Both the Q5 and Q7 Max Series get very good scores in our floor tests that test for bare floors and are particularly effective in removing pet hair. However, they do have a few flaws however, which prevent them from being our first choice. One of them is that the Q5's navigation doesn't have AI-powered obstacle avoidance, so it's prone to become entangled in socks and shoes and couldn't navigate tightly packed rooms very well in our tests. It also doesn't come with an image sensor that lets it see the corners of a room.
Still, it's very good, especially if you want to save money on an iRobot Roomba and you have a bare-floored home or office. Plus, it's very quiet and you can use it when you're at work or school. It doesn't have the edge-to-edge floor vacuuming feature that's available in the more expensive iRobot Roomba X30. It's also less effective at mopping, relying on disposable wet wipes that don't stay on well and aren't able to take on dried-on debris. The Q5 comes with a self-emptying cradle however. If you need to clean the mopping pad, it can be swapped for a wet one in just a few seconds.

The iRobot Roomba X30 is a compact elegant vacuum cleaner that also has the ability to sweep floors. Its agile navigation and intelligent cleaning maps make it quick to clean and effective at tackling larger particles like pet hair. It also comes with strong suction and an automatic bin for emptying. It's the best robot vacuum for carpets, but it isn't as efficient as some of its competitors in deep cleaning.
This highly efficient combination vacuum and mop uses advanced sensor technology to dodge obstacles and pet waste, and it learns the layout of your home over time to ensure more efficient cleaning. You can modify the schedule of cleaning and even customize zones using the app that is well-designed. It has a battery lifespan that is comparable to other models.
When the X30 Ultra is in a carpeted area, you can instruct it to remove and extend its mops. This can help avoid cross contamination. The flex arm is great for getting under low-lying furniture and along baseboards. This is a feature that we haven't seen on other robot vacuum/mop combination.

With an elegant circular design that looks more like a normal Roomba than the competition's boxy units, this mop and robot vacuum is one of the most attractive designs in our evaluations. iRobot's latest flagship model also happens to be its smartest and has advanced features like Enhanced Dirt Detection Technology as well as future compatibility with Matter (another company's robot vacuum cleaners best that can autonomously wash mop pads).
It's also the only robotic vacuum or mop that scored a perfect 10 out of 10 in our tests. This is due to a mix of high-tech sensors, including a structured light system, camera, and a variety of lasers. The X40 Ultra is also the only robot we tested that is fully self-refill and empty its base station and boasts an its own self-cleaning mop pads.
The X40 as with other iRobot products, is simple to operate. It has an intuitive mobile application interface, and it integrates with Amazon Alexa and Apple HomeKit. The only issue is that the X40 still a noisy unit. This could be a problem in the mornings prior to work or during the night when you are trying to fall asleep.
It's also a bit costly, but not as much as the Ecovacs S8 MaxV Ultra or Roborock S8 Omni, which are both equally powerful and more attractive. If you're willing with a bit more noise and some extra cost this is a powerful two-in-one that will satisfy most people.

The L20 Ultra is a hands-free cleaning machine, similar to Ecovacs' top-of-the-range X2 Omni or Roborock's S8 Pro Ultra. It has a multifunction dock which automatically emptys the bin of the vacuum, refills the water tank, and washes and drys the mop pads.
The smart robot employs the combination of LIDAR and structured light to map out floor plans and spot obstacles, making it more efficient than some of its premium competitors. It also comes with a front-mounted camera for real-time detection of hazards but this wasn't completely foolproof in our tests, and was often confused with obstructions or power cords.
Its vacuum has a suction maximum of 7,000 Pascals which is more than enough to finish the job. It also has "Intelligent Dirt Detection", which regulates how hard the vacuum works and adjusts the frequency of cleaning for different areas of the home depending on how dirty they are.
For bigger homes it's recommended to choose a model with spot or zone cleaning robot mop and vacuum modes that allow you to instruct the robot to clean a specific area of your home via the app or via voice commands. A stairway mode is beneficial if you have lot furniture. Additionally, a recharge and resume function that allows your robot vacuum to continue where it left off is great for busy families.
5. iRobot Roomba RX3
The RX3 is a smarter cleaner than you might expect from its price tag. It is a great job cleaning, removing 55% of debris in our tests (it was second only to the Roomba Q5 Pro). It also mopses using one pad and a reciprocating movement that cleans better that most of the robot mop cleaners that we've tested. It's self-sufficient too, with a full-featured application and a self-emptying, washable base.
The iRobot app is designed to guide you through the mapping process that collects data on your floorplan, as well as any "no go" areas that you have marked on the map. It can be used to create cleaning schedules or organize an automatic spot-clean. You can also use it to prioritize your dirtiest areas for greater efficiency. The app also provides access to a host of features like seasonal suggestions, custom maps and advanced settings for your cleaning.
