Top Rated Robot Vacuums
A robot vacuum can keep your floors clean enough to decrease the frequency of hoovering manually. Choose one that has an easy navigation, can sweep corners and stairs, and has a large dust bin that needs emptying only periodically.
There are models that clean and charge on their own which can be essential for those who have pets or kids. Many of the top performers in our tests offer decent obstacle-avoiding capabilities.
1. Roomba iRobot i3+ from iRobot EVO
The i3+ EVO and its sibling the i3 EVO, are identical robots, but they differ in that the i3+ has self-emptying capabilities. This makes the i3+ an excellent choice for people who want an automated, hands-free cleaning experience, but aren't afraid of having to empty their dust bin manually as it gets full.
Both robots are adept in removing dirt and dust particles on hard floors and carpets and are able to maneuver around furniture and other obstacles. iAdapt navigation software creates smart maps of your home that assist the i3+ to navigate and clean efficiently. The i3+ does not have the same obstacle avoidance capabilities as the i7+ or other top-best rated robot vacuum robots that we test. It could get stuck on power cords or socks and have difficulty navigating between different surfaces like hardwood and rug.
iRobot suggests cleaning the area in which the i3+ EVO vacuums prior to using it. This includes putting away any toys or other items it may encounter. It's also a good idea to keep the dustbin and filter clean so they do not become blocked by dirt. When the i3+ EVO's internal bin is full or the battery is depleted it goes back to its docking station and automatically emptying its trash into the station's external dustbin and then resumes cleaning the area where it started. The i3+ EVO's battery lasts for approximately an hour and a half continuous use, and it takes around three hours to recharge.
2. Roomba from iRobot
The iRobot Roomba i7+ is the top model in the iRobot flagship line and has the most up-to-date features. It is self-charging and self-navigating. However, the most important feature is its self-emptying bin. This eliminates the need for regular maintenance.
The Roomba i7+ is able to remember up to 10 floor plans and their names using Imprint Smart Mapping, which allows it to map rooms so it can clean them more efficiently. It also integrates with the iRobot Home app to let you schedule cleaning tasks and direct your robot by voice or through the app.
In our testing the i7+ was faster and more maneuverable than our top choice and the eufy RoboVac G30, and it removed large chunks of pet hair from all surface types including carpeting. Its greatest advantage over the Eufy is the self-emptying bin which eliminates major sources of maintenance and reduces recurring cost.
We were also impressed by the i7+'s integration with Amazon Alexa and Google Assistant AI services, which we used to instruct the robot to begin, stop or pause its cleaning routines, move itself around the room, and even vacuum the area. The iRobot Home App made it easy to connect the i7+ with these services. Once connected to these services, we were able communicate with the i7+ using voice commands, such as "Hey Alexa, vacuum the master bedroom." The iRobot Home App also offers options for managing i7+ settings and monitoring the performance.
3. Dyson Cyclone V10
In a world filled with vacuums that are cordless and are like minivans and buses, this tiny Dyson model feels like an old-fashioned sports car. It has the power and features to replace a stand-up vacuum for most households and can fit perfectly next to the coffee table or the bookshelf, that you can spin around like a magic device.
The V10 is powered by a 7-cell, energy-dense lithium-ion battery that produces continuous, non-fading power for 60 minutes. Its advanced whole-machine filter system traps allergens and releases cleaner air back into your home. Its specialized cleaning head drives bristles of nylon that are stiff and deep into carpets to trap large dust and crumbs. It has three suction modes that can be adjusted to suit the task. It quickly converts from floor vac to handheld vacuum and back again.
This model comes with a dock which charges the Dyson to 100% in 3.5 hours. It also offers an easy access to two attachments and an Wand. This is a huge improvement over earlier Dysons which require a long charge and are difficult to store.
The main drawback of the V10 is its short run time. Its claims on the market that it can last up to 60 minutes of running time are misleading as CR's tests have shown. This is an average, not an exceptional, time for the battery-powered cordless vacuum. It's enough time to sweep the typical home, but not enough to get into every corner. (A second time is usually sufficient). That's not to say this model doesn't have its advantages It's lighter and more agile than older cordless Dysons and its vacuuming performance is significantly better on carpets with low pile.
4. iRobot Roomba 694
The 694 is a standard robot auto vacuum cleaner that's a great choice for those who don't have a lot of money to invest in an expensive robot broom. It's capable of sucking up a variety of debris types and sizes during our tests, and it often goes over the same areas multiple times to ensure a thorough clean. The flat front of the unit allows it to reach into corners and along the edges of walls which is a nice addition.
Its smart navigation system uses iAdapt technology to avoid obstacles and navigate your home. It's not equipped with the capabilities for mapping of more advanced models, like our top picks, the i3+EVO and J7+ Series. It may get stuck on phone cords or low furniture and is often unable to supply power before returning to its home base.
The Xiaomi Mi robot vacuum is superior to the Roomba 694 in many ways because it has fewer components that require regular maintenance It also comes with an allergen-trapping HEPA filter, incurs lower recurring costs, comes with more advanced automation capabilities and is more efficient in moving itself. It also has a bigger dustbin and can charge faster.
The eufy RoboVac X8 is superior to the Roomba 694 in most purposes, as it has a better battery life, has the ability to alter the suction power mode by hand and has physical boundary strips, and is operated by your phone's voice assistant. It's also more durable, has a stronger motor, and is more effective on floors with low pile and bare.
5. Samsung Jet Bot AI+
Samsung is a household name in the field of home electronics. It's not a surprise that they are also among the top manufacturers of robot vacuums and mop. Jet Bot AI+ has the most advanced onboard technology for navigation and obstacle avoidance.
The app offers a variety of options to personalize your robotic vacuum cleaner on sale cleaner, including virtual barriers, mopping water levels and behavior customization docking frequency settings and more. The app is simple to learn and use, just like other Samsung devices.
In our testing, the Jet Bot AI+ excelled on hard floors, and also handled dog hair (on carpet) quite well, clearing up 86 percent of it. It didn't do very well in avoiding taller objects like cords or socks. This was disappointing. It's also more expensive than the other models that we tested, and this could be a deal breaker for some shoppers.
The app allows you to access the camera onboard of the smart vacuum. You can also set up live streaming from the robot's area of cleaning. This feature lets you keep track of your pets or the kids if you're away from home. The dustbin and the filter can be cleaned for an easy, quick clean-up. The Jet Bot AI+ comes with self-emptying clean stations, which helps keep the robot's bin clear and improves suction power.
6. Black & Decker Robot Vacuum
Black and Decker robots are designed specifically for hard flooring. They feature an extra-wide cleaning path and an extra-large dustbin that holds 2X more debris than other models to keep the area free of debris for the longest period of time. Additionally, they come with two side sweepers that clean around edges and corners. The POWERSERIES Extreme model comes with AutoSense technology, which can tell whether it's picking up surface litter or embedded dirt and then automatically adjusts its power level. It also includes a smart application that lets you browse the virtual map and remote control vacuum cleaner the functions and schedules. Additionally, you can track the status of the vacuum's battery and then return it to its dock for charging at the touch of the button. The app lets you alter the LED lights on the top of the vacuum to discern where it is focusing or if it has gotten stuck.
The app also makes it easy to manually steer the robot in the event of need. For example, my living room rug has a darkly colored border that tends to make it difficult for other robots I've tested. However the HRV 425BL continued to move across the border, but it didn't register it as an incline. The ability to create the weekly cleaning schedule is a great time-saving convenience.
