How to Replace an replacement audi car key G28 Engine Speed Sensor

Charles the Humble Technician shows you how to replace the G28 Engine Speed Sensor. The sensor is situated near the edges of the transmission just above the flywheel ring gear. It transmits a signal to the ECU through an uncolored wire T55/49, then to the tachometer on the instrument cluster.

1. Engine Speed Sensor

The sensor is located at the edge of the transmission, above the flywheel ring gear G28 Engine Speed Sensor sends signals to ECU pin T55/49 via the grey wire. The ECU then uses this information to control the flow of fuel, timig and boost. It also sends an indication to the G5 Tachometer located in the instrument cluster.

The sensor is used to connect the G40 Camshaft position Sensor. The ecu needs to know when the crankshaft reached TDC and also where the camshaft lies to trigger the spark and injectors.

If this sensor fails, the ECU will display an error code P00160. This indicates that the Crank Shaft is not in line with the Intake Camshaft. It could also indicate an issue with the chain or a jumped chain link in the upper chain of timing. However the code will not appear on its own without additional information from other sensors (G4 and G40).

Testing is a bit challenging since there are two pins replacement key for audi the connector and they have different functions however the best method of testing it is to measure resistance between the sensor and the ECU. When the sensor is fully operational, it should read around 1000 ohms. Examine key for audi evidence of coolant or oil in the connector bay if you are experiencing problems with this part.

2. Injectors

Yesterday, as i was accelerating off the highway paytoll at full speed I noticed a massive reduction in power. It was as if the engine had run out of gas. Or my injectors were not firing. This morning i pull out the spark plugs, 3 were drenched in gazoline, the fourth was dry. I put tissue over each injector hole, and when i start the engine without sparks, the ones with gazoline jump right out. The fourth one remains shut. I inspected the ground connection on ECU pins 14/55,30/55 and 48/55 I got 0ohm. Therefore, i think the issue is elsewhere.

I also tried to reset the PID but with no luck. The car will start when the G28 is disconnected, but it works fine when the G28 connected. However the intermittent misfire issue continues to occur at higher RPM. The temperature sensor for coolant (G62) shows the wrong temperature value of -49c even when i unplug it. Also i noticed that the oil pressure gauge in the cockpit is showing 2 bar while the actual pressure is 0.0 when I crank up the engine.

I'm not certain what to do, i believe that i've eliminated everything else. I'm worried that i might have missed something. Please let me know If you have any suggestions! TIA!

3. Fuel Pump

The fuel pump in the g28 receives a signal from the RPM sensor. The GM-style transmitter is identical to the G4 sender and works on the 80,100,200, UrS, and RS2 vehicles. You can easily find an extra in a wrecking shop or a parts store. It is simple to test them to do - just put your DMM in resistance mode and measure the resistance between pins 1 (with the bump on the connector's side up) and 2 (2nd from the left on the black end of the connector). They must be infinite Ohms.

4. ECU

Our 20vt turbo (3B AAN, ABY, and ADU) engines have an ECU that needs to know the position and speed of the crankshaft in order to make a decision about timing of the fuel injector, for example. To do this, it uses a Crank Position Sensor (G4) and an Engine Speed Sensor (G28). If either of these sensors go badly, you will see codes on the diagnostic scanner that can lead to engine shutdown.

Some of the symptoms of a failed G28 sensor include an inaccurate rev counter for the gearbox and gears that shift faster than normal and/or misfiring when you're in gear. It is probable that the sensor is failing and requires to be replaced if you encounter any of these symptoms. They are cheap and easy-to-find particularly when they're a Bosch model like ours. Alternately, the GM version of this component is also a good option.

5. Tachometer

A malfunctioning engine sensor can cause a number of problems in your car.
