YECs are the most well known type of creationist and they believe that God created the universe in the exact way described in the Bible. They believe that the biblical account of the six days of creation is true, and that the universe and life on Earth began only recently.

OECs are not as well-known however they are as committed to their beliefs as YECs. OECs believe that the universe and Earth are billions of years old and believe that evolution is a myth.

Both forms of creationism deny that scientific principles such as natural selection and abiogenesis are able to explain the origin of life on Earth. They argue that evolution is impossible because it would require an extraordinary event, and that the scientists who founded modern science shied away from miracles due to fear that they would lose credibility.

Some creationists accept naturalistic evolution and special creation, and refer to their belief as "theistic evolution." This is also known as "continuous evolutionism" or the "evolution of created kinds." In this theory, God creates the original species and then allows them to evolve over time. These evolution changes will eventually result in new species similar to the original.

Some creationists believe that God created all living things and the entire universe in one event known as the Great Flood. These creationists believe that the original species were all created at the same time, and that they evolved slowly afterwards. They also reject the concept of abiogenesis, and argue that the emergence of self-replicating organisms from nonliving matter is unattainable.

In general, the creationists are against teaching of evolution in schools. What is Creationism in Korea?

When people think of creationism most often, they think of the United States. However, South Korea is also home to an anti-evolutionist movement. The publishers of high school textbooks recently announced that they would remove the mention of evolution in their books. The Society for Textbook Revise, an independent body that is an offshoot from the Korea Association for Creation Research (KACCR), has led this campaign. The STR has won its first victory by removing from textbooks the evidence of the evolution and ancestor of the avian, called the Archeopteryx. It is now focusing on removing snippets of Darwin's notorious finch research and on human evolution too.

STR claims that it has the backing of 4,000 families and members. Its aim is to root out what it regards as the "atheist materialism" that creates a bleak worldview for students. It also aims to counteract the influence of American creationists who live in the US. A survey of students in biology revealed that half of them did not believe in evolution. The reasons for this aren't entirely clear, but could include religious beliefs or the absence of creation scientists in the United States.

The KACR has achieved a lot through its seminars and lectures in the past. It publishes a bimonthly magazine called Creation and the book. One of them was an educational textbook on natural sciences that had a creationist perspective. It sparked interest in the college community. In 1991 an academic and minister started teaching Creation Science in one university, and it is taught to this day.

On August 6th and 7th of 1993, KACR hosted a second International Symposium on Creation Research. The event was held in conjunction with the opening of the World Expo in Daejeon. Six lecturers from around the world including ICR's John Morris, Duane Gish, and Steven Austin spoke to audiences of a few thousand. KACR members and KACR have also given lectures on creation science in prestigious seminaries. KACR plans to establish a Creation Science Education Center.
