WoW Upgrades - The Item Upgrader

Upgrades give a guaranteed boost to specific stats. Each upgrade boosts the level of an item by 3. A random additional substat is also increased with each upgrade.

The upgraded gear typically has a higher trade value, unless it has inherently low requirements (like the FB sorc's shield) or a very high stat variance (like Eth titan weapons). These types of gear get less value from upgrading due to the necessity to roll to get a perfect version.

Recycle Points

The item upgrader enables players to upgrade their gear to a higher level by supplying the appropriate currency to the NPC. Upgrades can be made on any type of weapon or armor. However, the item that is used to upgrade will be consumed for the duration of time and can't be used again. Upgrades can be used to create Enchantments.

You can upgrade your gear at any time by visiting the upgrader in any major city. It is recommended to visit the upgrader once every few weeks, to keep your equipment up-to-date.

Upgrades can cost more based on the level of the item, however, they are always less expensive than purchasing new gear. For example, upgrading a chest piece from Benthic to ilvl 385 will cost 20 recycle points while purchasing the same item from another player will costs 105.

Valorstones

Upgrades are items that can be used for weapon, armor, tool, and accessory upgrades. They can be purchased by players from item level upgrade upgraders NPCs for various currencies. They can also find them in random treasure lists. Once purchased, an upgrade is able to be used on any weapon, tool, or armor. The button will show a preview of an item's next upgrade level if there are enough materials.

The cost of upgrading varies based on the item slot, and the current level of the item. For instance, weapons will cost more than gloves, bracers or bracers. Each upgrade cost 15 Flightstones plus a specific number of crests. Certain upgrades provide discounts on Flightstones. Once an item is upgraded to a certain amount, it can be downgraded and sold to the upgrader at a lower price.

Many locations offer item upgraders which include the main island and a few outposts. The NPCs offer both an upgrade coupon as well as the possibility of obtaining a new recipe. The discount for upgrading increases when more items are upgraded. It can be increased by having players complete certain achievements or complete quests.

Unlike Cromwell in Baldur's Gate II, there is no upgrader for items available at the start of Icewind Dale. Instead the NPCs that can be used to upgrade are acquired via several methods, which is both an improvement but also a drawback.

In Season 3, many new features were added to the upgrade system. Once a player obtains an upgrade to a certain level of an item for a specific armor slot, upgrading other items to the same level will cost less even if they belong to an entirely different set of gear.

The amount of Valorstones required to upgrade is reduced and the discount is affixed to all accounts. The amount of Harbinger Crests needed to upgrade is reduced also, but is only available after certain milestones have been reached.

Crests

Players have a number of choices when it comes to upgrading their equipment in WoW. Flightstones are a currency that is available to everyone who wants to upgrade. Crests are more special and are utilized during specific item level upgrades. Crests are an important element of the Dragonflight Gear Progression System that was introduced in version 10.1. They come in four ranks.

The first thing to be aware of is that crests can only be spent on equipment of a particular rank, and every rank has different requirements for upgrading. The most basic and straightforward upgrade path costs 15 crests, while the more complex one may require as many as 20 crests depending on the type of equipment being upgraded.

Players can earn crests through working through content at the appropriate level. This could be done by doing outdoor activities or doing dungeons or raids in any difficulty to earn lower-tier gear or Mythicbosses of raids or dungeons with a heroic difficulty for endgame gear. These crests can be exchanged with an upgrader such as Cuzolth or Vaskarn, in Valdrakken to upgrade the item in the proper steps and paths.

The use of these currencies isn't too complicated, but the system does introduce some changes to the overall upgrade item process. For instance, once an item upgrader mod is at the highest level of upgrade for any rank (Explorer, Adventurer, Veteran, Champion, Hero, or Mythic), it will no longer require Flightstones to be upgraded. This is to allow players to upgrade their equipment up to the highest possible ilvl on all their characters instead of relying on seasonal loot.

It's also important to use crests with care, since they are only used for one purpose. It is recommended to use your Whelpling-rank crests on the highest-quality gear you can find, and keep Drake and Wyrm Crests for the next round of upgrades. This is especially applicable to items like trinkets and rings that fill several slots. The discount on the account will only be applicable if all the slots on the character are filled with top-quality gear.
