A robot vacuum can keep your floors clean enough to cut down on the frequency of hoovering manually. Pick a robot vacuum with good navigation, can clean stairs and corners and has an enormous bin that will need to be cleaned out every now and then.
There are models that mop and charge themselves which can be essential for those who have pets or kids. Many of the top performers in our tests have decent obstacle avoidance.
1. iRobot Roomba i3+ EVO
The i3+ EVO and its sibling the i3 EVO, are identical robots, but they differ in that the i3+ has self-emptying capabilities. This makes the i3+ an excellent option for those who want an automated, hands-free cleaning experience but don't mind taking the time to empty their robot's trash bin as it gets full.
Both robots are good in removing dirt and dust particles on floors and carpets and can move around furniture and other obstacles. iAdapt navigation software makes a smart map of your home to aid the i3+ in its navigation and clean efficiently. The i3+ isn't able to have obstacle avoidance capabilities like the i7+ or other top-rated robots that we tested. It may get stuck on power cords and socks and have difficulty navigating between different surfaces like carpet and hardwood.
iRobot recommends you clear out areas that the i3+ EVO will vacuum before you use it, which includes getting rid of any toys or clutter it may come across. It's also an excellent idea to keep the bin and filter clear so they don't become clogged with dirt. When the i3+'s internal bin is full or the battery is low it will return to its docking station, automatically emptying its debris into the station's dust bin and continues cleaning the area where it left off. Battery life is about an hour-and-a-half of continuous use. It takes about three hours to charge.
2. Roomba from iRobot
The iRobot Roomba i7+ is the most powerful model in the iRobot flagship line, and it has the most up-to-date features. It has self-charging and self-navigating, but the most significant feature is its self-emptying bin. This will eliminate the need for routine maintenance.
The Roomba I7+ can better map rooms with Imprint Smart Mapping. It also works with the iRobot Home app to let you schedule cleaning jobs and direct your robot by voice or via the app.
In our tests the i7+ performed quicker and more maneuverable than our runner-up and the eufy RoboVac G30, and it removed large chunks of pet hair from all surfaces types including carpeting. The main advantage it has over the Eufy is its self-emptying garbage bin, which removes major maintenance sources and lowers the cost of recurring maintenance.
We were also amazed by the i7+'s compatibility with Amazon Alexa and Google Assistant AI services which we used to instruct the robot to start, stop or pause its cleaning sessions and move around the room and vacuum the area. The iRobot Home App made it easy to connect the i7+ with these services. After connecting we were able to give the i7+ voice commands like "Hey Alexa, vacuum the master bedroom." The iRobot Home app also provides options to manage the i7+'s settings and monitoring its performance.
3. Dyson Cyclone V10
In a world of vacuums that are cordless and look like minivans or buses, this small Dyson model is an old-fashioned sports car. It's got the power and features to replace a stand-up vacuum for most households, but it also fits in well next to the table for a coffee or a bookshelf where you can move it around like an enchanted tool.
The V10 is powered by a 7-cell energy-dense Lithium-ion battery that produces energy that lasts for 60 minutes. The advanced whole-machine filter system traps allergens, then releases cleaner air into your home. Its cleaning head is specially designed and drives bristles of nylon that are stiff and deep into carpets to trap large dust and crumbs. It has three suction modes to match the task being performed. It is able to swiftly change from floor vacuum to handheld vacuum, and vice versa.
The model also comes with an accessory dock that can charge to 100% in about 3.5 hours and offers easy access to two attachments and a Wand clip. This is a big improvement over older Dysons, which require a lengthy charge and are a pain to store.
The main drawback of the V10 is its short run time. The tests conducted by CR show that its advertising claims of up to 60 minutes are a bit misleading. This is a standard, not exceptional, battery-powered vacuum's run time. This is still enough to clean most of a typical-sized home, but not quite long enough to clean every area (though the second time around usually can be effective). This model has its own advantages however: it's lighter and more maneuverable than older Dysons cordless models and its ability to remote vacuum cleaner is significantly better on carpets with low pile.
4. iRobot Roomba 694"
One of iRobot's most popular robot vacuums, the 694 is an entry-level model that's a great option for those who don't wish to spend too much on a robot. It was able to pick up the majority of types of debris and sizes during our tests and would often go over the same area many times for an extensive clean. Its flat front design allows it to reach corners and edges of walls.
Its navigation system is smart and uses iAdapt to stay clear of obstacles and navigate your home, but it isn't equipped with the mapping capabilities of more sophisticated models such as our top choices such as the i3+ EVO and the j7+ series. As a result, it may get stuck on things like phone cords or low furniture, and it often is power-depleted before returning to its original location.
The Xiaomi Mi best robot vacuum for tile floors vacuum is superior to the Roomba 694 in all aspects, as it has fewer parts that require regular cleaning and is equipped with an allergen-trapping HEPA filter, has lower recurring costs, comes with more advanced automation capabilities and is better at maneuvering itself. The eufy RoboVac X8 is superior to the Roomba 694 for a variety of reasons, since it has a longer battery life, has the ability to alter its suction power mode on its own, comes with physical boundary strips, and is controlled by your smartphone's voice assistant. It also feels better-built and has a more powerful motor, and performs notably better on bare floors and carpets with low pile, while providing a wider array of automation features.
5. Samsung Jet Bot AI+
Samsung is a household name in home electronics. It's no surprise, then, that they are also among the top rated robot vacuum producers of robot vacuums and mop. Jet Bot AI+ has an advanced onboard technology that allows to navigate and avoid obstacles.

In our tests, the Jet Bot AI+ performed well on hard floors, and it cleaned up 86 percent of dog hair (on carpet). It's also more expensive than the other models we tried, which might be a deal-breaker for some shoppers.

The app makes it possible to steer the robot sweeper manually when needed. For instance, my living room rug has a darkly-colored border that can make it difficult for other robots I've tried. The HRV 425BL however continued to travel across the border, without notifying the edge. Also, the ability to program the weekly cleaning schedule is a wonderful time-saving benefit.
