Guide To Item Upgrades: The Intermediate Guide To Item Upgrades
Path of Exile item upgrading Upgrades
Item upgrades are a common and crucial method to enhance the performance of numerous items in Path of Exile. They can also provide additional damage, AD or even affixes.
Rare-grade equipment can be superior to the more modernized Common or Magic gear due to their high demands.
Armor
Armor upgrades are a type of upgrade that can be used on weapon and armor items. They improve the stats of the item upgrade they are connected to. Upgrades to armor can be found in the world of games and can be purchased from Blacksmiths at bonfires. They can also be salvaged using a specialist or higher salvage kit to recover upgrades from the items.
The amount of damage an armored piece or weapon is able to absorb is dependent on the level of its upgrades. A piece of armor upgraded to its highest upgrade level will boost its damage absorption. It is important to note that this will increase the weight of the armor, so it must be more heavy.
There are a variety of armor upgrades that are available in the game. Each one has a distinct effect. For example, some upgrades will give the armor a certain amount of health points while others make it stronger and lighter. The name of the armor upgrade will indicate the kind of upgrade an item can be given, as illustrated below.
Some upgrades also feature magic or a mix of technology and magic which is shown by the "Magic" or "Hybrid" entry in the table below. Additionally, some upgrades require charges to use, which is identified by the "Charges" entry in the table below. These charges are either continuously updated or never expire depending on the upgrade.
Iron Ore is the cheapest option to upgrade your armor. You can find it by exploring and looting small loot chests. Titanium is more expensive however, it is available at the smelters in Orgrimmar and Stormwind City. Certain upgrades, such as the Reforge and the Hot Potato Books, can only be applied to high-level armor pieces. These upgrades can give a significant boost in stats, and are worth the cost.
The process of upgrading an armor piece to its maximum upgrade level will significantly boost its defense but the wearer must be aware that putting on weight will dramatically reduce its agility and speed. It is not recommended to upgrade armor past +9. The boost in defense typically isn't worth the weight and power costs of the upgrades.
Weapons
Weapon upgrades give players the ability to improve certain aspects of their weapon. Upgrades can improve the accuracy of a rifle or the damage that shotgun shells cause. Certain firearms have upgrades to improve their inherent capabilities. Frictionless materials (improves stability, reduces the risk of the risk of overheating) and Kinetic coils (increases the projectile's acceleration for greater damage) are two examples.
The majority of upgrades to weapons require three Power Dices, a different amount of Minerals and Erons, and a whetblade. They can be obtained by completing Side Quests or by killing a certain number of monsters and bosses.
To upgrade an equipment set, weapon piece, or Whetblade, you must visit the NPC [ArmorBoboko. Boboko located in Central Flarine, and pay her an upgrade fee that is a certain number of Bars. The more bars needed to complete an upgrade the more advanced the level. The cost of upgrades will be lower if have more than one of the relevant upgrade materials.
In Chapter 2: Season 5 the way you upgrade weapon and equipment sets has changed a bit. Prior to Chapter 2: Season 5, you could upgrade your weapon and equipment by paying a certain number of Bars. You could do this until you reach a maximum upgrade level for the equipment or weapon, after which upgrades would reset.
You can still do this however, the process is high on RNG and low on agency. You should consider buying equipment with minimal upgrade levels, but high base scores and stat distributions. These gears have a better chance of granting you the highest level of advantages and benefits.
Most players will want to make the most of upgrades to weapons they use most frequently to allow them to progress quicker. Players should also upgrade the weapons that their squadmates utilize to increase their power. Shepard for instance should upgrade his M92F so that he can unlock the Beretta M93R. This will make the weapon more useful when accompanied by biotic specialists like Grunt and Tali.
Jewels
Jewels are placed in the armor's sockets and weapons, increasing a stat and providing secondary effects. They can be created through an process known as jewelry crafting, which is where you combine a gem with various ingredients at a table for jewelry. The higher the tier of the gemstone is, the greater its secondary effect. These reagents can be obtained from Treasure Goblins and World Bosses around the world, or by salvaging Legendary Gear. You can also purchase them from The Jeweler for gold and a Scattered Prism.
The quality of a diamond can be improved at the Jeweler in stages that vary from Crude to Royal. The stat boosts will vary according to the tier that the jewel is in when it is inserted into weapons, jewelry, or gear.
All kinds of jewels are crafted at the Jeweler, with the exception of the rare and legendary jewels which require you to be at a sufficient level to obtain the privilege of having them. Unlike other upgrade components, jewels can be swapped by a different identical jewel without damaging it. However you can only swap out the jewels in a piece of equipment only once.
It is common to use more gems to enhance the appearance of. In addition to enhancing performance, the jewels create a surface that is harder than steel, so the repeated friction with pivots doesn't cause damage as easily.
In addition to the above-mentioned upgrades players can also get glyphs for their shields and weapons from a Glyphmaster. These provide a small bonus and are able to be swapped easily but aren't guaranteed to drop as loot. Glyphs, like jewelry, can be upgraded at the Jeweler to exchange Scattered Crystals and gold. Glyphs may also be removed and returned to the inventory. Other upgrade components like traits or aegis cannot be swapped, and can only be retrieved with an upgrade item extractor or salvaging using the Black Lion Salvage Kit or Ascended Salvage.
Trinkets
Trinkets can give your character many small, but beneficial advantages. They can be obtained in the beginning areas as loot, personal story rewards, from vendors, or by doing road interactions. They can also be found on the Trading Post, or crafted by jewelers.
The first trinkets a player is able to unlock is the cloak. It grants a small but useful bonus to movement speed and evasion. Then, they can purchase amulets, rings and necklaces in the same fashion to how the player can acquire armor and weapons. Each piece of equipment comes with an upgrade slot that is either universal or jewel. Universal upgrades offer smaller bonuses and can be used in any type of equipment while jewelry cannot be changed or upgraded and is only compatible with certain kinds of trinkets.
These trinkets can provide additional bonuses and abilities that are active when the hero isn't engaged in combat. This lets a hero become more efficient even when not in combat. It also helps compensate for the absence of strong team or talent tree slots that are normally filled by the hero's best stats.
A good general rule of thumb for trinket upgrades is to prioritize BiS (Best-in-Slot) items that you won't be replacing soon, followed by items with desirable stats but less important than the iLevel of the item upgrade that is being upgraded. This is true especially if you want to upgrade multiple statistics on an item upgrader kit. It's more beneficial to upgrade a single important stat instead of two subpar ones.
In the beginning of the game, players who are in the jungle will typically want to upgrade their yellow trinket to a red, while top and mid players will usually opt for a green or pink ward (depending on the game's matchup). These choices will have a major impact on the hero's ability to control his map.
In addition to the items listed above, players can also find other trinkets in the form of trophies and rewards throughout the game. They can be earned by completing certain milestones within the story, for instance completing a chapter's main quest or killing a particular boss. You can view them by selecting the achievement in the reward section of the hero's menu.
