Side-by-Side
The majority of lightweight double pushchairs (visit this link) we've tested are side-by-side models and are best double buggy suited for kids who can sit up unassisted because they tend to lack car seat integration. However they do have a few advantages. Thule Urban Glide 2 Double and the Baby Trend Sit 'N Stand Double are both top choices that have recline that can be adjusted in both seats, a large canopy and padded 5-point harnesses. Side-by-side lightweight double pushchairs aren't 100% foolproof, howeverwhen your children are at the same age or at the same stage, they might be fighting over who gets to ride in which seat. If they're at different heights then it is possible that a tandem design is best for them, as it allows them to face each other.
Tandem
While side-by-side models are better suited for siblings of the same age, tandem lightweight double pushchairs have their own charms. They can take a bigger car seat, and some have convertible seats or an additional carrycot that is located in the middle. They are generally more spacious and easier to access and exit from, although their baskets are typically smaller than those of single buggies. Many feature larger canopies, peekaboo windows and even padded leg cushions.
The iCandy Peach tandem is another great example of a lightweight tandem that provides excellent value. The fabric is a little less premium than some of our other top-rated doubles however, it still looks and feels great and is very user-friendly. One of the most impressive things about it is its single-handed fold. Although it does require practice, Kirstie in our Lab said it's "genius". The carrycot is not foldable when it is attached. However, the mechanism to attach and remove the carrycot is easy and quick.
Tandem lightweight double single pushchair pushchairs will generally make more precise turns than side-by-side models, but they can be more difficult to drive on bumps and uneven surfaces. They can also be slightly slower to pick up speed and are heavier to move, which could put strain on your back.
A convertible double buggy is another alternative. It is initially a single but you can also add adapters to convert it into a double. It can also include a second seat, carrycot or both in the front. The children can share a seat. Some of them also offer the option of adding a buggy board, which can help an older child keep up with younger siblings.

We were impressed by the way this iCandy model folds into itself using a single-hand mechanism that's really simple to master. Although it's heavier than other single-to-double pushchairs in this review, home tester Karolina claimed that it feels extremely maneuverable, even when she had two toddlers and a carrycot inside.
The seat can be used with the parent facing and you can purchase additional accessories for this stroller, such as the Roma Gemini carrycots (PS100 each), which are ideal for infants. There are numerous options for reclining the seats and the front seat is adjustable in different positions and the back seat having a reclining option.
The biggest drawback with this type of buggy is that it tends to be wider overall than side-by-side doubles and makes it difficult to maneuver through doorways, and can be tricky to manoeuvre up and down kerbs. However the suspension and wheels on these models generally do a good job of handling paved surfaces, and the fact that they're lighter than the side-by-sides means you can still find plenty of storage space. It's important to keep in mind that these strollers aren't as efficient in walking through the narrow aisles of supermarkets and can struggle to handle a large amount of shopping. It's a little easier to turn them around even on the smallest of curving paths but it can be difficult to turn them around on a straight path. Some are also easier to turn than others, such as the Thule Urban Glide 2 Double and the Baby Trend Sit N' Stand Double, for instance.
Convertible
The great thing about convertible double pushchairs is that they can adapt to the changing family needs. They are typically single buggies, but come with adapters to add an additional seat, carrycot or (in certain cases) an automobile seat to the frame. Some can even convert back to a single buggie when your child grows older and begins to walk more or wants to ride on buggy boards.
This stylish tri-fold double stroller sale stroller can be described as one of the lightest on our list. It can carry up to 40lbs per child, and includes a storage basket between the seats. It also has a convenient parent cup holder and an enormous easy-to-access basket. However, they pointed out that the backs of the seats have pockets that aren't large enough to hold much more than a cell phone and keys.

This versatile tandem is the most popular of our home testers because it is easy to maneuver and has an enormous shopping basket that can be accessed from both seats when they are in the parent-facing position. It is a breeze to move around due to its light weight (about the equivalent of some single pushchairs). Its reversible seats mean that you can switch them around to face either direction, and the clever method by which it connects a second seat or riding board to the rear is appreciated by many. Parents also appreciated the fact that it can accommodate infant carriers and car seats from various brands, including those that don't normally fit in other double buggies.
