WoW Upgrades - The Item Upgrader

Upgrades will give you a boost in specific stats. Each upgrade boosts the item level by +3. Each upgrade also boosts a random substat.

Upgraded gear is generally more useful, unless the item is not required by nature (like FB sorc shields) or has a high variance in stats (like eth Titan weapons). Upgrades aren't as important for those with higher variance because of the requirement to roll an exact version.

Recycle Points

The item upgrader allows players to upgrade their gear by giving the currency to an NPC. Upgrades can be applied to any kind of armor or weapon. The Item level upgrade used to upgrade items the item will be consumed and cannot be used again. Upgrades can be applied to the enchantments.

You can upgrade your gear anytime by visiting the upgrader in any major city. To keep your gear current it is recommended you visit the upgrader every few weeks.

The cost of upgrading will be based on the current item level of the equipment being upgraded but they will always be less expensive than buying new equipment from other sources. For example upgrading a Benthic chest to 385 ilvl will cost 20 recycle points, while buying a similar item from another player will costs 105.

Valorstones

Upgrades are items that can be used to upgrade weapons, armor, tools, and accessory upgrades. They can be purchased by players from NPCs of item upgraders in a variety of currencies. They can also find them on random treasure lists. Once an upgrade is purchased, it can be applied to any weapon, tool, or armor with a button, which will show an image of the item when it is upgraded if the player has sufficient materials.

The cost of upgrades varies based on the item slot and the current level of the item, with weapons costing more than bracers or gloves, for instance. Each step costs 15 Flightstones plus a specific number of crests. Some upgrades give a discount on the Flightstones. Once an item is upgraded to a certain amount, it can be degraded and sold back to the upgrader for a lower amount of the two currencies.

Many locations offer item upgrader kit upgraders, including the main Island and some outposts. The NPCs provide both an upgrade discount and a chance to acquire a new upgrade recipe. The discount on upgrades increases according to the number of items that are being upgraded. It can also be boosted by having players complete some specific achievements or complete quests.

Unlike Cromwell in Baldur's Gate II is no item upgrader available in the beginning of Icewind Dale. The NPCs that can assist with upgrades are only available through a variety means. This is both a positive and a disadvantage.

In Season 3, many new features were added to the upgrade system. Once a player has upgraded to a specific level for an armor slot, upgrading other items to the same item level, will cost less. This applies even if those items are from another set of gear.

The amount of Valorstones required to upgrade is reduced and the discount is affixed to all accounts. In the same way, the amount of Harbinger Crests required for upgrades is also reduced and is not available until players achieve certain milestones in their achievements.

Crests

Players have a variety of options when it comes to upgrading their gear in WoW. Flightstones are an item that is available to all players for upgrading. Crests are more specialized and are used for specific item level upgrades. Crests are a key element of the Dragonflight gear progression system, which was introduced in 10.1 and are available in 4 ranks.

The first thing to remember is that crests can only be used to purchase gear of a specific rank, and every rank has different requirements for upgrading. The most basic and straightforward upgrade path costs 15 crests, while the more complex one may require as many as 20 crests, based on the kind of gear being upgraded.

Players can earn crests by working through tasks at the appropriate level. This could mean engaging in outdoor activities or completing dungeons and raids in any difficulty to earn equipment of lower tier or Mythic+ raid bosses or dungeons that have a high difficulty to obtain endgame gear. Crests can be exchanged at an item upgrader NPC, like Cuzolth in Dornogal, or Vaskarn in Valdrakken to get the appropriate upgrade paths and steps.

The use of these currencies isn't too complicated however, the system introduces some modifications to the upgrade process. For instance, once an item is at the highest level of upgrading for any rank (Explorer, Adventurer, Veteran, Champion, Hero, or Mythic) it will no longer require Flightstones to be upgraded. This is to allow players to get their equipment up to the highest level possible for all their characters instead of relying only on seasonal loot.

It's also important to use crests wisely, as they are only used for one purpose. For instance, it's a good idea make use of all your Whelpling-rank crests with the best equipment you have and save Drake and Wyrm crests for the next round of upgrades you're planning to make. This is particularly applicable to rings and trinkets that fill multiple slots on the character that will be able to benefit from the account-wide discount if all of the slots are filled with high-quality equipment.
