Both the Q5 as well as the Q7 Max Series get very good scores in our bare floor tests and are particularly effective in cleaning pet hair. However, they do have a few flaws, however, that prevent them from being our first option. For one, the Q5's navigation system doesn't include AI-powered obstacle avoidance and is therefore prone to getting hung up on shoes and socks and can't navigate tightly packed rooms very well in our tests. It also doesn't have a camera that would let it see the corners of a room.
However, it's a good choice, especially if you want to save money on an Roomba from iRobot, and you have a mostly unfinished home or office. It's also extremely quiet and can be used when you're at work or in school. The only thing it's missing that you can't find in the pricier iRobot Roomba X30 is edge-to-edge vacuuming on bare floors. It's also less effective in mopping. It is dependent on disposable wet wipes, which don't stick very well and cannot handle dried-on debris. The Q5 is self-emptying cradle however. And, if you have to, you can swap the mopping pad to dry ones in a matter of just a few seconds.
2. iRobot Roomba
The iRobot Roomba X30 packs impressive vacuuming and mopping capabilities into a sleek, compact package. Its quick navigation and smart cleaning maps make it easy to clean and efficient at tackling larger particles like pet hair. It also has an impressive suction system and an automatic bin for emptying. It's the best robotic mop and vacuum robot hoover for carpets, but it isn't as efficient as some of its competitors in deep cleaning.
This high-performing mop and vacuum combination uses advanced sensor technology to avoid obstacles and pet waste and it will learn the layout of your home over time to ensure more efficient cleaning. The app allows you to set up zones and modify the cleaning schedule. It comes with a battery life that is comparable to other models.
When the X30 Ultra is in a carpeted area, you can instruct it to remove and extend its mops. This can help avoid cross-contamination. The flex arm is ideal for getting under low-lying furniture and along baseboards. It's not as effective on the washboard as our other Editors' Choice Picks, the Ecovacs Ozmo N8Pro+ and the iRobot Combo j9+.
During testing, X30 Ultra was the most efficient robot vacuum/mop which could sweep the entire house with just 66 percent of its battery remaining. It did a good cleaning job on different floors and rooms with different flooring types, including some area carpets. Its obstacle detection was great and it stayed clear of fake dog turds, socks, shoes and bundles cables.
It's more expensive than iRobot Combo v9+ or iRobot Roomba j9+ but it has superior suction and an onboard bin that is automatically empty into the base. It also supports voice commands through Amazon Alexa and Google Assistant. It can even clean the floor after vacuuming this feature, which hasn't been seen in other robot vacuum cleaners best vacuum/mop combos.
3. IRobot Roomba X40
The robot vacuum and mop combination features a sleek, circular design that appears more like the regular Roomba model than the bulky models from the competitors. It's one of our most attractive robot vacuums. iRobot's latest flagship model also is its most advanced, with advanced features including Enhanced Dirt Detection Technology and future compatibility with Matter (another company's robot that is able to wash mop pads).
It's also the sole robot vacuum/mop to score the perfect 10/10 out of 10 in our tests. This is thanks to a mix of high-tech sensors, including a structured light system, camera and multiple lasers. The X40 Ultra is also the only robot in our tests that can fully self-refill and empty its base station, and boasts an the industry's highest suction of 12,000Pa and self-cleaning mop pads.
As with other iRobot models as well, the X40 is user-friendly, with a simple mobile app interface as well as integration with Amazon Alexa, Apple HomeKit as well as Google Assistant. The only real drawback is that it's still quite a noisy unit which could be an issue if you use it in the morning prior to work, or at night when you try to fall asleep.
It's also a bit expensive however, not as much as the Ecovacs S8 MaxV Ultra or the Roborock S8 Omni, which are equally impressive and attractive. If you're willing to live some more volume and some additional cost, this is a very capable two-in-one that should please almost everyone.
4. iRobot Roomba L20 Ultra
The L20 Ultra is a top-of-the-range robot vacuum and mop with a lot of advanced features that will let you forget about your chores. Like Ecovacs the range-topping X2 Omni and Roborock's S8 Pro Ultra, the L20 is designed to be a hands-free cleaning machine that can take the care of mopping and vacuuming. It comes with a multifunction dock that automatically emptys the vacuum's dustbin, refills its water tank, washes and dry the mop pads.
The smart robot makes use of LIDAR and structured lighting to draw out floor plans and spot obstacles. It can navigate more efficiently than its premium competitors. It also has a front-mounted camera to detect hazards in real-time but this was not 100% foolproof during our tests and was often confused by power cords or other obstructions.
The vacuum cleaner comes with a maximum suction of 7,000 Pascals which is more than enough to accomplish the task. It also comes with "Intelligent Dirt Detection", that regulates the amount of time the vacuum works and alters the frequency of cleaning for various areas of the house in accordance with how dirty they are.
For bigger homes it's recommended to choose one that has zone or spot cleaning modes that let you tell the robot to clean a particular area of your house by using the app or voice controls. If you have lots of furniture, a stair mode is also a good option. For families with busy schedules, a recharge function and resume feature that allows your robot vacuum to resume where it left off can be very useful.

The RX3 is a cleaner with more intelligence than you would imagine from its price. It does a stellar job cleaning, removing 55% of the debris we found in our tests (it was second only to the Roomba Q5 Pro). It also mops using one pad that has a reciprocating motion that is cleaner than the other robot mop cleaners we've examined. It's also highly self-sufficient, with a full-featured app and a self emptying base that is washable.
The iRobot app is designed to help you navigate a mapping run which collects information about your floorplan as well as any "no go" areas you've marked on the map. It can be used to create cleaning schedules, arrange an area for cleaning or to prioritize your most filthy rooms to ensure better performance. The app offers a variety of options, including seasonal suggestions, custom mapping and advanced cleaning settings.
It can also reach corners and under furniture more easily because its shape is more rectangular. It also has a strong 8000 Pascal suction and combs that are intelligent for hair of pets. And you can create a spot-clean that scours a specific area.
The Miele Scout RX3 Home Vision HD is a more sleek more affordable alternative to iRobot Roomba. It's got a more attractive design, akin to Dolce & Gabbana. The twin cameras are designed to resemble adorable eyes. It is capable of vacuuming but is more prone to get caught on low thresholds and is noisier than the other top robotic vacuums we've tested. It also has a less user-friendly app and a small base station that isn't able to double as a bin for emptying.
