Top Rated Robot Vacuums
A robot vacuum will keep the floors clean enough to cut down on the frequency at which you need to manually vacuum. Choose one that has good navigation, can clean stairs and corners and has a huge dust bin that needs emptying only once in a while.
There are models that can mop and charge on their own This feature could be essential for those who have pets or children. The top performers in our tests also offer decent obstacle-avoiding capabilities.
1. iRobot Roomba i3+ EVO
The i3+ EVO is identical to its sibling the i3 EVO. They differ only in the fact that the i3+ comes with self-emptying capabilities. The i3+ is a great option for those looking for a a fully automated, hands-off cleaning experience, but are willing to manually empty the robot's dustbin once it gets full.
Both robots are adept in removing dirt and dust particles on carpets and hard floors and are able to move around furniture and other obstacles. iAdapt navigation software makes smart maps of your home that aid the i3+ EVO navigate and clean in a manner that maximizes efficiency. The i3+ doesn't have obstacle avoidance capabilities like the i7+ or other top-rated robots we have tested. It may be stuck on power cords or socks, and may have trouble navigating between different surfaces, like carpet and hardwood.
iRobot suggests that you clear areas that the i3+ EVO will vacuum before you use it, which includes getting rid of any toys or clutter it may come across. Also, keep the dustbin and filters clean to prevent them from getting blocked. If the i3+ EVO's internal bin is filled or the battery is low, it returns to its docking station and automatically emptying its trash into the station's external dustbin and then resumes cleaning where it started. Battery life is about an hour and a half of constant usage. It takes three hours to charge.
2. iRobot Roomba i7+
The iRobot Roomba i7+ is the top model in iRobot's flagship line and has the most up-to-date features. It has self-charging and self-navigating. But the most important feature is its self-emptying bin. This removes the need for regular maintenance.
The Roomba I7+ can map rooms more efficiently with Imprint Smart Mapping. It also works with the iRobot Home app to let you schedule cleaning jobs and control your robot using voice or via the app.
The i7+ is quicker and more maneuverable in our tests than the eufy RoboVac G30. It also picked up large pet hair pieces from any surface including carpeting. Its greatest advantage over the Eufy is its self-emptying bin which eliminates the main sources of maintenance and lowers the cost of recurring maintenance.
We were also impressed by the i7+'s compatibility with Amazon Alexa and Google Assistant AI services, which we used to instruct the robot to start, stop or pause its cleaning routines, move itself around the room and sweep an area. The process of connecting the i7+ to these services was easy and straightforward using the iRobot Home app. After connecting to these services, we were able use the i7+'s voice commands like "Hey Alexa, vacuum the master bedroom." The iRobot Home App also offers options for managing i7+ settings and evaluating the performance.
3. Dyson Cyclone V10
In a world full of vacuums that are cordless and feel like minivans or buses, this small Dyson model is an automobile. It is powerful enough to replace a stand-up vacuum in a majority of homes, but it is also compact enough to fit on a coffee table or bookcase.
The V10 is powered with a 7-cell energy-dense Lithium-ion battery that can provide energy that lasts for 60 minutes. The advanced whole-machine filtering system is able to trap allergens and then releases cleaner air into your home. The specialized head uses rigid nylon bristles to drive deep into carpets and collect large dust or crumbs. It has three suction modes to match the task at hand. It is able to quickly change from handheld to floor vacuum, and vice versa.
The model also comes with a dock that charges to 100% in around 3.5 hours and provides easy access to two attachments as well as a clip for a wand. This is a major improvement over older Dysons that require a long charge and are difficult to store.
The main drawback of the V10 is its limited run time. Its claims on the market that it has up to 60 minutes of run time are not true as CR's tests show. This is a typical and not a remarkable run time for the battery-powered cordless vacuum. It's enough time to sweep the typical best home vacuum cleaner but not enough to reach every spot. (A second time usually works). This model has its own advantages however: it's light and more maneuverable than earlier Dysons cordless models, and its vacuuming ability is noticeably superior on carpets with low pile.
4. iRobot Roomba 694"
One of iRobot's most popular best affordable robot vacuum vacuums, the 694 is a basic model that's a great option for those who don't want to spend too much on a robot. It could pick up most types of debris in our testing and often went over the same area multiple times to ensure an efficient clean. Its flat front side helps it to reach into corners and along the edges of walls which is a nice touch.
Its intelligent navigation system makes use of iAdapt to avoid obstacles and navigate your home, but it isn't equipped with the mapping capability of more sophisticated models like our top selections, the i3+ EVO and the j7+ series. It may get stuck on phone cords or low furniture and will often run out of power before returning to its base.
The Xiaomi Mi robot vacuum is superior to the Roomba 694 in all aspects in that it has fewer components that require regular cleaning and is equipped with an allergen-trapping HEPA filter, has lower recurring costs, has more advanced automation capabilities and is more efficient in moving itself. It also has a bigger dustbin, and charges more quickly.
The sleek RoboVac X8 has a superior battery longevity than the Roomba 694. It also has physical boundaries strips that can be controlled with your smartphone's voice assistance. It's also more durable, has a stronger motor, and performs better on floors with low pile and bare.
5. Samsung Jet Bot AI+
Samsung is a household name in home electronics. It's not surprising that they are one of the top makers of robot vacuums and mop. Their Jet Bot AI+ is equipped with cutting-edge onboard tech for navigation and obstacle avoidance.
The app provides a range of customization options for your Robotic floor vacuums cleaner. These include virtual barriers, mopping levels and behavior customizations, docking frequency settings and more. The app is easy to navigate and use similar to other Samsung devices.
In our tests, the Jet Bot AI+ performed well on hard floors, and it removed 86 percent of dog hair (on carpet). However, it didn't do particularly well at avoiding higher-up objects like cords or socks, which was disappointing. It's also more expensive than the other models we tested and could be a deterrent for some shoppers.
The app lets you access the camera onboard of the smart vacuum. You can also create live streaming from the robot's cleaning area. This feature lets you check in on pets or the kids if you're away from home. The dustbin and filter can be cleaned for quick, painless cleanup. The Jet Bot AI+ comes with a self-emptying clean station, which helps to keep the robot's bin clear and optimizes suction power.
6. Black & Decker Robot Vacuum
In contrast to other robotic vacuums which are designed for both carpets and hard floors, Black and Decker robots are specifically designed for hard floors. The robots have an extra-wide cleaning path, as well as a dustbin that is 2 times larger than other models. This allows them to keep the area clean for longer. Additionally, they come with two side sweepers to clean up around edges and in corners. The POWERSERIES model includes AutoSense which adjusts the power level based on whether it is collecting dirt that is on the surface or embedded. It also has a smart app that lets you see the virtual map, and control functions and schedules. Additionally, you can track the vacuum's battery status and then return it to its dock to charge at the push of a button. The app lets you modify the LEDs on the top of the vacuum to discern where it is focusing or if it has gotten stuck.
The app allows you to steer the robot vacuum cleaner manually in the event of need. For example, my living room rug has a darkly-colored border that has a tendency to make it difficult for other robots I've tested. However the HRV 425BL kept moving across the border, without registering it as an incline. The ability to create a weekly cleaning schedule is a wonderful time-saving benefit.
