For one, the Q5's navigation doesn't have AI-powered obstacle avoidance and is therefore prone to become entangled in shoes and socks, and is unable to navigate tight spaces very well in our tests. Also, it doesn't have cameras that let it see the corners of an area.

It's also the only robot vacuum/mop that scored a perfect 10 out of 10 in our testing. This is thanks to the combination of high-tech sensors, including a structured lighting system, a camera and multiple lasers. The X40 Ultra is also the only robot we tested that can completely self-refill and empty its base station, and boasts an its own self-cleaning mop pads.

The X40 is, like the other iRobot products, is easy to use. It has a simple mobile application interface, and it integrates with Amazon Alexa and Apple HomeKit. The only drawback is that it's loud that could be an issue if you use it in the morning before work, or at night when you try to sleep.

It's also a bit expensive, but not as much as the Ecovacs S8 MaxV Ultra or Roborock S8 Omni, which are both equally powerful and more attractive. If you're willing with a bit more noise and some extra cost it's a capable two-in-one that should please almost everyone.

iRobot L20 Ultra

And it's highly self-sufficient with a fully-featured app as well as an auto-emptying, washable base.

The well-designed iRobot application guides you through an initial mapping run that gathers information about your floorplan and any "no-go" areas you set on the map. It can be used to design cleaning schedules, or to set up a spot-clean. You can also use it to prioritize your dirtiest areas for better performance. The app has a range of options, including seasonal suggestions, customized mapping, and advanced cleaning settings.
