The Best Robot Hoover

The best robot hoover can clean and mop without requiring your attention, and it will leave your floors clean. Its affordable price and high-end features (such as dirt detectors) are both positives.

Make sure you regularly inspect your robot vacuum cleaner's brushes for tangled hair and large debris, and wash them when required. Certain models also automatically empty the onboard dust bin and place it in an additional bin at the bottom. This reduces the amount fine dust released into the air.

1. Roomba Q5 pro

The Q5 Pro and its sibling the more expensive Q7 Max Series, are among the most powerful robot vacuums we've examined. They feature top-of-the-line motors that can pull up to 5,500 Pascals of suction force. And, like other premium iRobot models (including the top pick) they employ smart mapping technology to design detailed floor plans and avoid household obstacles such as cords and furniture legs. The robots also come with the feature of Carpet Boost that increases its power when it senses dirt on the carpet.

Both the Q5 as well as the Q7 Max Series get very high scores on our floor tests that test for bare floors They're also particularly adept in removing pet hair. However, they do have several flaws that prevent them from being our top pick. One of the flaws of the Q5 is its navigation system doesn't include AI-powered obstacle avoidance. It's therefore prone to become stuck on shoes and socks and could not navigate rooms with lots of people well in our tests. It also doesn't have an image sensor that lets it see the corners of a room.

It's still a great option, especially if you want to save money on an Roomba from iRobot and have a mostly unfinished home or office. Plus, it's very quiet and can work while you're at work or going to school. The only thing it lacks that you can't find in the more expensive iRobot Roomba X30 is edge-to-edge vacuuming on bare floors. It's also less effective in mopping. It relies on disposable wet wipes, which don't stick well and isn't able to handle dried-on debris. The Q5 has a self-emptying cradle, however. And, if you need to, you can switch the mopping pad to dry ones in just a few minutes.

2. iRobot Roomba X30

The iRobot Roomba X30 is a compact, sleek vacuum cleaner that also has the ability to sweep floors. Its intelligent cleaning maps as well as nimble navigation make it easy to clean, and efficient in tackling larger particles such as pet hair. It also has a self-emptying bin with powerful suction and support for virtual boundaries. It's the best robot hoover for carpets, although it isn't as efficient as some of its competitors in deep cleaning robot mop and vacuum.

This high-performance vacuum and mops utilizes sensors that help it stay clear of obstacles and pet waste. It also learns the patterns of your home over time and provide better cleaning. The app lets you modify zones and alter the cleaning schedule. Its battery life is average compared to similar models.

You can instruct the X30 Ultra to remove its mops and to extend them when in a carpeted area which prevents cross-contamination. The flex arm can be utilized to reach under furniture that is low and along baseboards. It's not as efficient on the washboard as our other Editors' Choice Picks, the Ecovacs Ozmo N8Pro+ and the iRobot Combo j9+.

During tests, the X30 Ultra was the fastest robot vacuum/mop that could complete an entire home, and it did so with only 66 percent of its battery left. It did a decent cleaning job on various floors and rooms with different flooring types including certain area rug. Its obstacle detection was excellent and it stayed clear of fake dog turds and socks, shoes and bundles cables.

It's more expensive than iRobot Combo v9+ or iRobot Roomba j9+ but has superior suction and an onboard bin that automatically empties into the base. It also supports voice commands using Amazon Alexa and Google Assistant. It can clean the floor even after it has vacuumed. This is a feature that we haven't seen on other robot vacuum/mop combination.

3. Roomba X40 from iRobot

The robot autonomous vacuum and mop combination has a sleek, circular look that looks much like a Roomba model than the boxy models from the competitors. It's among our most appealing looking robot vacuums. The latest model from iRobot is also among its most advanced. It has advanced features, like Enhanced Dirt Detection and future compatibility (another company’s robot that can wash mop pads on its own).

It's also the only robot vacuum/mop that scored the perfect 10/10 out of 10 in our tests. This is thanks to the combination of modern sensors, including a restructured light system, camera, and a variety of lasers. The X40 Ultra is also the only robot we tested that can fully autonomously refill and empty its base station and boasts an the industry's highest suction of 12,000Pa and self-cleaning mop pads.

The X40, like other iRobot products, is easy to use. It has an intuitive mobile application interface, and it integrates with Amazon Alexa and Apple HomeKit. The only drawback is that the X40 still a loud unit. This could be a concern in the mornings before work, or at night when you're trying to sleep.

It's also a bit costly, but not as expensive as the Ecovacs MaxV Ultra or the Roborock S8 Omni, which are both equally powerful and more attractive. If you're willing with a little more noise and a little more cost this is a capable two-in-one that should please almost everyone.

iRobot L20 Ultra

The L20 Ultra is a top-of-the-range robot vacuum and mop, with a variety of sophisticated features to help you get rid of your chores. The L20 Ultra is a hands-free cleaner like Ecovacs top-of-the-line X2 Omni or Roborock's S8 Pro Ultra. It comes with a multi-function dock that will automatically emptys the vacuum's bin, refills the water tank, and washes and dry the mop pads.

The smart robot employs an array of LIDAR and structured light to map out floor plans and spot obstacles, navigating more intelligently than some of its premium rivals. It also has a camera mounted on the front for real-time detection of hazards, although this wasn't quite foolproof in our testing and was often confused by power cords or other obstructions.

Its vacuum cleaner has the capacity to suction up to 7,000 Pascals which is more than sufficient to do the job. It also features "Intelligent Dirt Detection", which regulates how hard the vac works and alters the frequency of cleaning for different areas of the home depending on the degree of dirt they tend to be.

If you have a bigger home, it's worth selecting a model with a spot or zone cleaning mode. This allows you to inform the robot of which area of your home must be cleaned by using the app or voice command. A stairway mode is useful if you own a number of furniture. For families with busy schedules, a recharge function and resume feature that permits your robot vacuum to pick up where it left off could be extremely useful.

5. iRobot Roomba RX3

The RX3 is more intelligent than its price would suggest. It does a stellar job vacuuming, removing 55% of the debris we found in our tests (it was second only to the Roomba Q5 Pro). It also mops using one pad and a reciprocating movement which is cleaner than the majority mop cleaners for robots that we've tested. It's also self-sufficient with a fully-featured application, and a self emptying base that is washable.

The well-designed iRobot app will guide you through an initial mapping session that collects data about your floorplan and any "no-go" areas you have marked on the map. It can be used to create cleaning schedules, arrange a spot clean or to prioritise your dirtiest rooms for better performance. The app also gives access to a variety of options, including seasonal suggestions, custom maps, and advanced settings for your cleaning.

It also has the ability to reach corners and under furniture more easily because its shape is more rectangular. It has an impressive 8,000 Pascal suction, as well as sophisticated combs that remove pet hair. And you can set up a spot cleaning that scours a specific area.

The Miele Scout RX3 Home Vision HD is a more sleek more affordable alternative to iRobot Roomba. It's got a more attractive, Dolce & Gabbana-esque design and its twin cameras resemble cute eyes. It does a good job vacuuming, but it is more susceptible to getting caught on low thresholds and is a bit louder than the other top robotic cleaner and mop vacuums we've tested. It also has a less user-friendly app and a tiny base station that doesn't double as a bin for emptying.
