Both the Q5 and the Q7 Max Series get very excellent scores in our tests on floors that are bare They're also particularly adept in removing pet hair. However, they do have a few flaws that keep them from being our top choice. One of the weaknesses of the Q5 is that its navigation system does not include AI-powered obstacle avoidance. It's therefore prone to become stuck on shoes and socks and could not navigate densely packed rooms very well during our tests. Also, it doesn't have an image sensor that lets it see the corners of a room.
It's still a great option, especially if you want to save money on an iRobot Roomba and you have a bare-floored home or office. Additionally, it's quiet and can be used when you're at work or at school. It lacks the edge-to-edge bare floor vacuuming that is offered in the more expensive iRobot Roomba X30. It's also less effective at mopping. It is dependent on disposable wet wipes, which don't stick well and aren't able to deal with dried-on debris. The Q5 does have an auto-emptying dock, however. If you're in need of it mop, the mopping pad can be replaced with a wet one in seconds.
2. IRobot Roomba X30
The iRobot Roomba X30 is a compact elegant vacuum cleaner that also has the ability to sweep floors. Its agile navigation and intelligent cleaning maps make it easy to clean and effective at taking on larger particles, such as pet hair. It also comes with a self-emptying dustbin as well as powerful suction, and support for virtual boundaries. It's the most efficient robotic hoover for carpets, but it isn't as effective as some of its competitors when it comes to deep cleaning.
This highly efficient mop and vacuum combo uses advanced sensor technology to avoid obstacles and pet waste, and it will learn your home's layout over time to provide more efficient cleaning. You can modify the schedule of cleaning and even customize zones with the well-designed app. It comes with a battery life that is similar to other models.
You can tell the X30 Ultra to remove its mops and extend them when in a room with carpet to prevent cross-contamination. Its flex arm is also ideal to get under furniture with low levels and along baseboards. It doesn't perform as well on the washboard as our other Editors' Choice Picks, the Ecovacs Ozmo N8Pro+ and the iRobot Combo j9+.
During testing, X30 Ultra was the quickest robot vacuum/mop that could clean an entire home with just 66 percent of its battery remaining. It did a great cleaning robot mop and vacuum job on a variety of rooms and floors with various kinds of flooring, including some area rug. Its obstacle detection was top notch and it swiftly eluded fake dog socks, turds, and bundles of cables.
It's a bit more expensive than the iRobot Combo v9+ and iRobot Roomba j9+, but it has superior suction, an onboard dustbin that automatically empties into its base, and also supports voice commands using Amazon Alexa and Google Assistant. It can also clean the floor even after it vacuums. This is a feature we haven't seen in other robotic vacuum/mop combos.
3. IRobot Roomba X40
With an elegant, circular design that looks like a regular Roomba than the competition's boxes this mop and robot vacuum is one of the most attractive designs in our tests. iRobot's latest flagship model also is its most advanced and has advanced features like enhanced dirt detection technology and future compatibility with Matter (another company's robot that can autonomously wash mop pads).
It's the only robotic mop or vacuum that scored an exemplary 10/10 in our evaluations due to a mix of high-tech sensors, which include cameras, a structured light system and multiple lasers. The X40 Ultra was the only robot we tested that could refill and empty its basestation in a self-contained manner. It also boasted a suction of 12,000Pa and self-cleaning mop mops.
As with other iRobot models, the X40 is user-friendly, with an easy mobile app interface, and integration with Amazon Alexa, Apple HomeKit as well as Google Assistant. The only drawback is that it's still quite an eerily noisy device that could be a problem if you run it in the morning before work, or at night when you try to sleep.
It's also quite expensive, but it's not as pricey as the Ecovacs Omni or Roborock S8 MaxV Ultra Both of which are similarly capable and more attractive. If you're willing to live with a little more noise and a little more cost, this is a very powerful two-in-one that will delight most.
4. iRobot Roomba L20 Ultra
The L20 Ultra is a top-of-the-range robot mop vacuum and mop, with a lot of advanced features to help you get rid of your chores. Like Ecovacs' range-topping X2 Omni and Roborock's S8 Pro Ultra, the L20 is designed to be a hands-off cleaning machine that takes the care of mopping and vacuuming, with a multifunction dock that automatically empty the vacuum's dustbin, refills its water tank and cleans and dry its mop pads.
The smart robot mop uses LIDAR and structured lighting to create floorplans and identify obstacles. It can navigate more efficiently than its premium competitors. It also has a front mounted camera for real-time hazards detection however this was not 100% reliable in our tests and was sometimes confused with obstructions or power cords.
The vacuum cleaner has the capacity to suction up to 7,000 Pascals which is more than sufficient to do the job. It also has a feature known as "Intelligent Dirt Detection", which regulates the power of the vacuum and adjusts cleaning frequency for different areas of the house depending on how dirty these areas are.
For bigger homes it's worth looking for a model with zone or spot cleaning modes that allow you to instruct the robot to clean a particular area of your home using the app or voice commands. A stairway mode is useful if you have a number of furniture. For busy families, a recharge function and resume feature that allows your robot vacuum to continue from where it left off can be very beneficial.
iRobot RX3
The RX3 is a smarter cleaner than you'd think from its price. It does a stellar job vacuuming, removing 55% of the debris that was found in our tests (it was second only to the Roomba Q5 Pro). It also mops using one pad and a rotating motion that cleans better that most mop cleaners for robots that we've tested. And it's highly self-sufficient with a fully-featured app as well as a self-emptying, washable base.
The iRobot app is designed to help you navigate the mapping process that collects data on your floorplan, as well as any "no go" areas that you have marked on the map. It can be used to design cleaning schedules, or to create an automatic spot-clean. You can also use it to prioritize your dirtiest areas to improve performance. The app also provides access to many features like seasonal suggestions, custom maps, and advanced settings for your cleaning.

It does a good job vacuuming, but it is more susceptible to get caught on low thresholds and is a bit noisier than the other top robotic vacuums we've tested. It also has an app that's less intuitive and a small base station that doesn't double as a bin to empty.
