Path of Exile item upgrading Upgrades

Item upgrades are a common and essential way to boost the performance of many items in Path of Exile. They can be a great source of damage or more AD or even more affixes.

Rare-grade equipment is often superior to the more modernized Common or Magic equipment due to their high demands.

Armor

Armor upgrades are a kind of upgrade that can be applied to armor and weapon items. They improve the stats of whatever item upgrader kit they are connected to. Armor upgrades can be found in the game's world and can be purchased from Blacksmiths at any bonfire. They can also be salvaged by using a professional or higher salvage kits to retrieve upgrade components from items.

The level of an armor's or weapon's upgrade determines the amount of damage it will absorb. A piece of armor upgraded to its highest upgrade item level will boost its damage absorption. It is important to note that this will increase the weight of the armor, so it must be heavier.

There are a variety of armor upgrade available in the game. Each has a different effect. Certain upgrades grant armor an additional number of health points while others make it lighter and more powerful. The type of armor upgrade that an item can get is indicated by the name of the upgrade, as shown in the table below.

Certain upgrades require magic or a combination of technology and magic, as identified by the "Magic" and "Hybrids" entries in the table below. Certain upgrades also require fees to use. They are referred to as "Charges" entries in the table. The charges for these upgrades are updated daily or never expire, depending on the upgrade.

The cheapest way to upgrade armor is with Iron Ore, which can be gathered by exploring the environment and looting small loot chests. Titanium is more expensive, however, it is available in the smelters of Orgrimmar and Stormwind City. Certain upgrades, such as the Reforge and the Hot Potato Books, can only be applied to high level armor pieces. These upgrades can provide a significant improvements in stats and are a worthwhile investment, particularly for one-handed weapons.

The player must be aware that upgrading a piece to its maximum upgrade level will increase its defense values. However, it can also affect its agility and speed. It is not recommended to upgrade armor above +9. The defensive boost gained generally isn't worth the weight and power cost of the upgrades.

Weapons

Weapon upgrades let players increase the effectiveness of specific aspects of a weapon. For instance an upgrade item can improve the damage that is caused by a shotgun's shells or the accuracy of the rifle sniper. Certain firearms have enhancements to enhance their intrinsic characteristics. Frictionless materials (improves stability, and reduces weapon overheating), and Kinetic coils (increases the projectile's speed to cause more damage) are two examples.

The majority of weapon upgrades require a whetblade. It's one of three Power Dices and a different amount of Minerals and Erons. They can be obtained by completing Side Quests, killing a certain number of bosses or monsters, or by contacting the Weapon Upgrade NPC located in Central Flarine.

To upgrade the weapon, equipment set piece or Whetblade you need to visit the NPC [Armor] Boboko located in Central Flarine, and pay her an upgrade fee of a specific amount of Bars. The higher the upgrade level, the more bars required to complete it. If you have multiple upgrade materials, the cost of upgrading will be less.

In Chapter 2: Season 5, the ways to upgrade your equipment and weapon sets changed a little. In the past, you could seek out an Upgrade Bench and pay a set amount of Bars to upgrade your equipment or weapon to an increased rarity. You could do this until you reached a max upgrade level of the equipment or weapon, following which the upgrades would reset.

You can still do this but the process is high on RNG and low on agency. Instead, you're much better off visiting stores and buying equipment with low upgrade levels, but good base scores and stat distributions. These gears have a better likelihood of granting you most prestigious tier of advantages and benefits.

The majority of players will make the most of upgrades to weapons they use most frequently to make sure they are able to level up quicker. Players should also upgrade the weapons that their teammates utilize to increase their power. Shepard for instance, should upgrade the M92F in order to unlock the Beretta M93R. This will make the weapon more useful when accompanied with biotic specialists such as Grunt and Tali.

Jewels

Jewels can be used to boost the stats of a character or to provide additional effects in weapons and armor. Jewelry crafting is the process of making them, where you combine gemstones with specific reagents in a jewelry table. The higher the grade of the gem, the greater the secondary effect. These reagents can be found around the world from Treasure Goblins, World Bosses and occasionally by salvaging Legendary gear. You can also buy them from The Jeweler for gold and a Scattered Prism.

The Jeweler can improve the quality of a gem in stages ranging from Crude up to Royal. Based on the tier of the jewel it can provide different stat boosts when inserted into gear, weapons and jewelry.

The Jeweler is able to create the highest levels of gems except for the rare and legendary ones, which you must be at a certain level to get. In contrast to other upgrade components, jewels can be swapped out with a jewel of the same kind without destroying it. However, you can only replace a jewel in an equipment piece once.

It is typical to use more jewelry to enhance the appearance of. The jewels also improve performance and make a harder surface than steel so that repeated friction from pivots do not damage them.

In addition to the above-mentioned upgrades players can also acquire glyphs for their weapons and shields from a Glyphmaster. These glyphs give a slight boost in power and can be swapped, but they're not guaranteed to show up as loot. Glyphs are upgradeable, as jewelry, by visiting the Jeweler for gold, and also Scattered Crystal. Glyphs may also be removed and returned to the inventory. Other upgrade components, like traits and aegis aren't swappable and can only be retrieved using an Upgrade Extractor or salvaging them with a Black Lion Salvage Kit or Ascended Salvage Tool.

Trinkets

Trinkets can provide your hero with many small, but beneficial, advantages. They are available in the start-up area as loot or personal story rewards. They are also available from vendors and by doing road interaction. They can be found on the Trading Post, or crafted by jewelers.

The first trinket that a player will unlock is the cloak. It provides a tiny, but useful bonus in speed of movement and the ability to escape. The player can then collect rings, amulets and necklaces, in a similar way as they did with weapons and armor. Every piece of equipment has a slot for an upgrade which can be universal or jewel. Universal upgrades are smaller and can be used on any device. Jewels cannot be upgraded or replaced and are only compatible with certain trinkets.

These trinkets grant additional buffs and abilities that are active when the hero isn't fighting. This enables the hero to be more effective while inactive and may also help fill in the void of a solid team or the absence of any slots from the talent tree that would normally be filled with hero's ideal stats.

In general trinket upgrades should be prioritized over BiS (Best in Slot) items you won't replace in the near future. Then, you should consider any items with desirable statistics that aren't as significant as the iLevel of the item upgrade (my sources) to be upgraded. This is especially true if an item has multiple stats you wish to upgrade, as it's often better to upgrade just one important stat than two sub-optimal ones.

Jungle players will often upgrade their yellow trinket to a red trinket at the beginning of the game. Mid and top players however they will select either a pink or green ward, depending on the matchup. These choices will have a major impact on the hero's abilities to control maps.

In addition to the items listed above, players can discover a variety of other trinkets in the game in the form of trophies and awards. These can be earned by completing certain milestones in the story. For instance, finishing the main quest of a chapter or beating a boss. These can be viewed by selecting the relevant achievement in the reward tab of the hero menu.
