Creationism in Korea
In South Korea, 26% of the population is Christian. Creationists have made strides in promoting their beliefs to this group. A 2009 survey showed that nearly a third of respondents were against evolution. Of those who voted, 41% said that there wasn't enough scientific evidence to support evolution; 39% said the theory was in contradiction to their religious beliefs; and 17% said it was difficult to comprehend. This level of disbelief is similar to that of the United States where a similar percentage do not believe humans evolved from earlier species of life.
In the past, the anti-evolution campaign in Korea was focused on educating students and bringing Christ to them. A significant rise in the interest in creation science occurred in 1980, with an all-day seminar that was held during the World Evangelization Crusade in Seoul which included Drs. Henry Morris and Duane Gish of ICR as the keynote speakers. This event drew a large audience of professors, scientists, and church leaders.
The success of this event resulted in the establishment of the Korea Association of Creation Research (KACR) on January 31st 1981. The meeting was covered extensively in the national media, including The Korea Times, Chosun Ilbo and The Korea Times.
KACR began publishing a monthly newsletter called CREATION, which covered its activities and published articles about scientific evidence for creationism. It also translated several films and slides from ICR and also a few books on creationism that were in print outside of Korea. KACR members also gave talks in churches and universities throughout the country.
One instance of a KACR success story occurred at the KAIST university in Seoul. Students at KAIST in Seoul were keen on the concept of creationism that they raised money and got funding to build a small creationist museum on campus.
In addition to its public activities, KACR publishes a bimonthly news magazine called CREATION that covers topics related to creation science, and it has sponsored a series of lectures by ICR staff. It has also established a network of local branches that conduct seminars and provide talks to schoolchildren and community groups.

In the late nineteenth century and early twentieth century, Korea began to adopt a more Westernized style of life. The traditional hanbok, or Korean dress, was replaced to miniskirts and other fashion elements from abroad. Wang Geon also introduced fundamental reforms, and strengthened the central government system. This marked the end to the Three Kingdoms Period. The Korean peninsula was then ruled by the Goryeo Dynasty. In the Three Kingdoms Period, Goguryeo Baekje Silla gradually grew into powerful states on the peninsula, and in Manchuria.
