Charles the Humble Technician teaches how to replace the G28 Engine Speed Sensor. This sensor is located near the transmission's edge over the flywheel gear. It transmits a signal to the ECU via an uncolored wire T55/49, then to the tachometer in the instrument cluster.
1. Engine Speed Sensor
The grey wire is situated on the outside of the transmission, directly above the flywheel ring. The sensor transmits an electrical signal through the grey wire to pin T55/49. The ECU then utilizes this information to regulate the flow of fuel, timig and boost. It also sends an indicator replacement audi a3 key to the G5 Tachometer in instrument cluster.
The sensor is used as a reference to correlate with the G40 Camshaft Position Sensor. The ecu must know when the crankshaft is TDC and the location of the camshaft so it can start spark and injectors in the right way.
If this sensor fails to function, the ECU will display an error code P00160. This indicates that the Crank Shaft is out of line with the Intake Camshaft. It could also be a sign of a chain stretch or a jump in the chain link of the upper chain of timing. However, the error code won't appear on its own, without additional information from other sensors (G4 and G40).
Testing is a bit challenging because there are two connector pins, and they perform different functions however the best method of testing it is to measure resistance between the sensor and the ECU. When the sensor is operational, it should read approximately 1000 ohms. Look for signs of coolant, or oil in the connector bay if you have problems with this part.
2. Injectors
Yesterday, while accelerating from the highway paytoll at a high speed, i noticed a huge drop in power. It was like the engine was running out of gas. Or my injectors weren't firing. I took out the spark plugs this morning, three were drenched in gasoline and the fourth was dry. When i crank the engine without sparks, i place a tissue on the top of each hole in the injector, the 3 drenched with gazoline jump out but the 4th stays closed. I tested the ground connection of ECU pins 14,30, and 48/55. I got 0ohm. I assume that the problem is in another location.
I also tried to reset the PID with no success. The car will start when the G28 is disconnected, but it works fine when the G28 connected. However, the intermittent misfire problem still occurs at higher RPM. The coolant sensor (G62), even if it is not plugged in, shows an ice temperature of -49c. Also i noticed that the gauge for oil pressure in the cockpit shows 2 bar when the actual pressure is 0.0 when I crank up the engine.
I don't know what to do. I believe that I've ruled everything else out. But i am afraid I might have missed something. Let me know should you have any suggestions! TIA!
3. Fuel Pump
The fuel pump in the g28 can be activated by a signal sent from the RPM sensor. The GM-style transmitter is identical to the G4 sender and works on the 80,100,200, UrS, and RS2 vehicles. You can easily locate an extra in a wrecking shop or a parts store. It is easy to test them - just put your DMM into resistance mode and measure the distance between pins 1 and 2 (with the bump on the connector's edge facing upwards). They must be infinite Ohms.
4. ECU
The ECU of our 20vt turbo (3B AAN ABY ADU) engines must know the speed and position of the crankshaft to determine timing of the fuel injector, etc. It uses a Crank Position Sensor G4 and an Engine Speed Sensor G28 to accomplish this. If you encounter a problem with either one of these, the diagnostic scanner will display codes that could lead to an engine shut down.
A failing G28 sensor could result in an inaccurate speed counter for your gearbox, a gearbox that shifts more quickly than normal, and/or a misfire in gear. It is likely that the sensor is failing and needs to be replaced if you encounter any of these symptoms. They're inexpensive and easy to locate, especially when they're a Bosch unit like ours. You can also choose the GM version of this unit is also a good option.
5. Tachometer
A faulty engine speed sensor could be a cause for many problems in your replacement audi car key. It is an important part of the transmission in your audi a4 key replacement because it relays information to the ECU regarding how fast or slowly the engine of the car is spinning. This sensor can cause the transmission to fail and other components of the car to be affected.
The G5 engine speed sensor is located at the edge of the transmission, above the flywheel ring gear. It sends a signal directly to the ECU at pin T55/49, via an uncolored wire. The ECU then uses and processes the signal to control fuel, timig, and boost as well as sends it on to the G5 tachometer in the instrument cluster. You can test the sensor for failure by examining the continuity between it and the tachometer, between ECU pin T55/49 and the instrument cluster connection to pin T6a/1 (trace [79trace [79]) and between T6a/1 and the instrument cluster pin T26a/12. There should be an average resistance of 1000 ohms between these points. This is the same across the audi a1 car key 80-100-200-RS2 model, ranging from the 1985 MC up to the 1997 UrS An and 1995 RS2 DU You may also find some good ones in wrecking yards.
