Origins
During prehistoric times, the ancestors of modern Koreans lived on hunting and gathering wild food. Around 10,000 years ago they began to cultivate crops such as millet and beans. They also raised livestock, and made furs. They created tribal states in Manchuria and later on the Korean peninsula. They also developed an industry of metalworking, making bronze tools and later iron ones. They traded with other states and introduced celadon papermaking, block printing art styles, as well as a written language to Japan.

The evolution of Korea
The Korean peninsula has been continuously inhabited since Neolithic times. Gojoseon was the first state to be recognized during the first half of 1st millennium BCE. Baekje was the most powerful of these states was diminished by the collapse of Goguryeo (676 CE) leaving only its southern territories in Manchuria and the the western region around Hwanghae Bay. Eastern Buyeo as well as the Gaya confederacy, prospered for a time.
The Unified Silla Kingdom then emerged and the three kingdoms began to cooperate to expand their territories. Silla, with the help of the Chinese, eventually conquered and unified the peninsula in 935.
As Korea enters the post-crisis period its development model appears to be in flux. Creationism in Korea
In South Korea, 26 percent of the population is Christian. The creationists have been successful in promoting their beliefs to this group. A survey from 2009 showed that almost one-third of respondents didn't believe in evolution. Of those who voted, 41% said that there was insufficient evidence from science to support the theory 39% of respondents said that the theory was in contradiction to their religious beliefs and 17% said it was difficult to comprehend. This level of disbelief approaches that in the United States, where a similar percentage of people do not accept that humans evolved from less advanced forms of life.
In the past, the majority of the anti-evolutionist movement in Korea was focused on educating college students and bringing them to Christ. A significant increase in the interest in creation science occurred in the year 1980, when there was a four-day seminar held during the World Evangelization Crusade in Seoul which featured Drs. Henry Morris and Duane Gish of ICR as the keynote speakers. This event was attended by an impressive crowd of professors, scientists, and church leaders.
The success of this event led to the creation of the Korea Association of Creation Research (KACR) on January 31 1981. The inaugural event was widely reported in the national press, including The Korea Times and Chosun Ilbo, and it received wide attention.
KACR began publishing a newsletter titled CREATION. In CREATION, the organization presented its own work and published articles about scientific evidence for creationism. It also translated a number of film strips and slides from ICR as well as a few books on creationism which were published outside of Korea. KACR members taught throughout the nation in universities and churches.
A KACR success was observed at KAIST University in Seoul. Students at KAIST in Seoul were so fascinated by creationism that they raised money and got funding to construct a small museum dedicated to creation on campus.

Changes in South Korea
In the latter half of the nineteenth century and the early 20th century, Korea began to adopt a more Westernized style of life. Wang Geon, a powerful local leader who defeated Gungye in 935 and unified Goryeo, Baekje, and Silla, later incorporated Baekje into Goryeo without a fight as his successor. Wang Geon also introduced fundamental reforms, and strengthened the central government system. This marked the end to the Three Kingdoms Period. The Korean peninsula was later under the control of the Goryeo Dynasty. In the Three Kingdoms Period, Goguryeo Baekje Silla slowly developed into powerful states on the peninsula, and in Manchuria.
