The Best Robot Hoover

The best robot hoover can clean and mop without requiring your attention, and will leave your floors spotless. Its low cost and high-end features (such as dirt detection) are pluses.

Make sure to check your robot vacuums with mop's brushes regularly for tangled debris as well as hair. Wash them when necessary. Some models will automatically empty their onboard dust bin into a larger one at the base, which reduces the amount of fine dust that is released into the air.

1. Roomba Q5 Pro

The Q5 Pro, and its more expensive counterpart the Q7 Max Series are among the most powerful robotic vacuums we have test. They are equipped with motors that are top of the quality and can suction up to 5,500 Pascals. As with other premium iRobot models (including the top-rated model) they utilize intelligent mapping technology to create detailed floor plans and avoid common obstacles like cords and furniture legs. They also come with a feature called carpet boost that boosts the robot's performance when it sees a lot of dirt on the carpet in order to get it cleaned up quickly.

Both the Q5 as well as the Q7 Max Series get very high scores on our tests on floors that are bare and are particularly effective in cleaning pet hair. However, they have some flaws that prevent them from being our top pick. One of them is that the Q5's navigation doesn't include AI-powered obstacle avoidance and is therefore prone to become entangled in shoes and socks, and is unable to navigate tightly packed rooms very efficiently in our tests. Also, it doesn't have a camera that would let it see the corners of the room.

It's still a good deal, especially if your office or home has a lot of bare flooring and you're looking to save some money. It's also very quiet and you can use it while you're at work, or school. The only thing it lacks that you don't get in the pricier iRobot Roomba X30 is edge-to-edge vacuuming of floors with no floor. It's also less effective at mopping, using disposable wet wipes, which don't stick on very well and can't handle dried-on debris. The Q5 has an auto-emptying dock, however. If you're required to, the mopping pad can be changed for one that is wet in just a few minutes.

2. IRobot Roomba

The iRobot Roomba X30 is a compact sleek and stylish vacuum cleaner that can mop floors. Its intelligent cleaning maps as well as quick navigation make it easy to clean and effective in dealing with larger particles like pet hair. It also comes with strong suction and self-emptying bin. It's the best robot hoover for carpets, although it lags behind some competitors in deep cleaning.

This top-performing mop and vacuum combination uses advanced sensor technology to dodge obstacles and pet waste and it learns the layout of your home over time for more efficient cleaning. The app allows you to modify zones and alter the cleaning schedule. It comes with a battery life that is similar to other models.

It is possible to instruct the X30 Ultra to remove its mops and to extend them when it's in a carpeted room which prevents cross-contamination. The flex arm can be utilized to reach under low-lying furnishings and along baseboards. However, it's not equipped with the same washboard performance as our other Editors' Choice picks, the Ecovacs Deebot Ozmo N8 Pro+ and the iRobot Combo j9+.

In the course of testing, X30 Ultra was the quickest robot vacuum/mop that could clean an entire home and had 66 percent of its battery remaining. It also did an excellent job of cleaning a mix of floors and rooms with various flooring types, such as certain area rug. Its obstacle detection was top-of-the-line, and it nimbly avoided fake dog turds, socks, shoes and cables.

It's more expensive than the iRobot Combo v9+ and iRobot Roomba j9+, but it has superior suction, an onboard dustbin that automatically fills up its base, and it supports voice commands via Amazon Alexa and Google Assistant. It can clean the floor even after it has vacuumed. This is a feature that we haven't seen in other robot vacuum/mop combination.

3. Roomba X40 from iRobot

With an elegant circular design that appears more like a normal Roomba rather than the boxy units, this mop and robot vacuum is among the most attractive designs in our evaluations. The latest model from iRobot happens to be its smartest model, with features that are cutting-edge like Enhanced Dirt Detection Technology as well as future compatibility with Matter (another company's robot that is able to wash mop pads).

It's also the only robot vacuum/mop to score the perfect 10/10 out of 10 in our tests. This is due to a mix of high-tech sensors, including a structured light system, camera and multiple lasers. The X40 Ultra is also the only robot we tested that can fully self-refill and empty its base station and boasts an its own self-cleaning mop pads.

Like other iRobot models, the X40 is user-friendly, with an easy mobile app interface, and integration with Amazon Alexa, Apple HomeKit, and Google Assistant. The only real drawback is that it's still quite loud which could be problematic if you run it in the morning prior to work or at night as you try to fall asleep.

It's also a bit expensive, but not as much as the Ecovacs MaxV Ultra or the Roborock S8 Omni, which are both equally powerful and more attractive. This is a two-in-one vacuum that's very capable however, it will cost you more and produce more noise.

4. iRobot Roomba L20 Ultra

The L20 Ultra is a top-of-the-range robot vacuum best vacuum and mop, with a lot of advanced features that let you get rid of your chores. Similar to Ecovacs range-topping X2 Omni and Roborock's S8 Pro Ultra, the L20 is designed to be a hands-free cleaning machine that takes the care of vacuuming and mopping, with a multi-function dock that automatically empty the autonomous vacuum's trash bin, refills its water tank, washes and dry the mop pads.

The smart robot employs the combination of LIDAR and structured light to create floor plans and identify obstacles, and navigates more effectively than its top competitors. It also has a front-mounted camera for real-time detection of hazards, although this wasn't quite 100% foolproof during our tests and was often confused by power cords or other obstructions.

The vacuum cleaner comes with an maximum suction of 7,000 Pascals which is more than enough to complete the task. It also comes with "Intelligent Dirt Detection", that regulates the amount of time the vacuum works and alters the frequency of cleaning for different areas of the home depending on the degree of dirt they tend to be.

For larger houses it's recommended to choose a model with zone or spot cleaning modes that let you tell the robot to clean a particular area of your home via the app or voice controls. If you have lots of furniture, a stair mode is also a good option. For families with busy schedules, a recharge feature and resume feature that permits your robot vacuum to resume where it left off could be extremely useful.

iRobot RX3

The RX3 is more sophisticated than its price would suggest. It has a great vacuuming performance, picking up 55% debris in our tests. (It was second to the Roomba Q5 Pro). It also mops with only one pad and a reciprocating movement that is more efficient than most of the robot mop cleaners that we've examined. And it's highly self-sufficient with a full-featured application and an auto-emptying washable base.

The well-designed iRobot app will guide you through a mapping session that collects data about your floorplan as well as any "no-go" areas you have marked on the map. It can be used to make cleaning schedules, set up the perfect spot for cleaning or sort out your rooms with the most dirt for better performance. The app also grants access to a variety of features like seasonal suggestions, custom maps and advanced settings for your cleaning.

Its shape is more rectangular than most other robot vacuums, which means it can get to corners and under furniture more easily. It also has strong 8,000 Pascal suction and intelligent combs for hair of pets. You can also create a spot-clean that intensely cleans a localized area.

The Miele Scout RX3 Home Vision HD is a sleeker and less expensive alternative to iRobot Roomba. It is more appealing in its design, similar to Dolce & Gabbana. The twin cameras are shaped like cute little eyes. It does a good job vacuuming but is more prone to get caught on low thresholds and is noisier than the other top robotic vacuums we've examined. It also comes with an app that's not as intuitive and has a tiny base station that can't double as a bin to empty.
