1. Roomba Q5 Pro

The Q5 Pro, and its more expensive counterpart the Q7 Max Series are among the most powerful robotic vacuums that we have test. They feature motors that are top of the class and can handle up to 5,500 Pascals. Like other premium iRobots (including the most powerful model), they use smart mapping to produce precise floorplans that avoid obstacles like furniture legs. They also feature a feature called carpet boost that increases the robot's power when it spots a lot of dirt on the carpet in order to get it cleaned quickly.

Both the Q5 as well as the Q7 Max Series get very good scores in our bare floor tests and are particularly effective in removing pet hair. However, they have a few flaws that keep them from being our top pick. For one, the Q5's navigation system doesn't include AI-powered obstacle avoidance which means it's susceptible to getting hung up on socks and shoes and couldn't navigate rooms with a lot of people efficiently in our tests. It also doesn't have an image sensor that lets it see the corners of an area.

It's still a good value, especially if your office or home has lots of unfinished flooring and you're looking to save some money. It's also very quiet and can be used when you're at work or school. The only thing it lacks that you can't find in the pricier iRobot Roomba X30 is edge-to-edge vacuuming on floors that aren't clean. And it's less effective at mopping, using disposable wet wipes that don't hold on very well and can't deal with dried-on debris. The Q5 has a self-emptying dock, though. If you're in need of it, the mopping pad can be replaced with a wet one in just a few seconds.

2. IRobot Roomba X30

The iRobot Roomba X30 packs impressive mopping and vacuuming into a compact, sleek package. Its agile navigation and intelligent cleaning maps make it simple to clean and effective at dealing with larger particles such as pet hair. It also has strong suction and self-emptying bin. It's the best robot hoover for carpets but it falls behind some competitors when it comes to deep cleaning.

This top-performing combination vacuum and mop uses advanced sensor technology to avoid obstacles and pet waste, and it also learns your home's layout over time for more efficient cleaning. The app allows you to modify zones and alter the cleaning schedule. It has a battery lifespan that is comparable to other models.

You can tell the X30 Ultra to remove its mops and extend them when it's in a carpeted area which prevents cross-contamination. Its flex arm is also perfect for getting under low-lying furniture and along baseboards. It's not as efficient on the washboard as our other Editors' Choice Picks, the Ecovacs Ozmo N8Pro+ and the iRobot Combo j9+.

During testing, X30 Ultra was the quickest robot vacuum/mop that could clean an entire home, with 66 per cent of its battery remaining. It did a great cleaning job on various flooring and rooms with different flooring types including some area carpets. Its obstacle detection was top-notch and it was nimbly avoiding fake dog socks, turds, shoes and cables.

It's more expensive than iRobot Combo v9+ or iRobot Roomba j9+ but it has superior suction and an onboard bin that automatically empties into the base. It also supports voice commands using Amazon Alexa and Google Assistant. It can even clean the floor after it vacuums it, something we've not seen on other robot vacuum/mop combos.

3. iRobot Roomba X40

With a sleek circular design that appears more like a normal Roomba than the competition's compact models this robot vacuum and mop combo is one of the most attractive designs in our reviews. The latest model from iRobot is among the most intelligent and has advanced features like enhanced dirt detection technology and future compatibility with Matter (another company's robot that is able to wash mop pads).

It's the only robotic vacuum/mop that has 100% in our tests, thanks to a combination of high-tech sensors, including cameras, a structured light system and multiple lasers. The X40 Ultra was the only robot we tested that could fill and empty its basestation on its own. It also boasted a suction of 12,000Pa as well as self-cleaning mop mops.

Like other iRobot models like the X40 is easy to use, offering a simple mobile app interface as well as integration with Amazon Alexa, Apple HomeKit, and Google Assistant. The only downside is that the X40 still a noisy unit. This could be a problem in the mornings prior to work or at night when you are trying to fall asleep.

It's also somewhat expensive, though it's not as expensive as the Ecovacs X2 Omni or Roborock's S8 MaxV Ultra both of which are equally capable and look better. If you're willing with a little more noise and some additional cost it's a efficient two-in-one device that should delight most.

iRobot L20 Ultra

The L20 Ultra is a top-of-the-range robot vacuum cleaner vacuum and mop, with a variety of sophisticated features to help you forget about your chores. The L20 Ultra is a hands-free cleaner, similar to Ecovacs' top-of-the-range X2 Omni or Roborock's S8 Pro Ultra. It has a multifunction dock which automatically empty the vacuum's bin and fills up the water tank, and washes and dry mop pads.

The smart robot utilizes LIDAR and structured lighting to map out floorplans and identify obstacles. It is more efficient in its navigation than its competitors with premium features. It also comes with a front-mounted camera for real-time detection of hazards but this wasn't foolproof in our tests and could be confused with obstructions or power cords.

The vacuum has a maximum suction of 7,000 Pascals, which is more than enough to finish the job. It also features "Intelligent Dirt Detection", which regulates the intensity at which the vac works and adjusts the frequency of cleaning for different areas of your home according to the amount of dirt they are.

If you have a larger home, you should consider choosing a model that has zones or spot cleaning modes. This lets you instruct the robot vacuum cleaners best on which part of your house needs to be cleaned by using the app or voice control. A stairway mode is useful if you have a lot furniture. For families with busy schedules recharge functions and resume feature that allows your robot vacuum to pick up where it left off can be extremely useful.

5. iRobot Roomba RX3

The RX3 is a cleaner with more intelligence than you would expect from its price tag. It's a pro at vacuuming, picking up 55% of debris in our tests (it was second only to the Roomba Q5 Pro). It also mopses with one pad that has a reciprocating motion, which cleans better than most of the other mop cleaners for robots we've tested. It's also extremely self-sufficient, with a fully-featured app, and a self emptying base that is washable.

The iRobot application is designed to guide you through an exercise in mapping which collects information about your floorplan as well as any "no go" areas you've marked on the map. It can be used to design cleaning schedules or set up an automatic spot-clean. It can also be used to it to prioritize your dirtiest areas for better performance. The app also grants access to many features, such as seasonal suggestions, custom maps and advanced settings for your cleaning robot mop and vacuum.

Its shape is more rectangular than other robot vacuums, meaning it can get to corners and under furniture more easily. It also has a strong 8,000 Pascal suction and combs with intelligent technology for hair of pets. And you can set up a spot clean that intensely cleans a localized area.

The Miele Scout RX3 Home Vision HD is a more sleek, cheaper alternative to iRobot Roomba. It's more appealing, Dolce & Gabbana-esque design and its twin cameras look like cute eyes. It is excellent at vacuuming, but it's more likely to get stuck on low thresholds. It is also noisier than other top robot vacuums we have tested. It also comes with an app that's less intuitive and has a tiny base station that can't double as a bin to empty.
