It's therefore prone to become stuck on shoes and socks and could not navigate rooms with lots of people well in our tests. It also doesn't have a camera that can see around corners.
However, it's a good choice to consider, particularly if you're looking to save money on a Roomba from iRobot and have a mostly bare-floor home or office. It's also extremely quiet and works while you are at work or in school. The only thing it's missing that you don't get in the pricier iRobot Roomba X30 is edge-to-edge vacuuming of floors with no floor. And it's less effective at mopping, as it relies on disposable wet wipes that don't hold on well and aren't able to deal with dried-on debris. The Q5 has self-emptying docks, however. If you want to, you can switch the mopping pad to a dry one in just a few seconds.

It's also the only robotic vacuum/mop to score a perfect 10 out of 10 in our testing. This is thanks to a combination high-tech sensors including a structured light system, camera and multiple lasers. The X40 Ultra is also the only robot in our tests that can fully autonomously refill and empty its base station and it has an the industry's highest suction of 12,000Pa and self-cleaning mop pads.
Like other iRobot models, the X40 is user-friendly, with an intuitive mobile app interface and integration with Amazon Alexa, Apple HomeKit, and Google Assistant. The only drawback is that it's an eerily noisy device, which can be a problem if you run it in the morning before work or at night as you attempt to sleep.
It's also somewhat expensive, but it's not as pricey as the Ecovacs Omni or Roborock's S8 MaxV Ultra both of which are equally capable and more attractive. If you're willing with a bit more noise and some additional cost, this is a very powerful two-in-one that will please almost everyone.
