The Q5 and Q7 Max Series both scored excellently in our tests on floors that were bare, and they are particularly adept in cleaning hair from dogs. However, they have a few flaws that keep them from being our top pick. One of the Q5's shortcomings is that its navigation system does not have AI-powered obstacles avoidance. It's therefore prone to become stuck on shoes and socks and couldn't navigate rooms with lots of people efficiently during our tests. It also doesn't have a camera to see around corners.

It's still a great deal, especially if your office or home has a lot of unfinished floors and you're looking to save money. Plus, it's very quiet and can work while you're at work or school. It's not equipped with the edge-to-edge floor vacuuming offered in the more expensive iRobot Roomba X30. And it's less effective at mopping, relying on disposable wet wipes, which don't stick on well and aren't able to handle dried-on debris. The Q5 comes with a self-emptying cradle that can be emptied by itself. And, if you need to, you can switch the mopping pad to dry ones in just a few minutes.

2. IRobot Roomba X30

The iRobot Roomba X30 packs impressive mopping and vacuuming capabilities into a sleek, compact package. Its smart cleaning maps and nimble navigation make it easy to clean, and efficient in tackling larger particles such as pet hair. It also features a self-emptying dustbin as well as powerful suction, and support for virtual boundaries. It's the best robotic mop and vacuum robot vacuum for carpets, but it's not as effective as some rivals in deep cleaning.

This top-performing mop and vacuum combination uses advanced sensor technology to dodge obstacles and pet waste, and it also learns the layout of your home over time to provide more efficient cleaning. The app lets you set up zones and modify the cleaning schedule. Its battery life is average when compared to similar models.

You can tell the X30 Ultra to remove its mops and extend them when in a carpeted area which prevents cross-contamination. The flex arm can be used to reach under low-lying furnishings and along baseboards. 3. IRobot Roomba X40

With a sleek, circular design that looks like a regular Roomba than the competitors' compact models This robot vacuum and mop combo is one of the most attractive designs in our tests. The latest model from iRobot is also the most intelligent. It comes with advanced features, like Enhanced Dirt Detection and future compatibility (another company’s robot that can wash mop pads on its own).

It's also the sole robot vacuum/mop to score an absolute 10 out of 10 in our testing. This is due to the combination of high-tech sensors, including a structured light system, camera, and a variety of lasers. The X40 Ultra is also the only robot hoover in our tests that can completely autonomously refill and empty its base station and it has an industry-leading 12,000Pa suction and self-cleaning mop pads.

Like other iRobot models as well, the X40 is user-friendly, with a simple mobile app interface and integration with Amazon Alexa, Apple HomeKit and Google Assistant. The only real drawback is that it's a noisy unit that could be an issue if you use it in the morning prior to work, or at night when you try to sleep.

It's also a bit expensive but not as much as the Ecovacs MaxV Ultra or the Roborock S8 Omni, which are equally capable and better looking. If you're willing to live with a little more noise and some extra cost it's a efficient two-in-one device that should please almost everyone.

iRobot L20 Ultra

The L20 Ultra is the top-of-the best robot vacuum and mop. It has a range of features that are advanced and will make you forget about your chores. The L20 Ultra is a hands-free cleaning device, similar to Ecovacs top-of-the-line X2 Omni or Roborock's S8 Pro Ultra. It has a multifunction dock which automatically emptys the bin of the vacuum and fills up the water tank, and washes and dries mop pads.

The smart robot employs the combination of LIDAR and structured light to draw out floor plans and spot obstacles, making it more efficient than its top competitors. It also comes with a front-mounted camera that can detect hazards in real-time, though this wasn't foolproof in our tests and could be confused with power cords or obstructions.

The vacuum cleaner comes with the capacity to suction up to 7,000 Pascals which is more than enough to do the job. It also comes with an option called "Intelligent Dirt Detection", that regulates the vacuum's power and adjusts cleaning frequency for various areas of the house based on how dirty those areas are.

For bigger homes it's worth looking for one with zone or spot cleaning modes that let you tell the robot to clean one particular area of your home using the app or voice controls. If you have a lot of furniture, a stair mode is also a good option. For busy families, a recharge feature and resume feature that allows your robot vacuum to resume where it left off can be extremely useful.

5. iRobot Roomba RX3

The RX3 is a cleaner with more intelligence than you'd expect from its price tag. It does a stellar job cleaning, removing 55% of debris in our tests (it was second only to the Roomba Q5 Pro). It also mopses with one pad, which uses an oscillating motion that cleans better than most of the other robot mop (ai-db.science) cleaners we've tested. And it's highly self-sufficient with a full-featured application and an auto-emptying, washable base.

The iRobot app is designed to help you navigate an exercise in mapping which collects information about your floorplan and any "no go" areas that you've marked on the map. You can use it to make cleaning schedules, plan an area for cleaning or to sort out your rooms with the most dirt to improve performance. The app offers a variety of options, including seasonal suggestions, custom mapping, and advanced cleaning settings.

It can also reach corners and under furniture better because its shape is more rectangular. It also has strong 8,000 Pascal suction and combs that are intelligent for pet hair. You can also set up a spot-clean which will thoroughly clean the area.

The Miele Scout RX3 Home Vision HD is a sleeker and cheaper alternative to the iRobot Roomba. It's got a more attractive style, much like Dolce & Gabbana. The twin cameras are shaped like cute little eyes. It's good at vacuuming, but is more prone to be caught by low thresholds and is louder than the other top robotic vacuums we've tested. It also has a less intuitive app and a small base station that isn't able to double as an emptying bin.
