The Q5 and Q7 Max Series both scored extremely well in our tests on floors that were bare, and they are particularly adept in cleaning hair from dogs. They do have some flaws however, which prevent them from being our top option. One of them is that the Q5's navigation system doesn't include AI-powered obstacle avoidance and is therefore prone to become entangled in shoes and socks and can't navigate rooms with a lot of people well in our tests. It also doesn't have a camera that can see around corners.

It's still a great option for those who want to save money on an Roomba from iRobot and have a mostly bare-floor home or office. It's also extremely quiet and works while you're at work or in school. It's not equipped with the edge-to-edge floor vacuuming feature that's offered in the more expensive iRobot Roomba X30. It's also less effective at mopping. It relies on disposable wet wipes that don't adhere well and aren't able to deal with dried-on debris. The Q5 does come with self-emptying docks, however. And, if you need to change the mopping pad for dry ones in just a few minutes.

2. iRobot Roomba

The iRobot Roomba X30 is a compact elegant vacuum cleaner that can mop floors. Its intelligent cleaning maps as well as nimble navigation make it easy to clean and effective in tackling larger particles, like pet hair. It also has a powerful suction and an automatic hoover bin for emptying. It's the most efficient robotic hoover for carpets, but it isn't as effective as some of its competitors when it comes to deep cleaning.

It's a little more expensive than iRobot Combo v9+ or iRobot Roomba j9+ but offers superior suction and an onboard bin that is automatically empty into the base. It also supports voice commands via Amazon Alexa and Google Assistant. It is able to clean floors even after it vacuums. This is a feature we haven't seen in other robot vacuum/mop combination.

3. iRobot Roomba X40

With a sleek circular design that looks more like a normal Roomba than the competitors' compact models, this mop and robot vacuum cleaner uk vacuum is one of the most appealing looking in our evaluations. iRobot’s latest flagship model is also among its most advanced. It has advanced features such as Enhanced Dirt Detection and future compatibility (another company’s robot that can wash mop pads on its own).

It's the only robot vacuum/mop that has an exemplary 10/10 in our testing due to a mix of high-tech sensors, including cameras, a structured light system, and multiple lasers. The X40 Ultra is also the only robot we tested that can completely autonomously refill and empty its base station, and boasts an industry-leading 12,000Pa suction and self-cleaning mop pads.

As with other iRobot models as well, the X40 is user-friendly, with a simple mobile app interface and integration with Amazon Alexa, Apple HomeKit as well as Google Assistant. The only issue is that the X40 still a noisy unit. This could be a problem in mornings prior to work or in the evening when you're trying to sleep.

It's also a bit expensive, but not as expensive as the Ecovacs MaxV Ultra or the Roborock S8 Omni, which are equally impressive and attractive. This is a two-in-one auto vacuum and mop that is very efficient, but it's going to cost you more and create more noise.

iRobot L20 Ultra

The L20 Ultra is a top-of-the-range robot vacuum and mop, with a variety of sophisticated features to help you get rid of your chores. Similar to Ecovacs' range-topping X2 Omni and Roborock's S8 Pro Ultra, the L20 is designed to be a hands-free cleaning machine that takes care of both mopping and vacuuming. It comes with a multifunction dock that automatically emptys the vacuum's dust bin, fills its water tank, and cleans and dry its mop pads.

The smart robot makes use of LIDAR and structured lighting to map out floor plans and detect obstacles. It can navigate more efficiently than its top competitors. It also has a camera mounted on the front for real-time hazard detection but this was not reliable in our tests and was often confused by power cords or other obstructions.

The vacuum cleaner has the capacity to suction up to 7,000 Pascals which is more than enough to complete the task. It also comes with an option known as "Intelligent Dirt Detection", that regulates the vacuum's power and adjusts the frequency of cleaning for various areas of the house depending on how dirty the areas are.

For larger houses, it's worth opting for models with spot or zone cleaning modes that allow you to instruct the robot to clean a particular area of your house via the app or via voice commands. If you have furniture, a stair mode is also useful. For busy families, a recharge function and resume feature that permits your robot auto vacuum and mop to continue from where it left off can be very beneficial.

5. iRobot Roomba RX3

The RX3 is a cleaner with more intelligence than you would imagine from its price. It is a good vacuum cleaner, picking up 55% debris in our tests. (It was only second to the Roomba Q5 Pro). It also mopses using one pad and a reciprocating motion that is more efficient than most of the robot mop cleaners that we've examined. And it's highly self-sufficient with a fully-featured app as well as a self-emptying, washable base.

The well-designed iRobot app guides you through an initial mapping session that collects data about your floorplan and any "no-go" areas you set on the map. You can use it to create cleaning schedules, set up a spot clean or to sort out your rooms with the most dirt for better performance. The app also grants access to a host of features, such as seasonal suggestions, custom maps and advanced settings for your cleaning.

Its shape is more rectangular than most other robot vacuums, which means it can get to corners and underneath furniture more easily. It has a powerful 8000 Pascal suction as well as intelligent combs to remove pet hair. You can also set up a spot-clean that thoroughly cleans a specific area.

The Miele Scout RX3 Home Vision HD offers a sleeker more affordable alternative to iRobot Roomba. It's got a more attractive design, akin to Dolce & Gabbana. The twin cameras are designed like adorable eyes. It's good at vacuuming, but is more prone to getting caught on low thresholds and is more noisy than the other top robotic vacuums we've tested. It also comes with an app that is less intuitive and a small base station that can't double as a bin to empty.
