1. Roomba Q5 Pro
The Q5 Pro, and its more expensive sibling, the Q7 Max Series are among the most powerful robotic vacuums we've tested. They are equipped with top-of-the-line motors which can produce up to 5,500 Pascals of suction force. Similar to other iRobots that are premium (including the most powerful model) they utilize smart mapping to produce precise floor plans and eliminate household obstacles such as cords and furniture leg. The robots also come with the feature of Carpet Boost which boosts its power when it senses dirt on the carpet.
Both the Q5 and the Q7 Max Series get very good scores in our bare floor tests, and they're particularly adept in cleaning pet hair. They do have some flaws however, which prevent them from being our top choice. One of the weaknesses of the Q5 is that its navigation system does not have AI-powered obstacles avoidance. It's thus susceptible to get stuck on shoes and socks and couldn't navigate densely packed rooms very well during our tests. Also, it doesn't have an image sensor that lets it see the corners of a room.
However, it's a good choice to consider, particularly if you're looking to save money on an Roomba from iRobot, and you have a bare-floored home or office. It's also very quiet and operates while you are at work or in school. It doesn't have the edge-to-edge floor vacuuming feature that's offered in the more expensive iRobot Roomba X30. And it's less effective at mopping, using disposable wet wipes that don't hold on well and aren't able to take on dried-on debris. The Q5 has self-emptying docks, however. And, if you have to, you can switch the mopping pad to dry ones in just a few minutes.
2. iRobot Roomba
The iRobot Roomba X30 packs impressive mopping and vacuuming capabilities into an elegant, compact package. The flex arm can be used to reach beneath furniture that is low and along baseboards. However, it doesn't have the same level of washboard performance as our other Editors' Choice picks, the Ecovacs Deebot Ozmo N8 Professional+ and the iRobot Combo j9+.
During testing, X30 Ultra was the fastest robot cleaner with mop vacuum/mop to clean an entire home with just 66 percent of its battery remaining. It did a great cleaning job on a variety of floors and rooms with different flooring types, including certain area carpets. Its obstacle detection was excellent, and it avoided fake dog turds and socks, shoes and bundles cables.
It's more expensive than the iRobot Combo v9+ and iRobot Roomba j9+, however it offers superior suction, an onboard dustbin that automatically emptys into its base, and it supports voice commands using Amazon Alexa and Google Assistant. It can even clean the floor after vacuuming it, something hasn't been seen in other robot vacuum/mop combos.
3. IRobot Roomba X40

The latest model from iRobot is its most advanced, with advanced features including Enhanced Dirt Detection Technology and future compatibility with Matter (another company's robot that can wash its own mop pads).
It's the only robot vacuum/mop that has an exemplary 10/10 in our testing, thanks to a combination of high-tech sensors, which include cameras, a structured light system and multiple lasers. The X40 Ultra is also the only robot we tested that can completely autonomously refill and empty its base station and it has an industry-leading 12,000Pa suction and self-cleaning mop pads.
As with other iRobot models as well, the X40 is easy to use, offering a simple mobile app interface, and integration with Amazon Alexa, Apple HomeKit, and Google Assistant. The only downside is that the X40 still a loud unit. This can be a concern in the mornings before work, or during the night when you're trying to fall asleep.
It's also a bit expensive, though it's not as pricey as the Ecovacs X2 Omni or the Roborock S8 MaxV Ultra, both of which are equally capable and look better. If you're willing to live some more volume and some additional cost, this is a very capable two-in-one that should please almost everyone.

The smart robot makes use of LIDAR and structured lighting to draw out floor plans and spot obstacles. It is more efficient in its navigation than its competitors with premium features. It also has a camera mounted on the front for real-time hazard detection, although this wasn't quite reliable in our tests and was occasionally confused by power cords or other obstructions.
The vacuum cleaner comes with the capacity to suction up to 7,000 Pascals which is more than enough to accomplish the task. It also has a feature known as "Intelligent Dirt Detection", which regulates the power of the vacuum and adjusts the frequency of cleaning for various areas of the house depending on how dirty the areas are.
For larger houses, it's worth opting for a model with zone or spot cleaning modes that let you tell the robot to clean a particular area of your house via the app or voice controls. A stair mode can be useful if you have a large furniture. For families with busy schedules recharge functions and resume feature that allows your robot vacuum to continue from where it left off could be extremely useful.

The RX3 is a cleaner with more intelligence than you would imagine from its price. It's a pro at vacuuming, removing 55% of the debris we found in our tests (it was second only to the Roomba Q5 Pro). It also mops with one pad that has an oscillating motion that is cleaner than the other mop cleaners for robots we've tested. And it's highly self-sufficient with a full-featured app and an auto-emptying, washable base.
The well-designed iRobot application guides you through an initial mapping session that collects data about your floorplan and any "no-go" areas you set on the map. You can use it to make cleaning schedules, plan an area for cleaning or to sort out your rooms with the most dirt for better performance. The app also grants access to many options, including seasonal suggestions, custom maps and advanced settings for your cleaning.
