1. Roomba Q5 Pro
The Q5 Pro and its sibling, the more expensive Q7 Max Series, are among the most powerful robot vacuums we've test. They have motors that are top-of-the class and can handle up to 5,500 Pascals. Like other iRobots with premium features (including the top model) they utilize smart mapping to produce precise floorplans that avoid obstacles such as cords and furniture leg. They also come with carpet boost, a feature that boosts the robot's performance when it detects an abundance of dirt on the carpet, allowing it clean quickly.
Both the Q5 and Q7 Max Series get very good scores in our bare floor tests, and they're particularly adept at cleaning pet hair. However, they do have a few flaws however, which hinder them from being our top choice. One of the flaws of the Q5 is that its navigation system does not have AI-powered obstacles avoidance. It's therefore prone to getting stuck on shoes and socks, and it couldn't navigate rooms with lots of people well in our tests. It also doesn't have cameras that let it see the corners of the room.
However, it's a good choice to consider, particularly if you're looking to save money on an Roomba from iRobot, and you have a bare-floored home or office. Plus, it's very quiet and you can use it when you're at work or going to school. The only thing it lacks that you can't find in the pricier iRobot Roomba X30 is edge-to-edge vacuuming on bare floors. And it's less effective at mopping, relying on disposable wet wipes that don't stay on very well and can't handle dried-on debris. The Q5 does have self-emptying docks, however. And, if you need to, you can switch the mopping pad to dry ones in just a few minutes.
2. IRobot Roomba X30
The iRobot Roomba X30 is a compact elegant vacuum cleaner that can also mop floors. Its intelligent cleaning maps as well as quick navigation make it easy to clean and effective in tackling larger particles, like pet hair. It also features self-emptying dustbins as well as powerful suction, and support for virtual boundaries. It's the most efficient robotic hoover for carpets, however it falls behind some competitors in terms of deep cleaning.
This highly efficient combination vacuum and mop makes use of advanced sensors to avoid obstacles and pet waste and it learns your home's layout over time to provide more efficient cleaning. You can alter its cleaning schedule and set up zones with the well-designed app. Its battery life is average in comparison to other models.
If the X30 Ultra is in a carpeted area, you can instruct it to pull back and extend its mop. This helps prevent cross-contamination. Its flex arm can also be used to reach beneath furniture with low levels and along baseboards. It doesn't perform as well on the washboard as our other Editors' Choice Picks, the Ecovacs Ozmo N8Pro+ and the iRobot Combo j9+.
In tests, the X30 Ultra was the fastest robot vacuum/mop to complete an entire home, and it did so with 66 percent of its battery left. It did a great cleaning job on various flooring and rooms with different kinds of flooring, including some area rugs. Its obstacle detection was great and it was able to avoid fake dog turds, socks, shoes and bundles of cables.
It's a little more expensive than iRobot Combo v9+ or iRobot Roomba j9+ but offers superior suction and an onboard bin that automatically empty into the base. It also supports voice commands through Amazon Alexa and Google Assistant. It is able to clean floors even after it vacuums. This is a feature we haven't seen in other robot vacuum cleaner best vacuum/mop combination.
3. Roomba X40 from iRobot
With an elegant circular design that appears more like a normal Roomba than the competitors' boxes, this robot vacuum and mop combo is among the most attractive designs in our reviews. iRobot’s latest flagship model is also among its most advanced. It comes with advanced features such as Enhanced Dirt Detection as well as future compatibility (another company's robot that can wash mop pads in a self-cleaning manner).
It's also the only robot vacuum or mop that scored a perfect 10 out of 10 in our evaluations. This is thanks to a mix of high-tech sensors including a structured light system, camera and multiple lasers. The X40 Ultra was the only robot we tested that could fill and empty its basestation on its own. It also boasted a suction of 12,000Pa as well as self-cleaning mop mops.
Like other iRobot models like the X40 is user-friendly, with an intuitive mobile app interface, and integration with Amazon Alexa, Apple HomeKit and Google Assistant. The only real drawback is that it's still quite an eerily noisy device that could be a problem if you run it in the morning prior to work or at night as you try to fall asleep.
It's also a bit expensive however, not as much as the Ecovacs S8 MaxV Ultra or Roborock S8 Omni, which are both equally capable and better looking. If you're willing to live with a bit more noise and some additional cost it's a powerful two-in-one that will delight most.
4. iRobot Roomba L20 Ultra
The L20 Ultra is the top-of-the high-end robot vacuum and mop. It comes with a variety of advanced features that make you forget about your chores. Similar to Ecovacs the range-topping X2 Omni and Roborock's S8 Pro Ultra, the L20 is designed to be a hands-free cleaning machine that can take care of both mopping and vacuuming. It comes with a multi-function dock that automatically emptys the vacuum's dustbin, refills its water tank, and washes and dries its mop pads.
The smart robot makes use of a combination of LIDAR and structured light to draw out the floor plan and detect obstacles, navigating more intelligently than its top rivals. It also has a front mounted camera for real-time detection of hazards but this wasn't 100% reliable in our tests and was often confused with obstructions or power cords.
Its vacuum has a high suction capacity of 7,000 Pascals, which is more than enough to finish the job. It also has "Intelligent Dirt Detection", that regulates the amount of time the vacuum works and alters the frequency of cleaning for various areas of the house depending on how dirty they tend to be.
For larger homes it's worth looking for one that has zone or spot cleaning modes that allow you to instruct the robot to clean a particular area of your home by using the app or via voice commands. A stairway mode is beneficial if you have large furniture. For families with busy schedules, a recharge feature and resume feature that allows your robot vacuum to resume where it left off can be extremely useful.
5. iRobot Roomba RX3
The RX3 is a cleaner with more intelligence than you'd expect from its price tag. It vacuums well and picked up 55% debris in our tests. (It was only second to the Roomba Q5 Pro). It also mops using only one pad and a reciprocating motion which is cleaner than the majority of the robot mop cleaners that we've tested. It's also self-sufficient, with a fully-featured app as well as an auto-emptying, washable base.
The well-designed iRobot application guides you through an initial mapping session that collects data about your floorplan and any "no-go" areas you set on the map. It can be used to design cleaning schedules, or to create an automatic spot-clean. You can also use it to prioritize your dirtiest areas to improve performance. The app offers a variety of options, including seasonal suggestions, custom mapping and advanced cleaning settings.
It is also able to reach corners and under furniture more easily because its shape is more rectangular. It is equipped with a powerful 8000 Pascal suction and intelligent combs to remove pet hair. You can also set up a spot-clean that thoroughly cleans an area.
The Miele Scout RX3 Home Vision HD offers a sleeker and less expensive alternative to iRobot Roomba. It has a more attractive, Dolce & Gabbana-esque design and its twin cameras look like cute eyes. It is capable of vacuuming but is more prone to be caught by low thresholds and is a bit more noisy than the other top robot vacuums we've examined. It also comes with an app that's not as intuitive and a small base station that does not double as a bin to empty.
