They can be bought by players from NPCs who sell upgrades for items in exchange for various currencies, and may also be found in random treasure lists. Once purchased, an upgrade is able to be applied to any weapon, tool or armor. The button will display the preview of an Item level Upgrade's next upgrade level, if there are enough materials.

The cost of upgrading is based on the Best item upgrader slot and the current item level upgrade level and the weapon's price is higher than gloves or bracers for instance. Each upgrade cost 15 Flightstones and a number of crests, with some upgrades having a discount to reduce the cost of Flightstones or crests used. Once an item has been upgraded to a certain degree it is able to be degraded and sold back to the upgrader for a lower amount of the two currencies.

The discount for the entire account will only be applicable if all slots on the character are filled with top-quality gear.
