Evolution Korea
Until recently the scientific community in Korea has been hesitant to engage with the creationists in fear that doing so could give the movement more credibility. The silence is no longer a viable option.
The STR has been campaigning to get rid of textbooks that explain evolution, including the discovery of the feathered dinosaur Archaeopteryx as an ancestor of birds. However, this is just one aspect of the evolution of the development paradigm.
What is Evolution?
Evolution is a scientific theory that explains the change in genetic characteristics of living organisms over time. The theory is based on fact that living organisms adapt to their environment, which can cause variations in genes, or even entire genomes. These changes can, over generations lead to the creation of new species. Natural selection is the predominant theory of evolution. It explains how people with advantageous traits are more likely to reproduce and survive than those with less favorable traits. Over time, this differential reproduction may lead to the development of completely new species.
The word "evolution" originates from Latin for revealing or unrolling has been used in many different ways as the concept has evolved, both in science as well as elsewhere. Early evolutionists such as Erasmus Darwin (Charles’s grandfather) and Jean Baptiste de Lamarck believed that species were predetermined to evolve into a different species. The term"transmutation" was coined by Lamarck's disciple, embryologist Etienne Geoffroy Saint-Hilaire, to describe this view. Charles Lyell, in his Principles of Geology, published in 1833, challenged the idea of evolution, 에볼루션게이밍 and borrowed the term from Geoffroy's student.
More recently, evolutionary biologists have defined evolution as a process when living organisms develop traits that improve their chances of survival or ability to reproduce offspring. As time passes, genetic variation can cause a population to develop new physical traits or biological functions. The variation in gene frequencies is known as natural selection and it is the main driver of evolutionary change. However non-genetic changes like increases in the muscle mass as a result of exercise or diet cannot be considered examples of evolution since they're not inherited by future generations.
Despite the fact that evolution has withstood the test of time and thousands of scientific tests however, creationists have taken advantage of the idea that evolution is controversial to argue that it shouldn't be taught in school. In South Korea, creationists have won a few victories in their efforts to eliminate evolution from high school textbooks which includes the removal of references to the evolutionary origins of humans and the Archaeopteryx feathered dinosaur that is thought to be the ancestral bird's ancestor.
Why is Evolution important to humanity?
Evolution explains how the Earth and all its living creatures came into existence. It is also a fundamental part of biology that helps scientists to learn how living organisms function and grow. Evolution also reveals the relationships between species. Scientists study evolution to better comprehend nature and 에볼루션 바카라 무료체험 (view it) make important discoveries like new drugs.
The evidence for evolution is overwhelming. No other scientific theory can explain more about the universe and the life on this planet. It has been thoroughly scrutinized and confirmed for a number of years. Many people, 에볼루션 사이트 even some religious leaders, are in support of the scientific theory. It is important to remember that evolutionary biology doesn't contradict religious beliefs, since the theory is based on things, events and processes within the physical world.
In fact many religious people have come up with ways to reconcile their beliefs with evolutionary theory. For instance, some Christians believe that God created the universe through evolution and that humans share an ancestry with other animals.
It is important for scientists to stand up for the teaching of evolution. In some countries, anti-evolution sentiment has been growing. In the United States, efforts to restrict the teaching of evolution have made some progress in a few states. In South Korea, a group called the Society for Textbook Revise (STR), 에볼루션바카라사이트 an offshoot of the Korea Association for Creation Research, is campaigning for the elimination of textbook content about the evolution of horses and the avian ancestral Archaeopteryx.
While these are troubling developments, it is important to keep in mind that the evidence for evolution is overwhelming. The evidence comes from a diverse range of sources, such as fossils, genetic studies and the behavior of living organisms. Other scientists independently verify the evidence.
The majority of scientists agree with the theory of evolution. The reasons for this support are diverse. Certain scientists study evolution to make practical discoveries such as the development of new medicines and other treatments, while others use it to improve the lives of animals and plant species, usually for the benefit of humans. Some scientists are simply curious, whereas others have an intense faith in God.
What is Creationism?
Creationists believe that God created everything in the universe. They also believe that the Bible is the word of God and should be taken literally. Although not all creationists are Christian, they are a majority. Creationists typically fall into two categories: Young Earth creationists (YEC) and old earth creationists (OEC).
YECs are the most well known type of creationist and they believe that God created the world exactly as described in the Bible. YECs believe that the biblical account of the six days of creation is literal and that the universe and the life on Earth started only recently.
OECs are not as well-known However, they are just as passionate about their beliefs as YECs. OECs believe that the universe and all life on Earth are billions of years old, and that evolution is a myth.
Both types of creationism reject the idea that scientific principles like biogenesis and natural selection can explain how life started on Earth. They assert that evolution is inconceivable because it would require miracles. The pioneers of modern science shunned miracles out of fear they might lose their credibility.
Some creationists accept naturalistic evolution as well as special creation. They call their view "theistic evolution." This is also referred to as "continuous evolutionism" or the "evolution of species created." This theory states that God creates original species and allows them to evolve over time. Eventually, these evolutionary changes will result in new species similar to the original ones.
Other creationists believe that God created the universe and all living things in one event, called the Great Flood. They believe that all the original species were created at the same time and 에볼루션 코리아 then slowly evolved. They deny the notion of abiogenesis, and argue that self-replicating living cannot come from nonliving matter.
In general, the creationists are opposed to the teaching of evolution in schools. This is a position that is backed by a myriad of professional associations such as the National Science Teachers Association, the Association for Science Teacher Education, the American Anthropological Association, and the Geological Society of America. However, certain researchers and educational institutions are more flexible, and allow the inclusion of both evolution and creationism in their curricula.
What is Creationism in Korea?
When people think of the concept of creationism, they often think of the United States. South Korea also has an anti-evolution group. The publishers of textbooks for high school students have recently announced that they will eliminate references to evolution from their textbooks. The Society for Textbook Revise, an independent body which is an offshoot from the Korea Association for Creation Research (KACCR), has led this drive. STR has won its first victory by removing examples of the evolution of the horse as well as an avian ancestor called the Archeopteryx, from textbooks. Its next target is to eliminate excerpts from Darwin’s infamous finch-research and also on human evolution.
STR claims that it has the support of around 4,000 families and individuals. Its mission, it states, is to rid the world of what it calls "atheist materialism" which paints an unflattering image for students. It also seeks to counter the influence of American creationists in the United States. A survey of trainees in biology found that half didn't believe in evolution. The reasons for this aren't entirely certain, but could be related to religious beliefs or the lack of creation scientists in the US.
The KACR achieved many things through its lectures and seminars in the past. It publishes a bimonthly magazine, Creation, and has published books. The most notable of these is a text on the natural sciences that has a creationist viewpoint, which has sparked interest among college students. In 1991, a professor along with a minister began teaching Creation Science at one university. It is still taught in the present.
On August 6th and 7th of 1993, KACR hosted a second International Symposium on Creation Research. The event was held in conjunction with the opening of the World Expo in Daejeon. Six lecturers from outside the country, including ICR's John Morris and Steven Austin addressed an audience of several thousand. KACR and its members have been giving lectures on creation science at major seminaries too. KACR plans to create a Creation Science Education Center in the future.
