They also feature a feature called carpet boost that boosts the robot's performance when it detects a lot of dirt on the carpet to get it cleaned quickly.

The Q5 and Q7 Max Series both scored extremely well in our tests on bare floors, and they are particularly adept in removing hair from dogs. However, they do have a few flaws that keep them from being our top pick. One of the flaws of the Q5 is its navigation system does not include AI-powered obstacle avoidance. It's therefore prone to getting stuck on socks and shoes, and it couldn't navigate densely packed rooms very well in our tests. It doesn't also come with a camera to look around corners.

It's still a great deal particularly if your home or office has lots of unfinished floors and you're looking to save money. Additionally, it's quiet and can work while you're at work or going to school. The only thing it's missing that you can't find in the pricier iRobot Roomba X30 is edge-to-edge vacuuming of floors with no floor. And it's less effective at mopping, as it relies on disposable wet wipes that don't hold on very well and can't take on dried-on debris. The Q5 does come with an auto-emptying dock, however. And, if you need to, you can swap the mopping pad to a dry one in just a few seconds.

2. IRobot Roomba

The iRobot Roomba X30 is a compact, sleek vacuum cleaner that also has the ability to mop floors. Its nimble navigation and intelligent cleaning maps make it simple to clean and efficient in dealing with larger particles such as pet hair. It also has a self-emptying dustbin with powerful suction and support for virtual boundaries. It's the best robot hoover for carpets, though it's not as effective as some rivals in deep cleaning.

This top-performing combination vacuum and mop makes use of advanced sensors to dodge obstacles and pet waste and it also learns your home's layout over time to ensure more efficient cleaning. You can change its cleaning schedule and set up zones using the app that is well-designed. It comes with a battery life that is similar to other models.

Its obstacle detection was top-of-the-line and it was nimbly avoiding fake dog socks, turds, shoes and cables.

It's a bit more expensive than iRobot Combo v9+ or iRobot Roomba j9+ but offers superior suction and an onboard bin that is automatically empty into the base. It also supports voice commands via Amazon Alexa and Google Assistant. It can even clean the floor after it vacuums it, something we've not seen on other robotic vacuum/mop combos.

3. Roomba X40 from iRobot

This robot vacuum and mop combination features a sleek, circular design that appears more like a regular Roomba model than the boxy models of the competition. It's among our most appealing looking robot vacuums. iRobot’s latest flagship model is also its smartest. It has advanced features such as Enhanced Dirt Detection and future compatibility (another company's robot vacuum cleaner that can wash mop pads in a self-cleaning manner).

It's the only robotic vacuum/mop that scored 100% in our evaluations, thanks to a combination of high-tech sensors, which include cameras, a structured light system and multiple lasers. The X40 Ultra is also the only robot we tested that is fully autonomously refill and empty its base station and boasts an the industry's highest suction of 12,000Pa and self-cleaning mop pads.

As with other iRobot models, the X40 is user-friendly, offering a simple mobile app interface as well as integration with Amazon Alexa, Apple HomeKit, and Google Assistant. The only downside is that the X40 still a noisy unit. This can be a problem in the mornings prior to work or at night when you're trying to sleep.

It's also quite expensive, but it's not as expensive as the Ecovacs Omni or Roborock S8 MaxV Ultra both of which are similarly capable and more attractive. This is a two-in-one vacuum that's extremely powerful however, it's more expensive and make more noise.

4. iRobot Roomba L20 Ultra

The L20 Ultra is a top-of-the-range robot vacuum and mop, with a variety of sophisticated features that let you forget about your chores. The L20 Ultra is a hands-free cleaning device that is similar to Ecovacs the top of the line X2 Omni or Roborock's S8 Pro Ultra. It features a multi-functional dock that can automatically emptys the vacuum's bin and fills up the water tank, and cleans and dry mop pads.

The smart robot makes use of LIDAR and structured lighting to draw out floor plans and detect obstacles. It can navigate more efficiently than its top competitors. It also comes with a front-mounted camera for real-time detection of hazards, although this wasn't quite reliable in our tests and was occasionally confused by power cords or other obstructions.

Its vacuum has a suction capacity of 7,000 Pascals which is more than enough to complete the task. It also comes with an attribute called "Intelligent Dirt Detection", which regulates the power of the vacuum and adjusts the frequency of cleaning for various areas of the house depending on how dirty the areas tend to be.

For larger houses, it's worth opting for a model with zone or spot cleaning modes that allow you to instruct the robot to clean one particular area of your home via the app or voice controls. If you have a lot of furniture, a stairway mode is also a good option. For families with busy schedules recharge functions and resume feature that permits your robot vacuum to resume where it left off could be extremely useful.

5. iRobot Roomba RX3

The RX3 is more advanced than its price would suggest. It is a great job vacuuming, removing 55% of the debris that was found in our tests (it was second only to the Roomba Q5 Pro). It also mops using one pad that has a reciprocating motion, which is cleaner than the other robot mop cleaners we've examined. It's also highly self-sufficient, with a full-featured app and a self-emptying base that is washable.

The iRobot application is designed to guide you through an exercise in mapping, which gathers information on your floorplan and any "no go" areas you've marked on the map. You can use it to create cleaning schedules, set up the perfect spot for cleaning or prioritize your most filthy rooms to improve performance. The app comes with a variety of features, including seasonal suggestions, custom mapping, and advanced cleaning settings.

Its shape is more rectangular than most other robot vacuums, meaning it can reach corners and under furniture more easily. It also has strong 8,000 Pascal suction and intelligent combs for pet hair. It also has the ability to set up a spot clean that thoroughly cleans a particular area.

The Miele Scout RX3 Home Vision HD is a sleeker and cheaper alternative to the iRobot Roomba. It's got a more attractive design, similar to Dolce & Gabbana. The twin cameras are designed to resemble cute little eyes. It is great at vacuuming, but it's more likely to be caught on low thresholds. It is also louder than other top robot vacuums we've tested. It also has a less user-friendly app and a small base station that can't be used as a bin for emptying.
