are achieved.

Crests

When upgrading equipment in WoW players have a few choices. Flightstones are an option that is accessible to all players for upgrading. Crests are more specific and are utilized during specific level upgrades for items. Crests are the main component of the Dragonflight gear progression system introduced in 10.1 and are available in 4 ranks.

The first thing to remember is that crests can only be used to purchase equipment that is of a particular rank, and each rank has its own requirements for upgrading. The simplest and most straightforward upgrade path costs 15 crests, while the more complex one can require as much as 20 crests based on the type of equipment that is being upgraded.

Players can earn crests through finishing content at the appropriate level. This could be done by doing outdoor activities, or by taking on dungeons and raids of any difficulty to earn equipment of lower tier or Mythicbosses for raids, or dungeons with a heroic difficulty for endgame gear. Crests can be exchanged at an upgrader NPC, such as Cuzolth in Dornogal, or Vaskarn in Valdrakken to obtain the appropriate upgrade paths and steps.

The new currency system isn't difficult to use, but it will bring some changes to the upgrade process. Once a piece of gear reaches the highest level of upgrade for any rank (Explorer or Adventurer) it is no longer required to purchase Flightstones. This change allows players to upgrade their equipment to the highest level possible on all of their characters instead of relying on seasonal loot.

It's also crucial to choose crests wisely, as they only have one use. It's best to use your Whelpling-rank Crests on the highest-quality gear you can find, and keep Drake and Wyrm Crests for the next round of upgrades. This is especially applicable to rings and trinkets that fill multiple slots on the character, which can only be eligible to benefit from the discount for all accounts when all slots are filled with high-quality equipment.
