The 10 Scariest Things About Robots That Vacuum And Mop
Robots That Vacuum and Mop
Robots that mop and vacuum offer the convenience of removing dry debris (dust, dirt) and wet mess (spills, stains) in one session without the need to switch out devices. They can also save space compared to two separate units, especially in smaller living spaces.
A good combination bot will offer excellent navigation and obstacle avoidance. Find models that automatically empty their bin and refill their water tank and machine-wash their mopping pads with the dock that is specifically designed for them.
1. Eufy S1 Pro
It has plenty to offer for its low cost, and it's one of the easiest robots we've tested to install. Unpacking is easy and the quick-start manual will have you up and running in no time with an entire dust bag, water tank and hard floor solution.
The S1 Pro is an incredibly powerful machine that can mop and vacuum well. The mops spin at fast speeds and exert 2.2 pounds (1kg) of force, which makes short work of pet hair, dirt and dried sticky spills. The vacuum cleaner has four power settings, as well as a selection of brushes and attachments as well as an intuitive app which lets you select the type of cleaning you want for each room.
You could, for instance request the robot to clean the kitchen and the living room thoroughly, but leave the spare bedroom alone. The S1 Pro has excellent front collision sensors as well as smart navigation technology. It is able to detect small obstacles that other models can't. Its only issue is that the robot is known to smash into objects and walls at full speed. However looking at the history of cleaning on the app will tell you exactly what the robot has accomplished, where it's traveling, and what obstacles it has encountered or avoided.
A large LCD screen on the docking station shows you when maintenance jobs must be completed, such as emptying the debris tray and washing the water tank that is dirty. It's also able to mix detergent automatically into the water tank by using a 600ml bottle filled with eufy's own solution.
Both the S1 Pro vacuum and mop are able to run for a long time as well, with the mop being capable of operating for an 184-minute runtime in Quiet mode and the vacuum able to do 136 minutes in normal mode before needing to recharge or return to the base to replenish. And you can see the full cleaning details in the app, which is intuitively laid out and is easy to comprehend, though we would have liked to be able distinguish between a vacuum only or a vacuum/mop clean when examining a cleaned area in the history of cleaning.
2. Roborock S8 Pro Ultra
The Roborock S8 Pro Ultra, the latest version of Roborock's most popular robot vacuum and mop is the most up-to-date version. This year's model has two agitators built into its mopping pad. This increases the carpet cleaning capabilities of this model. The S8 Pro Ultra has an improved suction power that allows it to pick up smaller hairs as well as other debris other robotic cleaners might miss.
This Roborock model, just like the other two models I tested, has infrared and reactive 3D obstacle avoidance technology to help it avoid obstacles such as walls, furniture and other obstacles. But the S8 Pro Ultra takes things an extra step by having a dual camera that can detect objects and decide whether they're a wall or another type of surface. It then can automatically alter its path and clean them without missing a beat.
It's the most expensive model I've tested, but it also has the most features. Its sleek, angular style is attractive and it only has three physical buttons which include the power button which also resumes cleaning; a mop-only button that doubles as a child lock and a home button that can return the robot to its dock. The hinged lid can be opened to reveal a 350ml dustbin as well as a 200ml water tank. The water tank will empty itself and the bin is auto-filling.
The only issue I encountered with this model was that the VibraRise mop pads mount isn't movable. It is possible to change the mopping cloth if required, but it's not easy to remove the mount for washing manually. I've observed that any carpet that the robot crosses will be in contact with the rough Velcro like fastener on mount, which can cause abrasions.
The S8 Pro Ultra has a number of smart features, including support for Google Home, Amazon Alexa and Siri. You can configure and manage these through the Roborock app that is also home to its maps and advanced mopping settings. The app allows you to schedule cleanings and monitor the life of batteries and maintenance on components. You'll need to jump through some hoops to activate voice control on this model. It's a shame, considering how efficient it is otherwise.
