Upgrades to items can be used to increase the stats of an item. Depending on the upgrade type it can raise an item's Mark level or Rarity and boost additional stats.

Upgrading equipment in The War Within requires a specified number of Flightstones and Crests and each item has an upgrade track. Each upgrade increases the cost of the next one by a specific amount.

Item Level

When an item upgrading gets upgraded, its stats are increased in value. This is the sum of all of an item's upgraded perks (attack magic attack and defense). Upgrades to items can be costly, depending on the upgrader and what kind of upgrade you decide to make. This is due to how many perks need to be replaced in order for the item upgrade to be upgraded.

It can also be used as a gating requirement while queueing for raids, dungeons and scenarios. The average level of the item can be found on the character sheet.

Players can upgrade an item to specific stats or reroll affixes. The possible stat ranges for an item are determined by the level of the item, however every item is guaranteed to have at least 1 stat within the range, unless it's a unique item or a God roll from a raid boss.

This is another aspect that can be modified by adding the option to upgrade the equipment without rerolling the affixes or deciding which stats to increase. As with the base equipment, it will have to be done per item, and the item comparison interface wouldn't display all possible stats simultaneously.

Item Luck

The Luck stat of a player increases the likelihood of locating items, the properties that are generated by loot, and the strength of these properties. It doesn't, however directly affect damage or the ability to upgrade items. It gives players the chance to upgrade their equipment earlier in the game. This is especially advantageous in early game runs because players tend to put defenses and weapon scaling over raw damage gains.

Luck can also increase the likelihood of upgrading items at the Blacksmith. This is not to be confused with the Blacksmith’s overall upgrade chances, which increase with each new level of item. It is also possible to be increased with the use of anti-materials such as the Scroll of Strength and a Jewel of Blessing.

Armor, shields and weapons come with an initial Luck value of 40. These items can be enhanced by golden ingots, spined leather, or oak boards (depending on the item's material type) to grant an additional +40 Luck or to boost the existing Luck of an item up to 140.

Certain items, such as the weapon with Hollow-infused components can also be outfitted to increase the damage of any skill that causes damage by five percent. These items can be purchased in the shop or crafted using the right ingredients.

Item Failure

Upgrades to items are a costly process and not all upgrades will be successful. However, there are some cash shop items that allow players to boost their success rate or prevent themselves from losing an item in the event that the upgrade is unsuccessful.

The rate of success of an upgrade can be seen in the Honing UI. The percentage indicates the probability of successfully upgrading the item. This can be increased by using Additional Materials or Special materials. The chance of success can only be increased by so much, and the likelihood that an upgrade will fail can't be greater than 100%..

The Luck of an item can also influence the effectiveness of an upgrade. Every item has a success rate of 25 percent, and every item with Luck increases the chance of success by five percent.

It is important to note that upgrade items are rendered above the inventory items which means that enchantment glints and other effects can be obstructed by the overlays. If you wish to disable the upgrade overlays, the config option decoration.renderUpgradeOverlays can be set to False in the Item Upgrader CORE client config.
