It makes use of lidar to navigate, and create maps of rooms and floors (even multiple levels) and integrates with the free Eufy Clean app that lets you set schedules and customize the behavior of the S1.
When I tried the S1, it was quick to locate our downstairs, which is home to linoleum flooring in the kitchen-diner and bathrooms, along with carpeting with a medium-pile and an area rug. It easily drove close to walls without crashing into them, and even managed to traverse thresholds that were raised in the room without problem, but it sometimes was unable to navigate down stairs in a single move. The S1 performed admirably in cleaning hard floors. The mop sped along on its flat side and raised itself when it was near carpets or rugs.
The docking station on the S1 automatically emptys its trash bin and replenishes its water tank onboard with clean, ozonated water before each mopping session. The dock provides an extra-deep cleaning solution to the water. The S1 water tank can be able to accommodate 12 cleaning sessions, but this will differ based on how often you use the mop.
The S1 needs periodic maintenance, just like other 2-in-1 robots. For this, you'll need to wash the dirty water tank occasionally to keep it from becoming clogged. You will also need to clean your sensors and swivel wheel regularly to avoid them becoming blocked by dust or dirt. Overall the S1 is easy to maintain, particularly compared to other combinations that require more hands-on maintenance.
