Evolution Korea
For a long time the Korean scientific community refrained from engaging with creationists, afraid that it could boost the credibility of the group. However, silence is no anymore an option.
The STR has been battling to eliminate content from textbooks that describe evolution, such as the discovery of the feathered dinosaur Archaeopteryx as an ancestor of birds. However, this is just one aspect of the development paradigm's evolution.
What is Evolution?
Evolution is a theory of science that explains the evolution of genetic characteristics of living organisms over time. The theory is based on fact that living organisms adapt to their surroundings and this can lead to changes in genes or even whole genomes. These changes can over many generations result in the development of new species. Natural selection is the dominant theory of evolution. It describes how individuals with advantageous traits can reproduce faster and longer than those with disadvantageous ones. As time passes, this difference in reproduction may lead to the development of completely new species.
The term "evolution" is derived from the Latin for unrolling or revealing has been used in a variety of different ways as the concept has changed, both in science and elsewhere. Early evolutionists, such as Jean Baptiste de Lamarck and Erasmus Darwin (Charles's grandfather), believed that existing species evolved into new species in a predetermined fashion. Etienne Geoffroy St-Hilaire was Lamarck's embryologist disciple who coined the term "transmutation" to describe this view. Charles Lyell, in his Principles of Geology, published in 1833, criticized the concept of evolution and borrowed the term from Geoffroy’s student.
In recent years evolutionary biologists have defined evolution as a process when living creatures develop characteristics that improve their chances of survival, or their ability to reproduce offspring. Over time the genetic variability could lead to the emergence of entirely new physical or biological functions in the same population. Such a change in gene frequencies is called natural selection, and it drives most evolutionary changes. Non-genetic changes, such as an increase in muscle mass through exercise or diet, cannot be considered to be evolution since they aren't passed on to the next generation.
Creationists make the argument that evolution is controversial, 무료에볼루션 (wiki.ragnaworld.Net) even though it has been proven true by thousands of scientific tests and it has stood the test of time. They claim that the theory should not be taught in schools. In South Korea, creationists have won a few victories in their campaign to exclude evolution from high-school textbooks, including the removal of any mention of the evolutionary roots of humans and the Archaeopteryx, a feathered dinosaur believed to be an ancestor of birds.
Why is Evolution Important?
Evolution is the explanation for the origins of Earth and all living species. It is also one of the pillars of biology and helps scientists understand how living things work and grow. Evolution also helps us understand the connections between species. Scientists study evolution to gain a better understanding of the natural world, and 에볼루션 게이밍 to make useful discoveries including the development of new medicines.
The evidence for biological evolution is overwhelming. There is no other scientific theory that explains so much about the universe as well as life on this planet, and it has been rigorously tested and confirmed over many years. Many people, and even religious leaders, are in favor of the scientific theory. It is important to understand that evolutionary biology does not conflict with religious beliefs, since the theory only deals with objects, events and processes in the physical world.
Many religious people have found a way to reconcile evolution with their beliefs. Certain Christians for instance, believe that God created everything through evolution and that humans share an ancestral connection to other animals.
It is essential that scientists and educators speak out for the teaching evolution. In certain countries, anti-evolution sentiment has been growing. In the United States, efforts to restrict the teaching of evolution have made headway in a few states. In South Korea, a group known as the Society for Textbook Revise, an offshoot from the Korea Association for Creation Research (KAC) is a campaign for textbooks to include content on the evolution of horses and their ancestral avian species Archaeopteryx.
While these are troubling developments, it is important to remember that the evidence for evolution is overwhelming. The evidence comes from a wide variety of sources, 바카라 에볼루션 including fossils, genetic studies, and the behavior of living organisms. Other scientists independently confirm the evidence.
The vast majority of scientists support the theory of evolution. The reasons behind this belief are diverse. Some scientists study evolution in order to make practical discoveries, such as developing new drugs and other treatments, while others use it to improve the quality of animal and plant species, usually for the benefit of humans. Some scientists are simply curious, while others have an intense faith in God.
What is Creationism?
Creationists believe that God created everything in the universe. They also believe that the Bible is God's word and should be taken literally. Many creationists are Christians however, not all. Creationists generally fall into two categories: Young Earth creationists (YEC) and old earth creationists (OEC).
The YECs are perhaps the most well known form of creationist, and they believe that God created the universe exactly as described in the Bible. They believe that the biblical account of the creation's six days is true and that the universe and life on Earth started only recently.
OECs may be less popular, but their beliefs are just as intense as those of YECs. OECs believe that the universe and life on Earth are billions of years old and they believe that evolution is a myth.
Both forms of creationism reject the notion that scientific theories such as natural selection and abiogenesis could explain the origins of life on Earth. They argue that evolution is impossible because it requires an extraordinary event, and that the scientists who founded modern science shied away from miracles due to fear that they would lose credibility.
Some creationists accept naturalistic evolution and special creation. They refer to their belief as "theistic evolution." This is also referred to as "continuous evolutionism" or the "evolution of created kinds." In this view, God creates the original species and allows them to change over time. In the end the evolutionary changes produce new species that are like the original ones.
Other creationists believe that God created the universe and all living things during a single event, referred to as the Great Flood. These creationists hold that all the original species were created at the same moment and then gradually evolved. They reject the concept of abiogenesis, and argue that self-replicating life cannot arise from non-living matter.
In general, creationists are opposed to the teaching of evolution in schools. This position is supported by a myriad of professional associations such as the National Science Teachers Association, the Association for Science Teacher Education as well as the American Anthropological Association, and the Geological Society of America. However, certain academic institutions and scientists are more flexible and permit the inclusion of both evolution and creationism in their curriculum.
What is Creationism?
When people think of creationism typically think of the United States. South Korea also has an anti-evolution group. The publishers of high-school textbooks recently announced that they will remove the mention of evolution in their editions. A group known as the Society for Textbook Revise (STR), 에볼루션 무료체험 (see more) an independent body that is an offshoot of the Korea Association for Creation Research and has been the driving force behind the move. The STR has achieved its first victory by removing from textbooks examples of the evolution and ancestor of an avian, the Archeopteryx. The next goal is to eliminate excerpts from Darwin’s infamous finch-research and also on human evolution.
STR claims that it has the support of 4,000 families and individual members. Its mission, it states is to cleanse the world of what it calls "atheist materialism" which portrays an image of students as being negative. It also aims at countering the influence of American Creationists across the country. A survey of trainee biology teachers revealed that around half do not believe in the concept of evolution. The causes aren't clear, but may include religion and the absence of full-time creation scientists across the country.
The KACR has accomplished a lot through its lectures and seminar events. It publishes a bimonthly journal called Creation and a book. One of these was a textbook on natural science with a cosmological perspective. This led to an interest among college communities. In 1991, a professor, together with a minister began teaching Creation Science at one university. It is still taught today.
On August 6th and 7th of 1993, KACR hosted a second International Symposium on Creation Research. This was held in conjunction with the opening of the World Expo in Daejeon. Six lecturers from outside the country including ICR's John Morris and Steven Austin presented to thousands of people. KACR members and KACR have also presented lectures on creation science in major seminaries. KACR is planning to create a Creation Science Education Center.
