Like other premium iRobots (including the top model), they use smart mapping to create detailed floorplans and avoid household obstacles like cords and furniture legs. The robots also have the feature of Carpet Boost that increases its power when it senses dirt on the carpet.
Both the Q5 and Q7 Max Series get very excellent scores in our tests on floors that are bare, and they're particularly adept in removing pet hair. There are some issues, however, that prevent them from being our first option. One of the Q5's shortcomings is its navigation system doesn't have AI-powered obstacles avoidance. It's therefore prone to get stuck on shoes and socks, and it couldn't navigate through rooms with a lot of people efficiently during our tests. It also doesn't come with cameras that let it see the corners of an area.
Still, it's very good, especially if you want to save money on an Roomba from iRobot, and you have a mostly unfinished home or office. It's also extremely quiet and can be used when you're at work or at school. The only thing it's missing that you won't find in the pricier iRobot Roomba X30 is edge-to-edge vacuuming on bare floors. And it's less effective at mopping, as it relies on disposable wet wipes that don't hold on very well and can't deal with dried-on debris. The Q5 has a self-emptying dock, though. And, if you need to change the mopping pad for dry ones in a matter of seconds.
2. IRobot Roomba X30
The iRobot Roomba X30 packs impressive vacuuming and mopping capabilities into an elegant, compact package. Its agile navigation and intelligent cleaning maps make it simple to clean and efficient at taking on larger particles, such as pet hair. It also features a powerful suction and an automatic hoover bin for emptying. It's the most efficient robot hoover for carpets, although it lags behind some competitors in deep cleaning.
This high-performance vacuum and mop utilizes sensor technology that can avoid obstacles and pet waste. It also learns the patterns of your home over time to ensure cleaner and more efficient cleaning. The app lets you set up zones and modify the cleaning schedule. Its battery life is average compared to similar models.
When the X30 Ultra is in a carpeted area, you can instruct it to pull back and extend its mop. This can help avoid cross-contamination. Its flex arm is also perfect to get under furniture with low levels and along baseboards. However, it's not equipped with the same level of washboard performance as our other Editors' Choice picks, the Ecovacs Deebot Ozmo N8 Professional+ and the iRobot Combo j9+.
During testing, X30 Ultra was the quickest robot vacuum/mop that could complete the task of cleaning a whole home, with 66 per cent of its battery remaining. It did a great cleaning job on different rooms and floors with various flooring types including some area rug. Its obstacle detection was superb and it stayed clear of fake dog turds, socks, shoes, and bundles of cables.
It's a bit more expensive than iRobot Combo v9+ or iRobot Roomba j9+ but has superior suction and an onboard bin that automatically empty into the base. It also supports voice commands using Amazon Alexa and Google Assistant. It even cleans the floor after it vacuums it, something hasn't been seen in other robot vacuum/mop combos.
3. iRobot Roomba X40
With a sleek circular design that looks more like a regular Roomba than the competition's compact models this robot vacuum and mop combo is one of the most attractive looking models in our evaluations. The latest model from iRobot is also the most intelligent. It has advanced features such as Enhanced Dirt Detection and future compatibility (another company's robot that can wash mop pads autonomously).
It's also the only robot vacuum/mop that scored the perfect 10/10 out of 10 in our tests. This is thanks to a combination high-tech sensors including a structured lighting system, a camera and multiple lasers. The X40 Ultra was the only robot we tested that could refill and empty its basestation on its own. It also boasted an industry-leading suction of 12,000Pa as well as self-cleaning mop mops.
As with other iRobot models, the X40 is user-friendly, offering an intuitive mobile app interface and integration with Amazon Alexa, Apple HomeKit and Google Assistant. The only drawback is that the X40 still a noisy unit. This could be a concern in the mornings before work or during the night when you are trying to fall asleep.
It's also a bit expensive, but not as much as the Ecovacs S8 MaxV Ultra or the Roborock S8 Omni, which are both equally powerful and more attractive. If you're willing to live with a bit more noise and some additional cost, this is a very powerful two-in-one that will please almost everyone.
iRobot L20 Ultra
The L20 Ultra is a top-of-the-range robot vacuum and mop (visit the following website page) with a lot of advanced features to help you forget about your chores. The L20 Ultra is a hands-free cleaning machine, similar to Ecovacs the top of the line X2 Omni or Roborock's S8 Pro Ultra. It has a multifunction dock which automatically empty the vacuum's bin and fills up the water tank, and cleans and dries mop pads.
The smart robot employs an array of LIDAR and structured light to map out floor plans and spot obstacles, making it more efficient than its top competitors. It also comes with a front-mounted camera for real-time hazard detection, although this wasn't quite 100% foolproof during our tests and was occasionally confused by power cords or other obstructions.
The vacuum cleaner has an maximum suction of 7,000 Pascals which is more than sufficient to do the job. It also features "Intelligent Dirt Detection", which regulates the intensity at which the vacuum works and also adjusts the frequency of cleaning for different areas of your home according to the degree of dirt they are.
For larger houses, it's worth opting for one with zone or spot cleaning modes that allow you to instruct the robot to clean one specific area of your home by using the app or voice controls. A stair mode can be useful if you own a number of furniture. Finally a recharge and resume function that lets your robot vacuum take over exactly where it left off is great for busy families.
5. iRobot Roomba RX3
The RX3 is more advanced than its price suggests. It vacuums well and was able to remove 55% of debris in our tests. (It was only second to the Roomba Q5 Pro). It also mopses using a single pad and a reciprocating motion that cleans better that most of the robot mop cleaners that we've tried. It's self-sufficient too, with a full-featured app and a self-emptying, washable base.
The iRobot app is designed to help you navigate the mapping process that collects data on your floorplan and any "no go" areas that you've marked on the map. It can be used to create cleaning schedules, plan the perfect spot for cleaning or prioritize your most filthy rooms for better performance. The app offers a variety of options, including seasonal suggestions, custom mapping and advanced cleaning settings.
Its shape is more rectangular than other robot vacuums, meaning it is able to reach corners and underneath furniture better. It also has strong 8,000 Pascal suction and combs with intelligent technology for pet hair. You can also organize a spot-cleaner which will thoroughly clean a specific area.
The Miele Scout RX3 Home Vision HD is a more sleek and less expensive alternative to the iRobot Roomba. It's got a more attractive, Dolce & Gabbana-esque design and its twin cameras resemble cute eyes. It's good at vacuuming, but is more prone to be caught by low thresholds and is a bit more noisy than the other top robot vacuums we've tried. It also has a less intuitive app and a tiny base station that doesn't double as an emptying bin.
