The Q5 and Q7 Max Series both scored very well in our tests on floors that were bare, and they are particularly adept in cleaning dog hair. They do have some flaws, however, that prevent them from being our top choice. One of the weaknesses of the Q5 is that its navigation system doesn't include AI-powered obstacle avoidance. It's thus susceptible to get stuck on shoes and socks and could not navigate densely packed rooms very efficiently during our tests. It also doesn't have a camera to see around corners.

Still, it's very good for those who want to save money on an Roomba from iRobot and have a mostly bare-floor home or office. It's also very quiet and can be used while you're at work or school. It's not equipped with the edge-to-edge floor vacuuming offered in the more expensive iRobot Roomba X30. It's also less effective at mopping, using disposable wet wipes, which don't stick on for long and don't take on dried-on debris. The Q5 has a self-emptying cradle, however. If you want to, you can switch the mopping pad for dry ones in a matter of seconds.

2. IRobot Roomba

The iRobot Roomba X30 packs impressive mopping and vacuuming into a compact, sleek package. Its intelligent cleaning maps and fluid navigation make it simple to clean, and effective in tackling larger particles, like pet hair. It also has a self-emptying bin with powerful suction and support for virtual boundaries. It's the most efficient robotic hoover for carpets, however it's not as good as other hoovers in terms of deep cleaning.

This high-performing mop and vacuum combination uses advanced sensor technology to avoid obstacles and pet waste, and it will learn the layout of your home over time to ensure more efficient cleaning. The app allows you to modify zones and alter the cleaning schedule. Its battery life is average in comparison to similar models.

It is possible to instruct the X30 Ultra to remove its mops and to extend them when it's in a carpeted room which prevents cross-contamination. The flex arm can be used to reach beneath furniture with low levels and along baseboards. It also did an excellent job cleaning a range of rooms and floors with mixed flooring types, including certain area rugs. Its obstacle detection was superb, and it avoided fake dog turds, socks, shoes and bundles cables.

It's a bit more expensive than the iRobot Combo v9+ and iRobot Roomba j9+, however, it comes with superior suction, a dustbin on board that automatically fills up its base, and supports voice commands via Amazon Alexa and Google Assistant. It is able to clean floors even after it vacuums. This is a feature that we haven't seen on other robotic vacuum/mop combinations.

3. iRobot Roomba X40

This mop and vacuum combination features a sleek, circular look that looks much like a Roomba model than the bulky models from the competitors. It is one of our most attractive robot vacuums. The newest model from iRobot is its most advanced, with advanced features including Enhanced Dirt Detection Technology and future compatibility with Matter (another company's robot that can wash its own mop pads).

It's the only robotic mop or vacuum that scored 100% in our tests due to a mix of high-tech sensors, which include cameras, a structured lighting system and multiple lasers. The X40 Ultra was the only robot we tested that could refill and empty its basestation in a self-contained manner. It also boasted an industry-leading suction of 12,000Pa as well as self-cleaning mops.

As with other iRobot models like the X40 is easy to use, offering an easy mobile app interface as well as integration with Amazon Alexa, Apple HomeKit as well as Google Assistant. The only issue is that it's an eerily noisy device, which can be an issue if you use it in the morning prior to work, or at night when you attempt to sleep.

It's also somewhat expensive, although it's not as expensive as the Ecovacs X2 Omni or the Roborock S8 MaxV Ultra, both of which are similarly capable and better-looking. This is a dual-purpose vacuum that is very efficient, but it's going to cost you more and create more noise.

iRobot L20 Ultra

The L20 Ultra is the top-of-the best robot mop and vacuum. It comes with a variety of advanced features that will help you forget your chores. The L20 Ultra is a hands-free cleaning device like Ecovacs the top of the line X2 Omni or Roborock's S8 Pro Ultra. It features a multi-functional dock that can automatically empty the vacuum's bin, refills the water tank, and washes and drys mop pads.

The smart robot employs the combination of LIDAR and structured light to create the floor plan and detect obstacles, navigating more intelligently than its top rivals. It also comes with a front-mounted camera for real-time hazards detection but this wasn't 100% reliable in our tests and was often confused with power cords or obstructions.

Its vacuum has a suction capacity of 7,000 Pascals which is more than enough to complete the task. It also has "Intelligent Dirt Detection", which regulates how hard the vacuum mop cleaner robot works and adjusts the frequency of cleaning for different areas of your home depending on the degree of dirt they tend to be.

If you have a larger home, it is worth selecting a robot that comes with zones or spot cleaning modes. This allows you to instruct the robot vacuum and mop on which part of your home must be cleaned with the help of an app or voice command. If you have lots of furniture, a stairway mode is also a good option. For families with busy schedules recharge functions and resume feature that allows your robot vacuum to resume where it left off could be very useful.

iRobot RX3

The RX3 is more sophisticated than its price suggests. It vacuums well and was able to remove 55% of debris in our tests. (It was only second to the Roomba Q5 Pro). It also mopses using one pad and a reciprocating movement that is more efficient than most of the mop cleaners with robots that we've tested. It's self-sufficient too, with a full-featured app and a self-emptying, washable base.

The iRobot app is designed to help you navigate the mapping process which collects information about your floorplan and any "no go" areas you've marked on the map. You can use it to create cleaning schedules, set up an area for cleaning or to sort out your rooms with the most dirt to improve performance. The app has a range of features, such as seasonal suggestions, custom mapping and advanced cleaning settings.

It also has the ability to reach corners and under furniture better because its shape is more rectangular. It is equipped with a powerful 8,000 Pascal suction and intelligent combs to remove pet hair. And you can set up a spot cleaning that intensely cleans a localized area.

The Miele Scout RX3 Home Vision HD is a more sleek more affordable alternative to iRobot Roomba. It has a more attractive, Dolce & Gabbana-esque design and its twin cameras look like cute eyes. It is excellent at vacuuming, but it is more likely to get caught in low thresholds. It is also louder than other top robot vacuums that we have examined. It also has an app that's not as intuitive and a small base station that can't double as a bin for emptying.
