For instance, the Q5's navigation system does not include AI-powered obstacle avoidance, so it's prone to become entangled in socks and shoes and couldn't navigate tight spaces very well in our tests. It doesn't also have a camera that can see around corners.
It's still a good robot vacuum deal particularly if your office or home has lots of unfinished floors and you want to save money. Plus, it's very quiet and you can use it while you're at work or going to school. The only thing it lacks that you won't find in the pricier iRobot Roomba X30 is edge-to-edge vacuuming on floors that aren't clean. It's also less effective at mopping, relying on disposable wet wipes that don't hold on for long and don't deal with dried-on debris. The Q5 does have a self-emptying dock, though. If you need to mop, the mopping pad can be swapped for a wet one in minutes.
2. IRobot Roomba
The iRobot Roomba X30 is a compact, sleek vacuum cleaner that can also sweep floors. Its intelligent cleaning maps and fluid navigation make it simple to clean, and efficient in tackling larger particles, like pet hair. It also has a powerful suction and a self-emptying bin. It's the most efficient robot hoover for carpets, though it lags behind some competitors in deep cleaning.
This top-performing mop and vacuum combo uses advanced sensor technology to dodge obstacles and pet waste and it will learn your home's layout over time to provide more efficient cleaning. The app allows you to set up zones and modify the cleaning schedule. It comes with a battery life that is comparable to other models.
When the X30 Ultra is in a carpeted area, you can instruct it to pull back and extend its mops. This will help prevent cross contamination. It's a bit more expensive than iRobot Combo v9+ or iRobot Roomba j9+ but offers superior suction and an onboard bin that automatically empty into the base. It also supports voice commands through Amazon Alexa and Google Assistant. It is able to clean floors even after it has vacuumed. This is a feature that we haven't seen on other robotic vacuum/mop combos.
3. IRobot Roomba X40
With a sleek circular design that appears like a regular Roomba than the competitors' boxes this robot vacuum and mop combo is one of the most attractive designs in our tests. The latest model from iRobot is also among its most advanced. It features advanced features like enhanced dirt detection and future compatibility (another company's robot that can wash mop pads in a self-cleaning manner).
It's also the only robotic vacuum/mop that scored the perfect 10/10 out of 10 in our tests. This is due to a mix of high-tech sensors, including a structured light system, a camera and multiple lasers. The X40 Ultra is also the only robot we tested that can completely self-refill and empty its base station, and boasts an its own self-cleaning mop pads.
The X40 as with other iRobot products, is easy to use. It has an intuitive mobile application interface and integrates with Amazon Alexa and Apple HomeKit. The only drawback is that the X40 is still a loud unit. This can be a problem in the mornings prior to work or in the evening when you are trying to fall asleep.
It's also a bit costly however, not as much as the Ecovacs S8 MaxV Ultra or the Roborock S8 Omni, which are equally capable and better looking. If you're willing with a bit more noise and a little more cost it's a capable two-in-one that should delight most.
4. iRobot Roomba L20 Ultra
The L20 Ultra is a top-of-the-range robot vacuum and mop with a variety of sophisticated features that will let you forget about your chores. Like Ecovacs' range-topping X2 Omni and Roborock's S8 Pro Ultra, the L20 is designed to be a hands-free cleaning machine that takes the care of mopping and vacuuming, with a multifunction dock that automatically empty the automatic vacuum and mop's dust bin, fills its water tank and cleans and dry its mop pads.
The smart robot uses a combination of LIDAR and structured light to draw out the floor plan and detect obstacles, navigating more intelligently than some of its premium rivals. It also comes with a front-mounted camera for real-time hazards detection but this wasn't foolproof in our tests and was sometimes confused with obstructions or power cords.
The vacuum has a suction capacity of 7,000 Pascals, which is more than enough to finish the job. It also comes with an option called "Intelligent Dirt Detection", that regulates the power of the vacuum and adjusts the frequency of cleaning for different areas of the house based on how dirty the areas are.
For larger homes, it's worth opting for a model with zone or spot cleaning modes that allow you to tell the robot to clean one specific area of your home via the app or voice controls. A stair mode can be beneficial if you have large furniture. Additionally a recharge and resume function that lets your robot vacuum continue where it left off is ideal for busy families.
5. iRobot Roomba RX3
The RX3 is a smarter cleaner than you'd imagine from its price. It does a stellar job cleaning, removing 55% of debris in our tests (it was second only to the Roomba Q5 Pro). It also mops using one pad that has a reciprocating motion, which cleans better than most of the other robot mop cleaners we've examined. It's self-sufficient too, with a full-featured application and an auto-emptying washable base.
The well-designed iRobot application guides you through a mapping run that gathers information about your floorplan and any "no-go" areas you have marked on the map. You can use it to create cleaning schedules, plan an area for cleaning or to sort out your rooms with the most dirt to ensure better performance. The app offers a variety of features, such as seasonal suggestions, customized mapping, and advanced cleaning settings.
It can also reach corners and under furniture better because its shape is more rectangular. It has a powerful 8,000 Pascal suction and clever combs for removing pet hair. You can also set up a spot cleaning that intensely cleans a localized area.
The Miele Scout RX3 Home Vision HD is a sleeker and less expensive alternative to iRobot Roomba. It has a more attractive, Dolce & Gabbana-esque design and its twin cameras look like cute eyes. It is great at vacuuming, however it is more likely to be caught on low thresholds. It is also noisier than other top robot vacuums we've examined. It also has a less user-friendly app and a tiny base station that can't be used as an emptying bin.
