However, unlike the i7+ or other top rated robots we evaluated the i3+ doesn't have any obstacle-avoidance features, so it may get stuck on things such as socks or power cords and may have issues traversing transitions across surfaces like hardwood to rug.

iRobot recommends you clear out areas that the i3+ EVO will vacuum before you use it, and include clearing out any toys or clutter it may come across. It's also recommended to keep the bin and filter clean so that they do not become blocked by dirt. In our tests the i7+ performed more agile and faster than our runner-up, the eufy RoboVac G30, and it removed large chunks of pet hair from all surface types, including carpeting. We were also awestruck by the i7+'s integration with Amazon Alexa and Google Assistant AI services that we used to instruct the robot to begin, stop or pause its cleaning sessions and to move around the room and sweep the area. The process of connecting the i7+ to these services was simple and straightforward using the iRobot Home app. We were able, once connected, to give voice commands to the i7+ such as "Hey Alexa vacuum the master bedroom." The iRobot Home app also provides options to manage the i7+'s settings and monitoring its performance.

3. Dyson Cyclone V10

This tiny Dyson model is a sports car in a sea of vacuums with cords that feel like minivans and buses. It's got the power and features to replace a stand-up vacuum in most households and can fit perfectly next to the coffee table or a bookshelf that you can spin around like a magic wand.

The V10 is powered by a 7-cell high-energy lithium-ion battery that can provide continuous, non-fading power for 60 minutes. The V10's biggest drawback is its short run time. As CR's tests show, its advertising claims of up to 60 minutes are a bit misleading. This is an average and not a remarkable run time for the battery-powered cordless vacuum. It's enough time to clean a typical-sized home but not enough to reach every area. (A second pass is usually sufficient). This model has its own advantages, however: it's lighter and more maneuverable than older Dysons cordless models, and its vacuuming ability is noticeably superior for carpet floors with low pile.

4. iRobot Roomba 694"

The 694 is a standard robot vacuum that's an excellent choice for those who don't have lots of money to invest in an expensive robot. It could pick up most types of debris and sizes during our testing and often went over the same area many times to ensure an extensive clean. Its flat front allows it to reach corners and the edges of walls.

Its smart navigation system uses iAdapt technology to stay clear of obstacles and navigate your home. However, it lacks the ability to map that is found in more advanced models, like our top picks, the i3+EVO and the j7+ Series. It may get stuck on phone cords or furniture and often runs out of power before returning to its original location.
