Both the Q5 as well as the Q7 Max Series get very high scores on our floor tests that test for bare floors, and they're particularly adept in cleaning pet hair. There are some issues however, which prevent them from being our top choice. One of the weaknesses of the Q5 is its navigation system does not feature AI-powered obstacles avoidance. It also supports voice commands through Amazon Alexa and Google Assistant. It can even clean the floor after it vacuums it, something we've not seen on other robot vacuum/mop combinations.
3. Roomba X40 from iRobot
With a sleek circular design that appears more like a regular Roomba than the competition's compact models this robot vacuum cleaner reviews vacuum and mop combo is among the most attractive looking models in our evaluations. The latest flagship model from iRobot is also the most intelligent. It features advanced features such as Enhanced Dirt Detection and future compatibility (another company's robot that is able to wash mop pads in a self-cleaning manner).
It's the only robot vacuum/mop that scored an exemplary 10/10 in our evaluations thanks to a blend of high-tech sensors that include cameras, a structured light system and multiple lasers. The X40 Ultra was the only robot we tested that could refill and empty its basestation on its own. It also boasted an industry-leading suction of 12,000Pa and self-cleaning mops.
The X40, like other iRobot products, is easy to use. It comes with an easy mobile app interface that integrates with Amazon Alexa and Apple HomeKit. The only drawback is that it's still quite a noisy unit which could be problematic if you run it in the morning before work, or at night when you try to sleep.
It's also a bit expensive however, not as much as the Ecovacs S8 MaxV Ultra or the Roborock S8 Omni, which are equally powerful and more attractive. If you're willing to put up with a bit more noise and a little more cost this is a efficient two-in-one device that should satisfy most people.
iRobot L20 Ultra
The L20 Ultra is a top-of-the-range robot vacuum that mops vacuum and mop, with many advanced features that will let you get rid of your chores. Like Ecovacs' range-topping X2 Omni and Roborock's S8 Pro Ultra, the L20 is designed to be a hands-free cleaning machine that takes charge of both vacuuming and mopping, with a multi-function dock that automatically empty the vacuum's dustbin, refills its water tank, and washes and dries its mop pads.
The smart robot uses LIDAR and structured lighting to map out floor plans and detect obstacles. It navigates more intelligently than its premium competitors. It also has a front-mounted camera for real-time hazard detection however, it wasn't 100% foolproof during our tests and was occasionally confused by power cords or other obstructions.
The vacuum cleaner has the capacity to suction up to 7,000 Pascals which is more than enough to complete the task. It also has a feature called "Intelligent Dirt Detection", that regulates the power of the vacuum and adjusts cleaning frequency for various areas of the house based on how dirty the areas are.
For larger homes it's recommended to choose models that has zone or spot cleaning modes that allow you to instruct the robot to clean one particular area of your home by using the app or voice controls. A stair mode can be useful if you have a number of furniture. For families that are busy recharge functions and resume feature that permits your robot vacuum to pick up where it left off could be very useful.
iRobot RX3
The RX3 is a cleaner with more intelligence than you might imagine from its price. It's a pro at cleaning, removing 55% of the debris we found in our tests (it was second only to the Roomba Q5 Pro). It also mopses with a single pad that uses a reciprocating motion that does a better job cleaning than the other mop cleaners for robots we've tested. It's also extremely self-sufficient, with a fully-featured app, and a self emptying, washable base.
The well-designed iRobot application guides you through an initial mapping run that gathers information about your floorplan and any "no-go" areas you set on the map. You can use it to make cleaning schedules, set up an area for cleaning or to prioritize your most filthy rooms to ensure better performance. The app has a range of features, such as seasonal suggestions, custom mapping, and advanced cleaning settings.
It also has the ability to reach corners and under furniture better because its shape is more rectangular. It features a powerful 8000 Pascal suction, as well as clever combs for removing pet hair. You can also organize a spot-cleaner that will thoroughly clean a specific area.
The Miele Scout RX3 Home Vision HD is a more sleek and more affordable alternative to the iRobot Roomba.
