1. Roomba Q5 pro
The Q5 Pro and its sibling, the pricier Q7 Max Series, are among the most powerful robot vacuums we've tested. They feature motors that are top of the line and can suction up to 5,500 Pascals. Like other top iRobot models (including the top-rated model) they utilize smart mapping technology to create precise floor plans and eliminate household obstacles such as cords and furniture legs. They also have a feature called carpet boost that increases the robot's power when it sees an abundance of dirt on the carpet in order to get it cleaned quickly.
The Q5 and Q7 Max Series both scored very well in our tests on bare floors, and they are particularly adept at cleaning dog hair. However, they do have some flaws that prevent them from being our top pick. One of the Q5's shortcomings is that its navigation system doesn't have AI-powered obstacles avoidance. It's therefore prone to become stuck on shoes and socks and couldn't navigate densely packed rooms very well in our tests. It also doesn't have a camera to see around corners.
Still, it's very good to consider, particularly if you're looking to save money on a iRobot Roomba and you have a mostly unfinished home or office. Plus, it's very quiet and can work when you're at work or at school. The only thing it doesn't have that you won't find in the more expensive iRobot Roomba X30 is edge-to-edge vacuuming on floors that aren't clean. It's also less effective when it comes to mopping. It relies on disposable wet wipes that don't adhere very well and cannot handle dried-on debris. The Q5 does come with an auto-emptying dock, however. And, if you have to change the mopping pad to a dry one in seconds.
2. iRobot Roomba
The iRobot Roomba X30 is a compact, sleek vacuum cleaner that can mop floors. Its smart cleaning maps and nimble navigation make it easy to clean, and effective in dealing with larger particles, like pet hair. It also features a self-emptying bin, powerful suction, and support for virtual boundaries. It's the best automatic vacuum cleaner robotic hoover for carpets, however it's not as good as other hoovers in terms of deep cleaning.

You can modify its cleaning schedule and customize zones using the app that is well-designed. It comes with a battery life that is comparable to other models.
When the X30 Ultra is in a carpeted space, you can tell it to pull back and extend its mops. This will help prevent cross contamination. Its flex arm is also perfect to get under furniture with low levels and along baseboards. It's not as effective on the washboard as our other Editors' Choice Picks, the Ecovacs Ozmo N8Pro+ and the iRobot Combo j9+.
During tests, X30 Ultra was the quickest robot vacuum/mop that could clean an entire home, with 66 per cent of its battery remaining. It did a good cleaning job on a variety of rooms and floors with various kinds of flooring, including certain area rug. Its obstacle detection was top-notch and it swiftly eluded fake dog socks, turds and cables.
It's more expensive than iRobot Combo v9+ or iRobot Roomba j9+ but offers superior suction and an onboard bin that is automatically empty into the base. It also supports voice commands using Amazon Alexa and Google Assistant. It can even clean the floor after vacuuming, a feature that we've not seen on other robotic vacuum/mop combos.
3. IRobot Roomba X40
This robot vacuum and mop combination is sleek and has a circular look that looks much like a Roomba model than the boxy units of the competition. It is one of our most appealing looking robot vacuums. iRobot's latest flagship model also happens to be its smartest, with advanced features including enhanced dirt detection technology and future compatibility with Matter (another company's robot that is able to wash mop pads).
It's also the only robot automatic vacuum cleaner and mop or mop that scored an absolute 10 out of 10 in our evaluations. This is due to a mix of high-tech sensors including a structured light system, camera and multiple lasers. The X40 Ultra was the only robot we tested that could refill and empty its basestation autonomously. It also boasted an industry-leading suction of 12,000Pa as well as self-cleaning mops.
As with other iRobot models like the X40 is user-friendly, with a simple mobile app interface as well as integration with Amazon Alexa, Apple HomeKit and Google Assistant. The only downside is that the X40 is still a loud unit. This could be a problem in the mornings prior to work or at night when you're trying to sleep.
It's also quite expensive but not as much as the Ecovacs MaxV Ultra or Roborock S8 Omni, which are equally powerful and more attractive. This is a dual-purpose vacuum that's very capable however it's more expensive and make more noise.
4. iRobot Roomba L20 Ultra
The L20 Ultra is a top-of-the-range robot vacuum and mop with a lot of advanced features that will let you get rid of your chores. The L20 Ultra is a hands-free cleaning device, similar to Ecovacs' top-of-the-range X2 Omni or Roborock's S8 Pro Ultra. It comes with a multi-function dock that will automatically empty the vacuum's bin and refills the water tank, and washes and drys the mop pads.
The smart robot uses LIDAR and structured lighting to draw out floor plans and spot obstacles. It is more efficient in its navigation than its premium competitors. It also comes with a front-mounted camera for real-time detection of hazards but this was not reliable in our tests and was often confused by power cords or other obstructions.
The vacuum cleaner comes with a maximum suction of 7,000 Pascals which is more than sufficient to complete the task. It also has an option known as "Intelligent Dirt Detection", which regulates the power of the vacuum and adjusts the frequency of cleaning for different areas in the home based on how dirty these areas are.
For larger homes it's recommended to choose a model with zone or spot cleaning modes that let you tell the robot to clean a particular area of your house by using the app or voice controls. If you have lots of furniture, a stair-mode is also a good option. Additionally the recharge and resume feature that lets your robot vacuum pick up right where it left off is ideal for busy families.
iRobot RX3
The RX3 is more advanced than the price suggests. It has a great vacuuming performance and was able to remove 55% of debris in our tests. (It was second to the Roomba Q5 Pro). It also mops with only one pad and a reciprocating movement that is more efficient than most of the mop cleaners with robots that we've tested. It's self-sufficient too, with a fully-featured app as well as an auto-emptying washable base.
The iRobot app is designed to help you navigate the mapping process, which gathers information on your floorplan, as well as any "no go" areas you've marked on the map. You can use it to make cleaning schedules, set up the perfect spot for cleaning or prioritize your most filthy rooms to improve performance. The app also gives access to a host of features like seasonal suggestions, custom maps and advanced settings for your cleaning.
Its shape is more rectangular than most other robot vacuums, which means it can get to corners and under furniture more easily. It features an impressive 8000 Pascal suction as well as sophisticated combs that remove pet hair. You can also organize a spot-cleaner that will thoroughly clean an area.
The Miele Scout RX3 Home Vision HD is a sleeker and cheaper alternative to the iRobot Roomba. It is more appealing in its style, much like Dolce & Gabbana. The twin cameras are designed to resemble cute eyes. It is excellent at vacuuming, however it is more likely to get caught on low thresholds. It is also louder than other top robot vacuums we have test. It also has a less intuitive app and a tiny base station that doesn't double as a bin for emptying.
